Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: First Training

However—

Despite everything he'd said, Yozora didn't actually have the Multiscale Ability in his hands.

He knew that Professor Oak had an exceptionally powerful Dragonite, one that did indeed possess Multiscale.

But…

According to the system's rules, he had to defeat that Dragonite before he could obtain Multiscale.

That was utterly insane.

With the terrifying strength of that Dragonite, even if it just stood still, Beedrill would have no way of breaking through its defenses at his current level…

"Ding! Congratulations to the Host for officially becoming a Trainer! To promote your growth, your first Achievement Quest—'Rookie Debut'—is now issued!"

"Quest Requirements: Obtain six Pokémon, and at least one Gym Badge!"

"Quest Reward: One additional Ability slot for your Pokémon!"

As Yozora recalled past information, a cascade of system messages suddenly rang through his mind.

He froze—then burst into joy.

So the limit wasn't just three Ability slots after all!

Tsk tsk… This system really is absurdly powerful, downright terrifying!

"Wurrr…"

The two Pokémon finally met.

Charmander never expected Yozora to have such a powerful partner. For a moment, admiration welled up in its little heart.

It stared wide-eyed, gazing at Beedrill like a devoted fanboy, brimming with longing.

Yozora rubbed Charmander's head and encouraged him softly:"Don't worry, Charmander. As long as you work hard, you can become just as strong as Beedrill one day."

"Raargh!"

Charmander nodded firmly and let out a spirited cry, burning with fighting spirit.

Its eyes darted around the area, clearly searching for an opponent—eager for a proper battle.

Even it instinctively knew: the only path to growth was through constant battle.

"Good fighting spirit. Come on—let's go find some wild Pokémon!"

Yozora nodded with approval, then set out with Beedrill and Charmander at his side.

The wilds were full of Pokémon.

In less than ten minutes, Yozora spotted one feeding in the grass ahead.

Pokémon: Pidgey

Type: Normal + Flying

Level: Rookie

Potential: Senior

"…So the first opponent's a Pidgey, huh?"

Yozora raised his hand and commanded, "Go, Charmander! Use Ember!"

At his order, Charmander bounded forward two steps, gathered strength, then spat out a small burst of flame aimed straight for Pidgey's back.

But the little bird was alert. Its wings flapped hard as it soared into the sky—nimbly dodging the Ember.

"Pidgey~!"

Gentle by nature, the Pidgey showed no intent of revenge. After letting out a soft cry, it quickly flew away.

Charmander froze in disbelief.

"…Interesting. So the problem's revealed this fast."

Yozora tapped his chin and said, "Charmander, from now on, we'll train your Ember until you can fire it instantly."

That was his way of training—identify problems in battle, then correct them with targeted practice.

And how to find problems?

Through real combat!

"Wurrr!" Charmander nodded hard.

It understood.

The failure just now was because Ember had a delay.

If it could fire instantly, it might have hit that bird.

Because of its own weakness, its Trainer lost the chance to catch it.

That must never happen again!

As a Rookie Level Pokémon, Charmander's potential was vast.

Something like Ember was no obstacle.

In less than half a day, it had already mastered instant-casting the move.

Not only that—

It could even fire three Embers in rapid succession!

Only once Yozora had prepared a hearty lunch did he call his exhausted Charmander to a stop.

After all, Charmander was still at the beginner stage. Its stamina was nothing like higher-level Pokémon. For it to endure training to this extent right from the start was already proof of its strong willpower.

As both a Trainer and an accomplished researcher and breeder, Yozora's meals weren't just delicious—they were nutritionally complete.

He had no choice.

If his only goal were to become a top-class Trainer, that might have been enough.

But since he aimed to be the world's strongest, this was his baseline.

Having lived two lives, Yozora had known this since childhood, which was why he poured endless effort and sweat into becoming an outstanding breeder.

"Wurrr!" After lunch, Charmander quickly regained its energy and cried out joyfully.

Beedrill, meanwhile, was as silent as always.

Yozora had long grown used to this. He didn't mind in the slightest.

He believed in latent power.

Beedrill had already accumulated immense experience. All it needed was one fierce battle to ignite its potential and break into a higher realm.

"Rustle, rustle…"

A faint sound rustled through the grass. Drawn by the scent of food, a wild Rattata had scurried over.

Charmander reacted instantly, leaping forward and glaring sharply at the little rat. Under its fierce stare, Rattata dared not advance a single step.

"Excellent, Charmander. Now's your chance to show the results of training—use Ember!"

This was the perfect sparring opportunity. Yozora issued the command without hesitation.

"Raaagh!"

Charmander roared, and this time—instantly unleashed three Embers in succession!

Morning's training had clearly paid off.

The flames shot fast and true, streaking straight toward Rattata.

The little rodent froze, too shocked to react.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

The Embers struck in rapid succession, bursting across its body.

With a pitiful cry, Rattata collapsed amid rising smoke, unconscious.

"Raaagh!"

After defeating Squirtle before, Charmander had now claimed another victory.

This time, it was a win born from special training—instantly boosting its confidence. Excitement surged through it as it let out a triumphant roar.

"Excellent work, Charmander." Yozora praised without reservation.

As for Rattata, after a long hesitation, he chose not to capture it.

Although the achievement quest was hanging over him, Yozora simply wasn't interested in Rattata. So he let it go.

Sure enough, the little rodent soon regained consciousness and scurried away.

Pokémon were different from humans. Their natural healing was extraordinary—most minor injuries could be shrugged off in moments.

Of course, conditions like burns or poison couldn't be self-healed. That was when they'd need a human's help.
