Professor Oak did not feel jealous of Yozora. On the contrary, his admiration for the boy grew stronger.
He was getting older, after all.
Besides, he had already achieved outstanding accomplishments in his lifetime—why would he be jealous of the younger generation? The future would always belong to the young!
Professor Oak understood this well. Moreover, Yozora had been working at the lab since childhood; in a sense, he could be considered half a student of his own.
Thus, whether in training or academia, the greater Yozora's achievements, the more glory Oak himself would feel.
And yet…
At this moment, he truly couldn't bear to part with this dependable assistant.
"That kid Yozora… not only knowledgeable, but he also knows how to live. He's an excellent cook too…" Oak sighed inwardly.
Now, the boy was grown, about to set off on his journey. Which meant Oak would once again be forced to rely on those dreadful instant noodles!
"Yozora, among the four youngsters in Pallet Town, you're the most reliable. I hope you work hard and bring honor to our town!"
Professor Oak handed him a Pokédex along with six brand-new Poké Balls, then patted him on the shoulder—his final farewell.
Standing to the side, Gary Oak watched and snorted coldly.
The most reliable?
Grandpa, you must be losing it! Among the four of us, clearly I'm the one with the most potential!
Normally, Gary would have blurted this out on the spot.
But unfortunately, he had just suffered defeat—and not just any loss, but a crushing one despite a type advantage…
It stung his pride so badly he couldn't even speak.
"Thank you, Professor. I'll definitely do my best to bring honor to you and to Pallet Town."
"Gary, I'll be heading out first, then."
After saying his farewells to both Professor Oak and Gary, Yozora departed with Charmander by his side, stepping onto his journey.
From a hilltop on the outskirts, Yozora turned back to see Pallet Town growing smaller and smaller in the distance.
As a Pokémon Trainer, there were three eternal themes: training, battling, and capturing.
Training built the foundation—accumulated strength, waiting to erupt.
But battles were the heart of it all. Only through fierce combat could a Pokémon's potential be fully awakened.
"Come out, Beedrill. You've got a new partner now!" Yozora released his very first companion.
With its sharp, focused eyes, sleek form, and pair of gleaming lances, every part of its body radiated strength.
[Pokémon]: Beedrill
[Type]: Bug + Poison
[First Ability]: Sniper (Critical hits deal increased damage)
[Second Ability]: Huge Power (Doubles physical attack power)
[Third Ability]: None
[Level]: Peak Elite
[Potential]: Champion
[Moves]: Twinneedle, Fury Attack, Focus Energy, Poison Sting, Agility, Substitute, Double Team
[Description]: A Beedrill with terrifying potential. Its strength far exceeds what its level suggests. Yet a Beedrill is still a Beedrill—its fragile assassin's frame can never withstand much damage. Best used at decisive moments.
Some Pokémon seemed ordinary, yet became powerful thanks to an ability—for example, Huge Power Azumarill.
Others were naturally strong, yet became mediocre because of an ability—for example, Slaking with Truant.
This was the fundamental law of the world—destiny.
But Yozora had the power to change destiny itself. He could grant his Pokémon a second ability… even a third.
Ever since his system activated, all of Yozora's Pokémon gained two ability slots.
And once his bond with a Pokémon reached maximum intimacy, that Pokémon would unlock a third slot.
His first partner, Beedrill, now possessed all three.
But once an ability was chosen, it could never be changed. Yozora had to choose carefully.
To this day, Beedrill's third slot remained empty.
There was no such thing as the single "strongest" ability—only the ability that best matched the Pokémon.
Beedrill and Huge Power, for instance, were a perfect fit.
Already boasting impressive physical strength, Beedrill's power had skyrocketed once its attacks were doubled, pushing its combat potential to terrifying levels.
In fact, Beedrill's original potential had only been Gym Leader level. But after gaining Huge Power, it leapt straight to Champion level!
The ability was strong, yes—but the true miracle lay in how well it suited Beedrill.
Had he given Huge Power to Charmander, it might have helped somewhat, but nothing near the same earth-shattering effect.
As for Beedrill's third ability, Yozora had been giving it much thought.
If he wanted even more raw strength, abilities like Pure Power, Adaptability, Swarm, or Technician would all be excellent choices.
But…
Yozora believed Beedrill's strength was already more than enough. Even the system itself had evaluated it as: "Possesses strength surpassing its level."
A rare and lofty judgment.
Which meant—
Even though Beedrill was only at the peak of Elite level, its power already rivaled the Elite Four.
"Strength is fine. Speed is fine too—that's another of Beedrill's specialties, especially with its mastery of Agility…"
In Yozora's view, as a souped-up assassin, Beedrill lacked neither power nor speed.
What it lacked was endurance and resilience.
In short—its body was just too frail.
Thus, for Beedrill's third ability, Yozora leaned toward boosting its durability.
The most ideal choice? Multiscale.
Multiscale was Dragonite's Hidden Ability—one possessed only by the rarest, most gifted individuals of the species.
[Multiscale]: When at full health, reduces damage taken.
Essentially, it was like a protective shield. As long as that shield remained unbroken, the user would not be harmed, drastically improving survivability.
And with Beedrill's sheer offensive might, surviving even one extra turn would make its destructive potential immeasurable!
