Chapter 7 – The Last Spark
The subway was collapsing. Dust rained from the ceiling. Red light and white light clashed, shaking the tunnel like a heartbeat about to explode.
Kairo staggered, blood dripping from his shoulder. His blade of white flame flickered weakly. Across from him, Aiden stood tall, red fire blazing stronger than ever.
"You see it now," Aiden said, voice echoing. "The truth eats at you. You left me that night. That's why I gave myself to the shadows."
Kairo's chest burned. He wanted to deny it. But the memory… reaching for Aiden's hand in the chaos of the first fracture… then pulling away to save himself… it stabbed like a knife.
"I didn't want to—" Kairo gasped. "I was afraid…"
"Exactly," Aiden said coldly. "Fear makes people betray. And this world runs on betrayal."
The shadow-arm smashed down again. Mira dragged Kairo back just in time. "Kairo! Snap out of it! If you keep doubting yourself, he'll kill you!"
But Kairo's flame dimmed further. His vision blurred. His heartbeat slowed.
The shard at his chest pulsed. And the second voice spoke again.
> Weak. Pathetic. Do you see now? Without me, you will always lose.
Kairo's hands trembled. He could feel the shadow version of himself grinning inside.
Aiden stepped forward, red flame swirling around him like a storm. "Let the shard consume you, Kairo. Only then will you understand what I became."
Mira stood in front of Kairo, dagger raised even though her hands shook. "If you want him, you'll go through me first."
Aiden looked at her with cold pity. "You're nothing but a broken echo. Do you really think you can stand against me?"
Mira's jaw tightened. "Maybe not. But I won't move."
Kairo's eyes widened. She wasn't afraid. Not of dying. Not of Aiden.
The shard pulsed harder. White flame and black cracks tore across Kairo's body, fighting for control. His vision split into two paths—one where he gave in, and one where he resisted.
The shadow voice whispered louder:
> Choose. Light or dark. Truth or lie. Friend or enemy. But know this—if you hesitate, you lose both.
The tunnel shook. Aiden charged forward, blade raised to strike them both down.
Kairo's scream tore through the air as the shard exploded with light.
White and black flame twisted together, forming a new blade in his hand—half pure, half corrupted.
Aiden stopped mid-strike, eyes wide. "Impossible…"
Kairo stood, his body trembling, but his voice steady. "I won't choose between light and shadow. I'll use both. Because they're both me."
The tunnel walls cracked. Symbols burned brighter. The fracture above the subway roared open.
And for the first time, the Prime Clone's voice returned.
"The key has awakened."
The ground shattered.
Everything turned to white.
