Chapter 5 - The Surprise Test

Narration:

The morning began with the usual chaos — Liyan pretending to revise while secretly Googling "How to pass Class 12 without studying." But fate, as always, had a cruel sense of humor.

---

[Scene: School Classroom]

Teacher: (with a sly smile) Good morning, students. Surprise test today.

Whole Class: (collective groan) NOOOOOO!

Liyan: (whispering to Aarav) Surprise test? Bro, I wasn't even prepared for attendance.

Aarav: (grinning) Chill. Just write confidently. Even if it's wrong, confidence gives 2 marks.

Narration:

Liyan's palms were sweaty, his pen already trembling. Rohan leaned over, whispering in his "cousin mode."

Rohan: (whispering) Don't panic. I've got a gadget for this. Memory Mirror Pen. Whatever you think, it writes the correct answer.

Liyan: (eyes lighting up) Bro, you're an angel.

[Test begins. Liyan starts writing effortlessly.]

Liyan: (to himself) This is magic. I might actually pass!

---

[15 minutes later]

Narration:

But then the pen started glitching. Instead of writing answers, it scribbled Liyan's actual thoughts.

Liyan's Paper:

Q1: "I should've studied instead of watching 7 hours of cricket highlights."

Q2: "Why is Math invented? Who asked for this?"

Q3: "Isha looks suspicious. Stop staring, Liyan!"

Isha: (peeking at his paper, smirking) Sharma… what exactly are you writing?

Liyan: (panicking) Uh—creative writing? Extra marks?

Rohan: (facepalming) The gadget reflects inner thoughts. I told you not to think nonsense!

Liyan: (whispering) Bro, that's literally all I think!

---

[After Class – Results Time]

Teacher: (handing back paper) Sharma… you didn't answer a single question correctly. But… your honesty is impressive. 2 bonus marks.

Class: (laughing)

Aarav: (patting his back) At least you're a philosopher now.

Ahana: (teasing) Forget IIT, you're ready for stand-up comedy.

---

Narration:

Later, sitting on the school stairs, Liyan looked miserable.

Liyan: (quietly to Rohan) What's the point, man? Even with gadgets, I'm failing.

Rohan: (serious now) Because gadgets can help… but they can't replace effort. Passing Class 12 isn't just about marks. It's about proving to yourself that you didn't give up.

Liyan: (thoughtful) …So, no shortcuts?

Rohan: Exactly. Shortcuts are like pani puri — fun for 2 minutes, regret for hours.

[The gang joins them.]

Isha: (squinting at Rohan) You know… there's something off about you. Normal cousins don't carry glowing pens.

Rohan: (laughing nervously) Uh—limited edition? Amazon sale?

Isha: (smirking) Right. I'm watching you, Rohan.

Narration (closing line):

As the sun dipped behind the school building, Liyan realized something: maybe, just maybe, Class 12 wasn't about finding gadgets. It was about finding himself.
