After reading the first diary entry, Nick Fury breathed a sigh of relief.
Unexpectedly, the scene described in this first diary entry was so shocking.
In the diary, Kang the Conqueror failed, but Kangs from various timelines joined forces with many monsters and the Celestial Group to destroy Earth together.
But who is Kang the Conqueror?
Some villain who wants to destroy the planet?
What is the Celestial Group?
The so-called gods from Norse mythology?
What is the Time Variance Authority?
An organization similar to a national strategic agency... like the S.H.I.E.L.D. I control now?
Nick Fury was pretty sure he had never heard of the Time Variance Authority.
Imagining this, Nick Fury turned on the computer and entered a few names.
"Su Che, Barton, Dr. Banner, the green giant, Thor, Loki, Hillevi, Ant-Man, Wanda, Pietro, Tony, Steve, Natasha Romanoff..."
After thinking about it, Nick Fury separated the three names, Tony, Steve, and Natasha Romanoff, from the others.
After all, according to the Black Gold Diary, Tony, Steve, and Natasha Romanoff were the first to sacrifice themselves or retire.
After a few seconds of hesitation, he placed Pietro's name in the same column as Tony's but marked an indeterminate symbol next to Pietro's name.
The diary clearly stated that others hoped the diary's owner and Wanda would have a child named Pietro.
That definitely didn't mean Pietro was dead.
After all, people often name their children after uncles, aunts, or other family members.
After sorting the names, Nick Fury began to ponder these people.
According to the diary, these were all people he had envisioned as members of the Avengers.
He could be sure that Su Che, the owner of this diary, came from a parallel world.
Barton, Natasha Romanoff, and Dr. Banner could likely be confirmed too.
And what about this guy named Tony?
Who is he?
Is it just the same name, or that famous playboy, the son of Mr. Howard Stark?
Probably not him. After all, no matter how you look at Tony Stark, he's a standard arrogant, narcissistic playboy.
Nick Fury found it hard to link him to the concept of a superhero.
He didn't know Thor, Loki, Hillevi, and the others either.
But Ant-Man... it reminded Nick Fury of Dr. Pym.
In S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top-secret files, Ant-Man was noted as someone who could use Pym particles to change size.
Could it be Dr. Pym?
Probably not. There was a detail in the diary: Dr. Banner was talking with Ant-Man and the female green giant about the education of the son he brought back from Sakaar.
This suggested that Ant-Man also had a child.
But Dr. Pym's daughter was almost thirty years old now.
And judging by Dr. Pym's personality, he wouldn't discuss such matters with Dr. Banner!
While Nick Fury was thinking, there was a knock on the office door.
Signaling the person to enter, Nick Fury saw Natasha Romanoff walk in.
Seeing Natasha enter, Nick Fury didn't put away the diary but asked calmly, "Natasha, what do you need?"
Anyway, based on his tests, other people couldn't see this Black Gold Diary.
"There was something at first, but Director, it's alright now!"
Looking at the Black Gold Diary on Nick Fury's desk, Natasha Romanoff shook her head.
Then she took out an identical black gold-covered diary from behind her back.
"You have one too?"
Looking at the black gold diary in Natasha Romanoff's hand, Nick Fury raised an eyebrow slightly: "Besides you, who else in S.H.I.E.L.D. has this diary?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D.?"
Natasha Romanoff nodded after a moment's thought: "Right, the name S.H.I.E.L.D. is indeed much simpler and more convenient than our current name." (Implies their organization might have a different/longer name currently)
After this comment, Natasha sat across from Nick Fury's desk and shook her head: "I don't know much about this."
"However, besides me, no one else seems to be able to see or touch this Black Gold Diary."
"I just tested it with Hawkeye and found he can't see this diary in my hand!"
"So, other than the diary's holder, no one else can see it."
Nick Fury nodded upon hearing Natasha's words.
"Not only that, Director. In fact, the diary holder cannot disclose the diary's contents to others."
Natasha Romanoff continued, adding to Nick Fury's knowledge: "I just tested it. I wanted to tell Hawkeye some unimportant content written in the diary."
"But before I could say the words, I suddenly felt a sense of dread. It seemed like if I said it, I would die."
"The last time I had such a terrifying feeling was during my training in the Red Room."
Having said that, Natasha Romanoff looked at Nick Fury and asked seriously, "Director, what do you think about what's written in the diary?"
