Chapter 219: Battle Against Lance
"Dear viewers, please don't rush to leave. We just received news that Ryan will be facing off against Lance, the Champion of the Johto League, in a championship match right here in this venue. Please remain seated and enjoy the even grander event!" the commentator announced.
The audience, who were about to leave, became excited upon hearing the news. Lance then entered the arena atop a Dragonite, his cape fluttering in the wind, exuding an air of confidence that immediately drew screams from a large number of fans.
"Tch. Showing off with his entrance? Aren't you afraid of falling?" Ryan scoffed.
Dragonite landed, and Lance jumped off its back, adjusting his cape. "Ryan, let's begin. Is your Pokémon ready?"
Ryan smiled and said, "It's ready. But Flabébé hasn't recovered to its best condition yet, so let's switch to Kyogre."
As Ryan spoke, the tournament staff quickly cleared the original battle arena, revealing a standard arena, removing as many burn marks as possible.
The new referee took his place and announced loudly, "The championship battle between Champion Lance and Elite Four member Ryan will now begin. Both sides will use six Pokémon. There will be no rest time, and both players can freely switch Pokémon until one side's Pokémon are all unable to battle. The match begins!"
"Go, Salamence!" Lance sent out his Pokémon first.
Ryan smiled and said, "Zeraora, I'm counting on you."
Zeraora transformed into a bolt of lightning, landing on the field, its body crackling with electricity. Looking at the Salamence opposite it, it beckoned, electricity gathering between its claws: it couldn't wait to fight!
"Zeraora, Plasma Fists!" Ryan exclaimed.
"Dragon Dance," Lance replied.
Zeraora instantly transformed into a bolt of lightning, throwing a punch directly at Salamence. Salamence performed Dragon Dance to dodge Zeraora's Plasma Fists, but Zeraora sneered, throwing a horizontal punch with its right fist. The lightning on its fist flew out and struck Salamence directly.
"Outrage," Lance said decisively.
Salamence's body glowed with a fierce aura, and a large amount of draconic energy surged from its body as it charged towards Zeraora. However, Zeraora clasped its hands together, then created an electric net, pushing it to bind Salamence.
Salamence's momentum broke through the electric net, but Zeraora was right in front of Salamence, and with a sliding tackle, brought it down. Zeraora seized the opportunity, slamming its hands into the ground and leaping into the air, delivering a powerful kick to Salamence's head.
Salamence's head slammed heavily into the ground, instantly knocking it unconscious.
"Salamence is unable to battle! Lance, please switch Pokémon!" the referee announced, somewhat shocked.
Not only the referee, but all the spectators stared in astonishment at Ryan and Zeraora. After all, in their minds, the title of Champion symbolized strength and power. But Ryan and Zeraora had decisively defeated the Champion's Pokémon, completely shattering everyone's expectations.
"Lance, if all your Pokémon are like this, then let's end this quickly. Bring out your Dragonite!" Ryan said calmly.
"Heh. Dragonite, not yet. But Salamence is indeed the weakest of the six. I was just testing your strength. Now, let's get serious. Go, Aerodactyl!" Lance said.
A flash of white light, and a gigantic Aerodactyl appeared. Judging from the aura emanating from it, Ryan felt that Aerodactyl's Aura was similar to his own Aerodactyl's, leaning towards sheer toughness.
"Aerodactyl, Hyper Beam!" Lance shouted.
"Plasma Fists," Ryan said.
Aerodactyl opened its mouth and fired a powerful Hyper Beam at Zeraora. Zeraora, charging towards Aerodactyl, was directly knocked back by the beam.
Zeraora gritted its teeth, enduring Aerodactyl's Hyper Beam. Since it couldn't get close easily, it would attack directly! Zeraora swung its right fist, and lightning shot towards Aerodactyl.
"Agility, Crunch!" Lance said.
Aerodactyl used Agility to accelerate instantly, opening its mouth wide and biting down hard on Zeraora. Zeraora cried out in pain, but also grabbed Aerodactyl to prevent it from escaping, while simultaneously unleashing a barrage of Thunderbolts to ensure Aerodactyl took damage.
"Stone Edge!" Lance said, waving his hand.
Aerodactyl bit Zeraora, and sharp stones struck Zeraora, sending it flying high into the air. With a violent impact, Zeraora fell helplessly to the ground, unable to battle.
"Zeraora is unable to battle! Ryan, please switch Pokémon!" the referee announced.
"I'm counting on you, Celebi." Ryan recalled Zeraora and sent out Celebi.
"Hyper Beam!" Lance said.
Aerodactyl fired another powerful beam, but Celebi's eyes flashed, and it used Future Sight to predict the attack. Celebi used Protect to block the beam.
"Agility," Lance said.
Ryan flicked his finger, and Celebi fired countless tiny seeds. The seeds grew rapidly, forming vines that sealed off the entire space. Aerodactyl was also enveloped by the Leech Seed, unable to move freely.
"Roost."
"Heal Block."
Aerodactyl was about to use Roost to recover its HP, but Ryan wouldn't let it have its way. Celebi promptly shot a ball of energy into Aerodactyl's body, preventing its recovery attempt.
Lance frowned and had Aerodactyl use its sharp fangs to tear at the vines, hoping to escape quickly. But it underestimated Celebi's time manipulation ability. A Psychic accurately hit Aerodactyl's head, interrupting its escape attempt.
Two more Psychic attacks followed, and Aerodactyl collapsed helplessly, unable to battle.
"Aerodactyl is unable to battle! Lance, please switch Pokémon!" the referee said.
Lance recalled Aerodactyl, clicking his tongue, "Tsk. This is troublesome. There are too many precognitive attacks with Future Sight. I don't know when one will come. I can only try to quickly defeat Celebi."
