Xavier.
It was like she came out of nowhere; I was so furious when this waiter just spilled hot tea all over my shirt. I was waiting for some clients, so we could discuss some business deals. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry sir," she said trying to wipe it off with her napkin. I began to crash out, "what the hell? Can't you watch where you're going or are you blind?" she didn't respond, I guess she wasn't listening. "Oh, so you're deaf as well." She still didn't respond. I got irritated and pushed her off me. Just then a man came to the scene asking what was going on. I guessed he was the manager, so I directed the anger to him. "This incompetent waiter just spilled tea all over me. How am I supposed to attend my meeting looking like this? Is this the kind of staff you employ around here?" "I'm really sorry sir," the waiter said in a very low tone. I looked at her with a disgusted face, "How's an apology going to fix my shirt?" but before I could finish my statement the manager cut in. "I'm sorry sir, it won't happen again, because she's now fired." I was shocked by the manager's judgement. But I didn't care, I had no business with the manager or the waiter, so I left as my meeting had to be cancelled because of the incident. On my way home, I got a call from Bianca, my girlfriend. "Hey babe, how did your meeting go?" she asked. "I had to cancel it because some silly waiter spilled tea all over my shirt." I responded. "Oh, sorry about that dear, but anyway babe, I saw this nice dress at the mall earlier today and I was hoping you'd get it for me. It's just two thousand dollars." She said playfully. "Bianca, you're a fashion designer, why not just make your own?" I asked. "Well yes, I'm a fashion designer, that doesn't mean I won't wear other brands. And besides it's not like you couldn't afford it." She said sounding pissed. I wasn't in the mood for her drama today, so I asked her to send picture, so I'll pick it up for her tomorrow. "Oh my God babe, thank you so much. That's why I love you." She said giggling and blowing kisses. "Yeah, me too. Bye." I said then hung up the phone. Soon, another call came in from Mabel my secretary. "What is it, Mabel? I'm on the road." I wasn't in the mood for calls that evening so I said that hoping she would call back later. But she said, "I'm sorry to disturb you but I just got a resignation letter from the sales manager with effect from tomorrow." "Well, put out an application for the position online and schedule an interview for 10 am tomorrow." I said then hung up the phone. I got home quite late, so I just took a bath and went to bed.
I got to work a bit late the next morning, Mabel was at the entrance of the of the elevator, waiting for me. "Good morning, sir. Here is the list of applicants for the interview by ten." She said as she handed me a sheet of paper. "Alright, let them know the interview will be held in board room 3." I said as we got into the elevator. "Are they all present," I asked in the elevator. "Not yet sir only one person is yet to come, a Lilian Reed." "Cancel out the name." I said adjusting the knot of my tie. "But sir the interview doesn't start till ten minutes." She quickly cut in. "As far as I'm concerned, she's already late. So, cancel out her name." I gave her a cold stare hinting her to stop questioning my authority. "Alright sir." Then she cancelled the name out. I got to my office only to realise that I forgot an important document in my car, so I asked Mabel to go get it. While she went to get the file, I went to board room 3 to get the interview started. I signalled the guard at the front of the door to call in the applicants one by one. I was about leaving after the interview was done when a lady barged into the room saying she's here for the interview. "You're late, the interview is over. So, leave" I said gathering the files in front of me. "I'm sorry sir, I had come about ten minutes ago but there was a situation. That's why I'm late. Please just give a chance." She said in a pleading tone. "That doesn't change a thing" I said looking up. Then I realised that I recognised her from somewhere. She was the waiter that spilled tea on my shirt last night. "Aren't you the clumsy waiter from the restaurant last night?" I said rising to my feet. She took a step back and bowed her head in embarrassment. "Do you think I'd employ you?" I asked giving her a cold look. I walked out of the board room and asked the guard outside for Mabel. "Mabel was taken to the hospital sir; she was involved in an accident. She was hit by a taxi in the driveway and broke her leg." He said. "Who's responsible?" I asked. "We weren't able to identify the driver from the security footage, but we saw that lady get down from the taxi." He said, pointing to the lady standing at the door post of board room 3. I was furious. I walked back briskly to the board room; she stepped back as she saw me coming in. "It's not even half of the day yet and you're getting on my nerves." I gave her a cold stare. I then explained to her who the woman in the driveway was and offered her a job to be my temporary secretary to pay for Mabel's hospital bills since she partly caused the accident. She wasn't too sure about the offer, so I gave her my business card and time for her to think about the offer. I also assured her that whether she took the job or not, she's going to somehow pay for those bills, and then she left.
