Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6

Xavier.

She hesitated before getting into the car, "just get in, I don't bite." I said. I could see how nervous she was as she got in. The car was too awkwardly silent, so I decided to lighten the atmosphere. I glanced t her as she watched her Instagram reels, "seems you really like Instagram, yeah?" she quickly covered up her screen for me to stop peaking. "it's rude to intrude in other people's privacy sir." She turned facing the window. Maybe she was trying to avoid eye contact. "Are you calling me nosy Miss Reed?" I heightened my voice a little to make it seem as if I was offended. "No sir that's not what I meant." She cut in quickly. I smiled, but it wasn't so obvious. "A stalker who wants privacy… and I thought I've seen it all." I said trying to tease her more. "I'm not a stalker." She sat up trying to defend herself. It was cute. For some reason, I was enjoying teasing her. Her reaction to each statement made me laugh inside.

"But my Instagram picture you like says otherwise." I smirked a little, I wasn't sure if she noticed because it was a bit obvious. "That was a mistake, I wasn't concentrating," she said as she sank into the car seat and folding her arms across her chest. I looked at her from the corner of my eye and smiled. The car was filled with silence again. She took out her phone again to watch some videos, so I thought it would be nice to continue teasing her. "That's not a surprise," I said reacting to the video she was watching. It was a video about a couple who broke up because the girl cheated on her boyfriend. "Sorry?" she turned to me. "The video, it's never really shocking news when something like happens."

"Why is that sir?" she asked. "Well, it obvious that all girls are just in it for the money." I was surprised she didn't make any reaction to the statement. "It can't be all girls," she said. She still wasn't giving off any funny reaction. "Nope, it definitely all girls. I mean no offense, but you all are just gold diggers, mining off every man who throws money at you. I'm pretty sure if you had your chances with me, you'd take it because of my money." I said jokingly. I glanced at her to see how she was reacting to what I said. "I'm not a gold digger." Her voice was a little heightened but firm. "I'm not saying that you are, I'm just saying that you would if you got the chance." I was expecting her to play a defence but instead she only scoffed and kept quiet. "Maybe she didn't take as a joke," I thought to myself. Few seconds later, she asked me to stop the car. I could see the tears clouding her eyes, and her voice began to break. "What?" I looked but I was still driving.

"I said stop the car." Her voice was firm. I was surprised at how she was reacting; I only said it to tease her. "you're overreacting." I was still driving. I thought I could calm her down, but she just flared up even more. "Overreacting? You don't get to insult me and tell me how I should feel about it. You just called me a gold digger, and you expect me to be calm. You don't even know me." I saw tears roll down her eyes and my chest tightened. I knew what I said had hurt her badly. I pulled the car to the side of the road and watched her pack up her things. A part of me wanted to hold her back and apologies but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. "Just because you're you have money doesn't make you a catch, some people actually look at personality rather than finances. And you should get to know someone before you judge them," she said before she opened the door and left. I watched her walk home in the cold home. I squeezed the steering tight. I hated that I hurt her, but I was pissed that I cared. Someone who got on my nerves a lot since we met, got me so worried about her. "But why do I feel this way," I thought to myself. I drove home to convince myself that I didn't care but the truth still remained deep in my mind.

I got home to meet Bianca waiting for me. She was in her night gown, drinking a bottle of wine in the living room. "Hey babe, you're home late." She got up to hug me. "I wanted us to have dinner, but I got tired of waiting and ate. Your food is still on the dinning though."

"I'm not hungry Bianca," I said as I sat down beside her on the couch. "Okay." She took a sip out of the wine in her glass and went straight into her phone. I sat in silence for a minute thinking about what Lilian said last. Bianca glanced at me, "what wrong babe?" she came closer and rubbed my back. "Nothing, I just had a rough day." I took off my suit jacket and loosened my tie. "Well do you want to talk about it," she asked. "Nahh… it's not that serious." I got up to go take a shower, but I stopped for a minute, "hey babe, would you have dated me if I was broke?" she looked at me with confusion, "no offense babe, but you wouldn't date yourself if you were broke." she chuckled and took another sip from the glass. "What's that supposed to mean?" I folded my arms across my chest and gave her a stern look. "What I mean is, no one wants an unsuccessful boyfriend." She put the glass down, got up and walked to me. "I think you've had a very long day, and you must be tired. Why not just forget about it and go take a nice cool bath? I'll prep your bathe water, just the way you like it," she said as she rubbed my shoulders. She left to go upstairs.

I just couldn't stop thinking about Lilian, I thought about calling her but then I decided not to. "She's probably going to be over it by tomorrow," I thought to myself. I heard Bianca shout my name from the room, so I left to meet her. "Hey babe, we should go to the beach tomorrow," she said smiling. I figured I could use a distraction to get my mind off Lilian, so I agreed. "The beach sounds like a good idea," I said as I took off my shirt to have my bath. "Baby, I never have a bad idea," she smiled and pecked me before dragging me into the bathroom.
