Miss Jameson cleared her throat, commanding the attention of every student in the classroom. Her eyes swept across the room before settling on me for a lingering moment that made me shift uncomfortably in my seat.
"Today we will conduct an assessment," the teacher announced, her voice carrying across the silent room. "In the coming weeks following the Gilded Equinox, our academy will host a prestigious competition. Universities from across the region will send their finest students to compete in events spanning athletics to academics."
The classroom buzzed with quiet excitement as students exchanged glances. I remained focused on the teacher, though I could feel the weight of various stares upon me.
"This particular assessment centers on general knowledge, which serves as the cornerstone event of our academic competitions. We will select several representatives from both the freshman and senior classes to participate in this category."
