Chapter 1 - Chapter 1-The Heirs

"Be careful Anna!"

Anna's body fell into the ravine because she took a wrong step while going down the hiking trail.

Anna grimaced in pain and held her bleeding knee. This wasn't her first time hiking, it was just that this time Anna was unlucky.

"Aw, it looks like a deep cut." Anna waved her hand upwards to call Harry. "I'm down here, I'm still alive."

Harry hurriedly descended into the ravine without caring about his safety. He was very worried that something had happened to Anna.

Anna's current state could not be considered good. Although she was still conscious, but her legs were injured quite badly. Even the special clothes used for climbing were torn.

Harry immediately took out the first aid kit. "Look, you're hurt pretty badly. I'll treat you."

Anna held Harry's hand. "Just help me up. Treat my wound there."

"Can you really hold it?" asked Harry.

"Yes. I've also been injured like this while riding." Anna tried to stand up and finally felt that her ankle hurt so much that she screamed at the top of her lungs. "Shit!"

Harry took off Anna's shoes and found that Anna's ankle was turning blue. "Oh my, it looks like you broke your ankle."

Anna looked down and shuddered in horror. "I can't stand it."

"Get on my back. I'll carry you." Harry knelt down in front of Anna.

Without waiting long, Anna climbed onto Harry's back and held on to the thick jacket the man was wearing to keep from falling.

This time Anna felt guilty that she was troubling others, especially since Harry was her brother's coworker and had recently gotten close to her.

"Don't feel bad about asking for help. You're the closest person to Jaden, so I have to help you."

The closest person? If Anna wasn't hurting right now, she would have laughed in Harry's face and said how close her relationship with Jaden was.

"I'm not usually careless. But I was too focused on looking up because a lot of bats were flying, I didn't watch my step."

"Yes, I believe so. You usually move quickly and swiftly too."

Anna hit Harry on the back and almost fell backwards. "I know that was sarcastic."

Harry laughed, trying to break the ice.

Once they were out of the ravine, Harry put Anna down. "I'll treat your knee first so the wound doesn't get infected. Then I'll put a bandage on your ankle."

"Yes, do whatever it takes as long as I don't see that blood again. I really hate the look of cuts and blood." Anna turned her face to the side so as not to see the wound on her knee. Anna was traumatized by blood in wounds. She hates it to this day.

Anna trusted Harry to take care of her wound because he was versatile. That's why he was selected to be the first person Anna chose to accompany her up the mountain. Usually Anna went up and down the mountain alone to release her mind.

"Aw, slow down." Anna winced as the alcohol-dipped gauze hit her injured knee.

"Sorry, I'll be more careful."

Anna watched Harry who was painstakingly taking care of her. She was questioning the role of her own biological brother because right now Harry looked more like an older brother to Anna.

"It's done. I'll look for a sturdy branch to splint your ankle. In the meantime, can you call for help?"

"Yes, I'll try."

After Harry left, Anna looked for her phone in her backpack. Luckily it was safely there. But unfortunately there was no signal, so it was useless even if the phone was safe.

"Harry! I can't find a signal." Anna yelled for Harry to come back.

Anna tried one more time, but she didn't expect much because it was like that on the mountain.

"It'll be dark soon. I can't help but force myself to go down so that we both don't get stuck here."

The place where Anna stopped at the moment didn't allow for setting up a tent either, so there was no choice but to go down.

Harry returned with a sturdy piece of wood. He quickly dealt with Anna's broken ankle.

"It looks like it's going to require quite a long recovery."

"No problem, I can still work with a leg like that anyway."

Harry gaped in disbelief. Although he knew that Anna was a workaholic, she was still a human being who needed to rest. "It's your own boutique after all. Can't you be more relaxed? You look even busier than your own brother."

"Precisely because it's my boutique, I want to make the best contribution every day." Anna bit her lip as Harry tightened the fabric ties on her ankle.

"Okay that's done. I'll carry you until we get down. There we can ask the mountain guide for help."

"You're seriously carrying me? You're not going to make me fall, right?"

"I train in the gym every spare moment in anticipation of things like this."

Anna rolled her eyes in disgust. "Things like this don't happen every day."

Eventually Anna let Harry carry her rather than them getting any longer down. They left their heavy belongings behind and only carried bags of food and drinks.

Anna didn't know that Harry would be this loyal to his brother that he would willingly carry the younger sister of his coworker. In the office, Harry was cold, stern. and seems to be ignorant.

"Do you want a position at Jones Cigarettes or Jones Airlines so you'd do this?" Anna asked.

"I'm a workaholic Anna, but I'm not a creep," Harry replied.

"Wait, stop." Anna whispered to Harry. "I hear a familiar voice. It's coming from the right. Did you hear it too?"

"You're right, I hear it too."

There was indeed a sound coming from the direction of the dense trees to their right. Since the sunlight was already fading, their vision was not very clear.

"That's the boar's voice." Anna finally recognized the type of sound. She knew this sound quite well because she had encountered wild boar twice while hiking.

Whereas this was Harry's first time. "Should we run?"

"No, we don't. We just stay still. If we run, then they will feel that we are the enemy. So it's better to wait for them to pass. Besides, it's close to the post down there, right?"

"Okay."

And sure enough, a wild boar emerged from the bush. It passed in front of Anna and Harry. They had to hold their breath.

"Damn this is my first time."

Anna chuckled and patted Harry on the shoulder. "You can walk again."

After traveling for about five minutes, they could finally see the first hiking post. The guards who saw them immediately approached. Medical reinforcements were also called in to treat Anna's wounds.

"Don't call Jaden," Anna said when she saw Harry about to call Jaden. "He'll be happy to see me like this."

"Did you guys have a fight?" asked Harry in surprise.

"We're not as close as people think we are. So it's better he doesn't know."

"But he's on the phone with me right now." Harry got one call from Jaden. He temporarily stepped away from Anna to pick up the phone.

Meanwhile Anna thought about her fate of having to go to her boutique in a wheelchair for some time until her ankle healed.

Harry returned at a run. "Jaden asked you to go to the hospital because Mr. Jones is not well."

Anna didn't know if this was coincidence or bad luck that had befallen her today. "Then I'll have my broken ankle treated at the same hospital. Can you help me take care of it?"

"Yes." Harry immediately spoke to the rescue team and they ended up taking Anna to the mentioned hospital.

To be honest, Anna was very worried about her father. Especially the last time Anna was told that Mr. Jones had a heart condition.

Anna was no longer living with her parents, she already had her own house from her hard work because she refused the facilities provided by them. More precisely because of Jaden, he didn't like it when his parents gave luxurious facilities to Anna while the young woman didn't contribute to the company but instead cultivated her own business.

"Anna. Anna, are you okay? Did you hit your head earlier?"

"I'm fine." Anna closed her eyes. Being the youngest child was worse than she imagined.

Anna never wanted all the attention her parents gave her, they gave it to her without her asking. And unfortunately that's what made Jaden hate Anna, because Anna was always favored in the family.

Even though Jaden already knows that Anna has a special condition so their parents treat Anna specially. But sometimes Jaden even deliberately provokes that special condition to come out.

"We have arrived at the hospital," said the paramedics.

They took Anna to the ER for a first check-up before transferring her to a room.

A doctor examines Anna's foot. "This does not require surgery. We will reattach the splint. But hospitalization is required until the cast can be placed."

"Is it severe, doctor?" asked Harry.

"You can relax, Sir. Once the swelling resolves, then the patient can do physiotherapy to restore the normal function of his leg."

Anna was relieved to hear that. At least she wouldn't need surgery as she was looking forward to seeing her father.

While being treated by the doctor, Anna spoke to Harry. "In what room?"

"VVIP. But you still can't move a lot, so I'll tell Jaden."

"No need. I can use a wheelchair to get there."

After the treatment was over and she was moved to her room, Anna immediately opened her phone. It turned out that there were indeed some missed calls and messages from her mom.

Anna glanced at Harry who was in this room to help her if needed. "Is Jaden there too?"

"I think so. Everyone is gathering."

Anna sighed. Three years of avoiding seeing her brother had been wasted in one day. Anna was so bored of meeting Jaden because it would only lead to arguments. That's how much Jaden hated Anna.

"I'll be there now."

"Let me take you." Harry immediately swiftly moved Anna to the wheelchair. He really made Anna feel comfortable and bothered to do anything. He even took care of all the hospital administration matters even though Anna also had a personal assistant.

Mr. Jones was treated in a VVIP room that couldn't be visited by just anyone. So when Anna and Harry wanted to enter the area, they had to go through strict checks. Moreover, the bodyguards hired by Mr. Jones were mostly new, so they didn't recognize Anna.

"I'm the second child of the patient," Anna said.

Immediately they stepped aside and bowed respectfully.

Everyone knew the wealthy Jones family was a business magnate in Brazil, but they didn't know the youngest child of the Jones family was Anna Jones, owner of a major fashion brand in Rio de Janeiro.

As soon as the door to the room opened, everyone in the room was shocked.

Mrs. Jones ran to her youngest child. "Oh my God Anna! What happened to you? Why are you in a wheelchair? What happened to your leg?"

"Mom, I'm fine. It's just a broken bone."

"Broken bone?" Mr. Jones suddenly asked out loud. Then he clutched his chest.

"Dad, don't be so insistent when you talk," Anna scolded.

Harry came out and Mrs. Jones brought Anna over to her father. "I heard from Harry that you had a heart condition and had a relapse. Why didn't you tell me before?"

"I didn't want to disturb you. But it turns out that even though I tried not to bother you to focus on your career, you still got hurt."

"I fell on a hike." Anna looked at Jaden who was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed. He seemed ignorant of Anna's presence even though he was the one who told Anna to come.

"I have something to tell you. I hope you agree to this."

"Wait, do you want me to get married? How many times have I told you that I will marry the person I love, not the person from an arranged marriage."

"No Anna, your father won't talk about that anymore. It's about something else."

Anna was silent. She was a little sensitive when her parents discussed marriage even though Anna didn't have any trust issues about it.

"I'm going to make you the second heir to the company. You will lead Jones Airlines."

Anna's eyes widened at that. Second heir?

"I don't want it," Anna replied spontaneously. Just getting special attention from her parents already made her hated by Jaden, so what about being the second heir? Jaden would probably kill Anna. "I don't want that position. I already have my own business and I'm comfortable with it."

"But you're my daughter, Anna. You and Jaden are my children, so I want you both to have equal rights. Once you're out of the hospital, we'll hold your official inauguration."

"What the heck! You can't decide that, dad."

There was a sudden knock on the door. Mr. Jones' secretary came in with some information. "I'm sorry Sir, there's a rumor about Miss Anna that suddenly appeared on the internet. What should we do, Sir?"

Anna grabbed her father's secretary's phone. "What? They're rumoring that I have a child with the CEO of Smith Technologies?"
