Ava slowly opened her eyes, and then wished she hadn't. Her back felt like it had been stabbed, her arm feeling like it was currently stabbing her. "S O M E O N E K I L L M E." She rasped.
"She's awake." Beside her, Donnie was scrolling on his phone. Ava took in her surroundings with a pounding head. She was in some kind of bedroom, although damn it was lavish. The plushiest bed, drapes hanging from a bedframe, a whole fireplace. It would be great if she could actually enjoy it. "Hm. You must be out of painkillers. Sheldon, could you go get me some Fentanyl or morphine if we have some."
Sheldon flew out of the room, landing Ava's attention on the people around her. Raph and Mikey sat on a couch by the wall, perking up when they saw her awake. "Morning." Raph stood up, approaching the bed. "How are ya feeling?"
"Like I got stabbed a thousand times." Ava groaned. What happened? Her memory was… fuzzy… She was… right, she was in the general's room… What next? She was… right, fighting to keep Kris from killing Leo… Then… After that, all Ava could remember was 2 strikes of blinding pain. Her ears ringing, as she heard something in her body snap. And then a flash of pain before nothing. "....Where's Kris?"
"Kris?" Mikey echoed. The brothers exchanged glances. "Who's Kris?"
"Kris, the- Right, you guys don't- Kris, the other human I was with. Um… Dusty blonde, brown eyes… He wore a suit?" Ava rubbed her head as she tried to sit up yet was stopped as she tried to use her arms to stay up. Her right arm was wrapped tightly with cloth. "What's this?"
"Puts pressure around the area. The X-ray results haven't come back yet, but we think you have a broken arm." Donnie answered. "And as for this… Kris, assuming Leo took him with you, he would be in the dungeons."
"He did." Mikey confirmed. "Baxter too. Leo said he was going to interrogate him. Probably for who the next general is. This is the 3rd one we've captured."
Silence fell over the room like fog in a valley. Ava sighed. "Look-" Before she could begin to apologize or say she was wrong, Mikey hugged her tightly. Raph followed in suit, and Donnie gave a small smile.
"Don't you ever die again!" Mikey demanded. "We thought you were dead. We saw you hit the ground!"
"Yeah, I was able to open a portal, like the one you guys first saw me coming through." Ava explained.
"Where were you?" Raph asked as they pulled away from the group hug. "Where have you been for the past 6 years?"
"...Just… Running." Ava answered with a sigh. Sheldon flew back in, this time with a bag containing a few syringes of liquid.
"Very good Sheldon." Donnie took the bag from Sheldon, opening it and taking out the syringe. He flicked the tip a few times before injecting it into the injection port on the IV. A few moments later, Ava felt her muscles relax as the pain seemed to disappear. Fog seemed to drift into her mind as her eyelids felt heavy, however not in a tired way. It was like she had just woken up from a 19 hour nap after someone had played soccer with her brain as the ball. An exhaustion where sleep was the last thing she wanted. Her stomach felt like it was twisting and squirming, tying itself into knots but she couldn't throw up.
"What… What was that?" She mumbled, struggling to keep her train of thought with her.
"Medical Morphine. It'll help the pain… And as requested, keeps you from, well, running." Donnie answered.
"I never requested that." Ava protested, her head fuzzy. Why was it fuzzy? Ava hated fuzzy! Ava found herself starting to giggle, unable to control it.
"Hm, must have added a tad too much." Donnie commented. "Sheldon, I assume you brought Narcan as well?"
"Yup." Sheldon opened the bag once more, taking out a bottle of spray Narcan. Donnie took it, popping off the cap.
"This may feel a little weird." Donnie warned, tilting Ava's head back and spraying the Narcan down her nostril. Ava snorted, rubbing her nose. It tickled the inside of her nostril as Ava felt the small bit of euphoria disappear.
"...I can now say I've been high." Ava joked, although her head still swam. "...So… How's Leo doing?"
"He's got a bullet in his shell." Donnie answered bluntly.
"Wh-what?! How is he alive?!" Ava asked, eyes wide.
"Well after examining the bullet, it was a 9mm caliber or less, just enough to pierce but not shatter his shell. And along with it, the bullet missed important parts such as his spine or any other internal organs." Donnie explained.
"...What about Kris? Has anyone examined him?" Ava asked.
"Why are you so worried about this Kris guy? Didn't he try to kill you guys?" Raph asked.
"W-well yeah, but he was just doing his job! He's a nice guy." Ava defended. Kris WAS a good guy. He… was like the Yokai. Misunderstood for fighting back. For fighting for what they believed in. Kris had his own struggles, he had made it clear in the cave. Ava wasn't sure why he just opened up to her, but he did. And she was glad he did, or else she would be out to seriously hurt him. Maybe even… Before Ava could consider the possibility, the door opened. Leo walked in, wiping blood off his hands.
"How is she Don?" Leo asked, sitting in a chair beside the bed. His shell was heavily bandaged, the layers of gauze and padding apparent as it bulged out of the medical tape that held it in.
"She was asleep for a few more hours after you left, and we're still waiting for the radiologist to come back, however they are currently helping treat some soldiers and in therapy. The human still isn't used to hidden city life." Donnie explained.
"Wait, did you guys just kidnap a radiologist?!" Ava spoke up.
"Yes." Leo answered bluntly.
"Where did you even find a radiologist?!" Ava rubbed her head, dizzy from the outburst.
"We just teleported to a doctor's office, found where he lived, teleported there, kidnapped him and took him back." Leo explained. "Donnie just whipped up some simple… Uh… I forget the term but it's laughing gas to be put simply."
"Nitorus Oxide." Donnie corrected.
"We only needed a doctor to do the X-rays." Mikey assured. "We set him up in a house nearby. He's being treated fairly."
"...Donnie, earlier you said 'a few hours'. How long have I been out?" Ava asked, dreading to hear the answer.
"...32 hours." Donnie answered.
