Everett had almost forgotten the most gruelling part of the whole scenario and that was finding a way to seal the echo which had taken over the poor girl whose brother was on the stone floor of the grove.
He searched his memory for any mentions of sealing spells within the book but had only come to a single answer , it was an impossible one at the moment unless...
'Maybe he can be of use somehow', he had been pondering about the sight he had witnessed right before swooping into the enclave. It had been nagging at him for a while now , why would a chaos resonant like him try to connect with a harmonic fragment . 'What if he hasn't deciphered his affinity yet!?' , he almost jumped at the possibility that appeared before him.
The reason the sealing spells would be impossible for him to do was because he had completely exhausted his body previously during the regulators's attack by performing the illusion spell ,'Spho' , to protect the princess of the empire.
But with the unconscious young man present then maybe , just maybe he could channel enough nexus energy to cast that barrier some of the grass he just collected.
"Alright." , he decided to go through with it , again he almost let the corrupted echo's presence slip by him. It was only when he looked and saw Elara , arms crossed , waiting patiently, her lips slightly rose to make up a smile , like she had been waiting for him to utter those specific words.
Everett walked toward Kaelen , who was still unconscious , suddenly ot felt like the entire area surrounding the three had instantly lost sound , but that wasn't the case , it had merely lost the mushroom light provided by the flora. Such made his heart beat fast , the crunching sound of the shrubbery shifting to the quiet hums of the nightly wind , it set the perfect scene for a sealing spell , such were his thoughts.
"Wake up , if you want to save your sister and settle the debt you have with the Nexus , then you need to help me in exchange." , he hadn't expected it to work knowing the usual laziness of nobles he had read in the novel.
But it did.
"Before I agree , tell me something?", though he had just woken up , he went straight to the point , that much was perfect for Everett as he was one who hated run arounds .
"Hm?" , although the character he was looking at with caution had only appeared once in volume three of Axis On Silver , he knew that that there was some foreshadowing about him potentially becoming an antagonist for the protagonist , Frian.
"What will you do to my sister if I decide to help you?".
'Ah! , he had found a weakness to exploit.' , he pretended to think deeply about the question then gave his answer to Kaelen.
"I'm going to free her from that echo's hold with your help and then we can all return to our families without any problems." , he answered.
Kaelen knit his brows together , his face seamed to scream ,'Can I trust this guy?' . Noticing his expression , Everett reassured him ,"I won't turn her in to the regulators if that's what you're worried about . And I also hope that you will spare some of the details on what happened here in your report to the Duke.
He nodded .
"Right , I assume that you can channel nexus energy into another object?" , Everett was pretty sure of this already considering the mountain of cups on the stone platform above them. But he needed to make sure that the information he knew got received by young Kaelen.
"You're a resonant aren't you?" , he asked with a gentle tone .
He nodded once more while carefully observing the black haired figure before him ; to Kaelen it was an astonishing sight , never in his life had he ever seen hair that black , almost like an endless void.
"Which thread can you weave?".
This time Kaelen responded with a simple ,"No. I can't weave any thread , I'm still yet to know which one I resonate with."
Mulling over the information , it was just as he had suspected . "Tell me , why would a potential discord weaver try to resonate with a harmonic fragment?".
"Ah...." , Kaelen was taken aback , he tried to respond but no words came out . He then locked eyes with Everett and as if reaching an agreement both nodded and walked past the corrupted echo to the bucket he had left.
It wasn't surprising to Everett to see that she hadn't moved an inch and just retained the same position while listening to their conversation. Everett motioned Kaelen to spread half of the grass in a half-circle surrounding Elara.
Moments later he grabbed Kaelen's shoulder , using him as a catalyst to channel nexus energy into mystical herbs. Surges of brilliant light flowed rhythmically from the two , settling itself in the core of the grass.
It was done .
Sure the echo was around terror rank but even she couldn't do anything against nexus energy in it's purest . It was only the type of knowledge a privi reader of Axis On Silver knew.
"It's done?", hearing skepticallity of Kaelen's voice he felt annoyed and was also a little surprised that a corrupted echo on par with the protagonist at full power around the middle volumes was easily trapped like this.
That was also a problem .
He had only managed to trap the corrupted echo and subdue part of it's will on Lyra's body. It would now be up to her to fight the hold it still had on her. That much he had told Kaelen , so as soon as the instructions he had gotten from Everett were done he used up whatever energy he had had left to try to use his partial synchronization to reach his beloved twin sister .
However it held no effect.
"Ho ho! , I see that you are in a bind." , a voice resounded throughout the grove , it was a soft voice resembling that of a doting grandfather. And it sounded exactly as it looked ; from the shadows came a light , it was an old man with a red robe and brown clothes within .
Upon looking at him Everett instantly knew of the figure he had read about during the first chapter of Axis On Silver , "Merlin!?...".
"It seems that you have heard of me!" , then almost instantly the old man began to lose the wrinkles on his face , turning into a young man in his late teens. "Nonetheless , I have to save this girl now. If you'll excuse me." , Merlin walked past the frozen Kaelen and Everett who had his mouth wide open. He proceeded to manipulate the energies surrounding them forming a miniature sea of Nexus energy , it was something more powerful than nexus energy , he placed it on Elara who struggled but eventually gave in .
The energy of the corrupted echo purified and fell outside of the semi-circle leaving a single feather and a black mirror like shard. It was a fragment , he had never read about a corrupted echo leaving behind a fragment , items it could but fragments were impossible.
Soon after Lyra woke up , filled with confusion she paced back and forth in the massive grove of the enclave. Merlin sat with the two boys , telling them stories of his time with King Arthur and the Knights Of Camelot in their journey to unify Albion.
Admist the tale , Merlin paused , his tone turned serious as he addressed Kaelen ,"Kaelen , the fragment of Elmhaven is going to merge with you in a few moments."
"Uh–" , he was cut off as the obsidian flew straight for his chest hitting him mercilessly at the core of his body. Minutes passed without him uttering a single word , "Man , that hurt!". Everett started to laugh uncontrollably , it was the first time he had felt happy since arriving in this world.
Although that smile dissipated as soon as Merlin told him that he was next . He saw countless mirages of the fragment before figuring out which one was coming for him. That was when he realized , the fragment wasn't any one of them , Merlin threw a coin toward Everett , hitting him straight on the forehead.
As he looked at it he could feel that there was something strange about the golden coin he had received from the legendary wizard. It looked like the normal ancient currency used in this world but if felt like something else , from the power it was giving off , it was definitely a fragment.
"That is the [Shard Of Axerin] , a fragment I picked from an asteroid that almost destroyed the Four Empires." , he said , observed young Everett and continued ,"It seems that you can weave the thread of Oasis. Interesting , and you also have the ability to cast illusions , quite interesting indeed."
"Mhm.... , I think you're right about the second part , during the attack I told you about I was able to create a fake version of myself to ward off the regulators after me and Mirin." , he casually told the wizard whilst leaving out some details.
And then Merlin rose from his seat , acknowledging what he had just heard. He walked over to the pacing Lyra , who was flustered as he placed his palm on her shoulder . Soon his body began to disappear , like how the corrupted echo of elmhaven had turned into a fragment , Merlin's body turned into pure energy , revealing a transparent shard similar to glass but more powerful , and it assimilating with her.
With that , Everett stood up as well and walked out of the enclave leaving the twins by themselves.
