Chapter 167 - Chapter 167 Compound Magic

"So your next class is teaching Little Wizards how to defeat a Boggart? Does this thing even need to be defeated?" Kayson said, pointing to the trembling cabinet in the corner.

"Kayson, you're different from others. Not everyone's first reaction upon seeing what they fear most is to grab it by the collar and beat it up. Besides, some people's fears aren't a physical image; they could be abstract concepts, or even the corpse of a loved one... You can't exactly whip a corpse, can you?"

Lupin explained patiently.

"Hmm, that makes sense." Kayson nodded, finished the tea in his cup, and prepared to leave.

"Where are you going?"

"To research magic," Kayson replied casually.

"Take me with you." Lupin, who was drinking tea, quickly swallowed the scalding tea in his cup, stood up, and prepared to follow.

He hadn't forgotten what Dumbledore had said when he tricked him into becoming a Professor: that he was to observe all of Kayson's magic experiments, acting as a double guardian for the Alchemy Professor's safety and Hogwarts' structural integrity.

"Uh... alright, follow me."

Soon, the two opened the door to the alchemy office, and Lupin skillfully pulled over two boats.

"Why isn't Bruce here today?"

"I don't know, but dogs are energetic, so it's understandable."

Soon, the two stopped their boats. Lupin stood there blankly, utterly confused, looking at a new table and machine in the office area.

In the corner, there was also a square platform with nine neatly arranged slots on it.

He watched, wide-eyed, as Kayson pulled out his Newborn Magic Art Magic Book and placed it on one corner of the platform.

Next were shockingly large diamonds, dark, lumpy stones, and two fiery rods that seemed to be burning with flames.

"What the hell do I know about Alchemy? Dumbledore really gave me a tough job," Lupin muttered, bewildered.

Kayson, meanwhile, was happily flipping through his upgraded magic book. The previous one was a beginner's book, but this one was an intermediate version, called the Wizard's magic Book.

The magic runes used by the Newborn Magic Art Magic Book were divided into three levels. The previous novice magic book could only use Level 1 runes, but this one could use Level 2 runes.

Level 2 runes were unlike the Level 1 runes, most of which had pointless effects; Level 2 runes were genuinely very powerful.

And one of those runes, the Gravity Rune, Kayson had been coveting for a long time.

Just the name alone sounded impressive.

He opened the instructions and glanced at them: it required extraordinary clay, an anvil, and a rune press...

What is extraordinary clay?

This was the question that popped into Kayson's mind.

He continued to flip through the instructions...

"I can make it, fantastic!"

He breathed a sigh of relief. As for the method, it was simple: magic clay and magic gems could both be made using the infusion altar. Then, by adding these two magical items along with a bunch of original MC items, this extraordinary clay could be created.

"What's this thing for?" Lupin asked at the opportune moment.

"You can think of this thing as a template," Kayson said, placing the clay and anvil into the machine. The next moment, the Gravity Rune popped out, looking pristine.

"What the heck? This isn't scientific!" Lupin looked at this scene, which could shatter his worldview, completely bewildered by this so-called Alchemy. Kayson's previous feat of pulling out such a large anvil with his bare hands had already been baffling enough.

But why would putting an anvil and clay together and pressing them...

"Because of almighty magic, Lupin, my friend," Kayson explained, embedding the Gravity Rune into the slot in the magic book.

"So, strictly speaking, is this an Alchemy object or magic research?" Lupin asked again after calming down.

"Both. In fact, I can use magic without a magic book." Kayson put away the magic book and gestured towards the wine glass on the coffee table nearby. The next moment, the wine glass was crushed into powder by a sudden surge of pressure.

"Wow... but your control isn't great. Your coffee table has a dent in it." Lupin walked over, looked at it, and said with a chuckle.

"...Don't you know the Mending Charm? Give me a hand." Kayson said, a little embarrassed.

"Speaking of which, you can research so many strange and wonderful spells, so why can't you just find a proper spellbook and study it seriously for a few days?" Lupin asked while repairing the coffee table.

"Because I really don't have much talent in that area... Do you think I'm suited to learning the Patronus Charm? Dumbledore said the Patronus Charm requires happy memories, and I thought it would be very simple for me to learn, but in reality... nothing happened." Kayson spread his hands and said.

"In fact, one's own happy memories and bringing happiness to others are two completely different situations. How about I teach you?"

"No, thank you."

Lupin shrugged and didn't dwell on the matter: "By the way, are you only doing these small experiments now? I see you don't use those large machines much anymore."

"Those things are too dangerous. It's good enough for me to find something leisurely to play with." Kayson said, continuing to flip through the instructions in his hand. Soon, two more runes were created: Fireworks and Slow Falling.

"What are these two for?" Lupin asked.

"You'll know if you try them." Kayson said, pulling out a small remote control. The nearby floor-to-ceiling window slowly lowered, transforming into a large terrace.

"Come here."

The two came out onto the terrace. Kayson edited the Fireworks and Slow Falling spells together and then directly aimed them at Lupin, releasing the magic.

The next moment, Lupin was struck by a red light and shot into the sky with a whoosh. Soon, a large number of light particles, like fireworks, erupted from him, and then he slowly floated down.

"Wowowo..... fk...."

Lupin sat on the terrace for a long time before reaching out to Kayson: "I really want to punch you right now, honestly."

"Not in the face, okay?"

Lupin rolled his eyes, punched Kayson on the shoulder, and then used the momentum to stand up: "You didn't even offer to help me up... But your Fireworks spell is truly messed up. Ordinary Wizards wouldn't have the composure to hold onto their wands at that height."

"Without the subsequent Slow Falling spell, falling to death would be almost the only outcome."

"Mmm-hmm... Do you think if I first use Fireworks to launch an enemy into the sky, then apply Gravity to make them fall rapidly, it would cause a considerable amount of damage?"

"...I'm not playing with you anymore. Go find Bruce." Lupin said, breathing heavily.
