Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Doubts Slowly Sprout

After finishing my meal, with my thoughts still swirling, I stood up, took a deep breath, and tried to calm myself down, trying not to reveal any weakness because I knew... if he was my fiancé, he must be very familiar with my previous client... and the more familiar he was, the harder it would be to act as if nothing had happened...

Stepping into the living room, everything around me seemed to slow down. Every hour, every step I took echoed clearly in my head. I sat down on a chair, my eyes unconsciously glancing around the room. Everything was so quiet I could hear my own breathing.

Then… Wu Shen appeared. He stopped, his gaze briefly fixed on me, scrutinizing me from head to toe as if checking me out. I instinctively tensed up under his gaze, wondering if I'd given myself away, when… He reached out and gently wiped away the crumb of cake from my lip. I stiffened slightly, my hands still trembling as I clasped them together, my shoulders tensing. But he didn't stop. He raised his hand and gently licked the cake, his gaze at me deep and intense, like he was looking at prey, leaving me speechless.

Then, Wu Shen's voice became low, slow, and slightly teasing:

"Ah… this cake is indeed very sweet… don't you think so, A Xiang?"

My mouth dropped open, my heart skipped a beat. My face flushed, I trembled, and stammered:

"Wu Shen… what… what are you doing?"

He smirked, his voice teasing:

"Hmm… are you shy, A Xiang?"

I froze, trying to keep my voice normal, but my heart raced, my hands still clasped together in tension:

"No… no… don't talk nonsense!"

Wu Shen paused, his deep gaze glancing at my slightly flushed ears. He thought to himself: "She… seems really a little off today… isn't she?"

Outwardly, he only smiled, tilting his head slightly, looking at me intently, slowly.

I felt like I was about to explode from this suffocating feeling; every gesture of his made me tense. I didn't dare look him in the eye. I wanted to avert my gaze, to step back, but my feet felt glued to the floor.

He spoke in a low, slow voice, each word etched into my ears:

"Okay, A Xiang… you don't mind, do you?"

I was flustered, not expecting Wu Shen to give in, but I didn't say anything, just sat still, not daring to look him in the eye.

He paused slightly, his gaze still fixed on me, then leaned closer to my ear, his voice warm and deep:

"A Xiang… do you know that this appearance of yours… somehow makes me feel so different from the you before… like a different person?"

I was startled by Wu Shen's words, my eyes momentarily stunned, then confused, my heart pounding as if it would explode. He subtly sensed something was wrong and asked anxiously,

"Yun Xiang… what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Before he could finish his sentence, he saw my face lose its composure, a mixture of confusion and fear… His raised hand froze, and although I tried to suppress my trembling, and tried to avoid Wu Shen's gaze, I couldn't keep myself calm and trembled slightly.

I turned my face away from his eyes, my voice stammering,

"You… what are you saying… I… I don't understand."

Just as I was about to turn away, I was suddenly pulled back. My body felt light… Looking up, I saw that Wu Shen was lifting me up, gently, but his eyes were still cold and somewhat stern…

I was both surprised and embarrassed, my voice strained,

"Wu Shen… what… what are you doing? Let… let me go!"

His voice was cold but powerful, making me freeze my struggling movements:

"Behave yourself, A Xiang. If you continue like this… I don't know what I'll do to you…"

I froze, met with his serious yet cold gaze. I felt both fear and embarrassment, but I could only lie still… My heart pounded, each beat following Wu Shen's footsteps as he led me upstairs.

Behind us, a figure silently observed. Their eyes were deep, mysterious, and tinged with malice… difficult to decipher.
