The light that swirled around Noona settled into her chest, burning gently like an ember that refused to fade. She placed her hand over her heart and felt it—warm, alive, and waiting.
Suddenly, the floor beneath her shifted into a vast field of glowing ash, stretching endlessly into the horizon. Above her, the night sky cracked open, and fiery feathers rained down like fragments of a forgotten world.
"Noona," the ancient voice echoed again, this time firmer, demanding.
"You have awakened the bloodline… but awakening is only the first step. To claim the Phoenix's strength, you must endure its trial."
Her breath caught. She looked at Irin, who stood just beyond the flames. His face was calm, but his eyes—serious, almost warning.
"You must not fear what you see," he told her. "The Phoenix burns away weakness. It will either accept you… or consume you."
Before Noona could reply, the ashes beneath her feet ignited, and from the inferno rose a massive pair of wings—fiery, magnificent, and terrifying. They were not hers… not yet.
The wings beat once, sending shockwaves of flame across the void. Noona staggered, heat biting into her skin, yet she did not retreat. Instead, she reached out, her fingers trembling, toward the storm of fire.
Pain lanced through her veins as if molten light replaced her blood. She gasped, nearly falling, but the warmth in her chest surged, answering the fire outside. Slowly—painfully—the burning wings bent toward her, fusing with the light within her body.
"Noona…" the voice softened, a mixture of pride and sorrow.
"Rise with the flames, or be lost to them."
Her scream echoed across the void, but so too did the sound of wings unfurling—her wings. Silver and copper feathers blazed into existence behind her, brilliant and radiant, cutting through the darkness.
When she opened her eyes, the trial field was gone. She was back in the dimly lit chamber, but she was not the same. Flames curled softly from her hands, and shadows recoiled from her presence.
Irin stepped forward, awe flickering in his gaze.
"You… you bear the true wings of the Phoenix."
Noona lowered her hands, her chest rising and falling. The fire within her no longer hurt. It felt like a heartbeat, steady and eternal.
And for the first time, she smiled.
"I'm ready," she whispered. "Show me the truth I was born to carry."
