Nora tossed and turned in her sleep. The same dream had returned for the third night in a row—a faint whisper echoing through endless darkness. She could not see where she was, yet the voice called her name with a tenderness that chilled her bones.
"Nora… do you remember?"
Each time she woke, her chest tightened with unease. But tonight, instead of fading, the whisper lingered, pulling her consciousness deeper. Images flickered in her mind: a woman in a golden headdress, eyes filled with sorrow, standing beside an ancient mask. The name Irin surfaced in her thoughts, though she had no memory of ever knowing such a person.
The following day, Nora wandered into the old university library. Dust hung heavy in the air, as though the place had been forgotten by time itself. Something guided her steps between the towering shelves until she stumbled upon a hidden corner. There, half-buried beneath piles of neglected tomes, lay a worn leather-bound notebook.
The cover was marked with the same symbol she had seen in her dreams—an intricate spiral intertwined with a lotus flower. Her fingers trembled as she traced the pattern.
When she opened the book, she found sketches of masks, cryptic writings, and strange chants written in faded ink. As her eyes scanned the pages, a sudden wave of dizziness struck her. In her mind's eye, she saw fragments of another life—
A girl kneeling before a shrine.
Torches blazing in the night.
A promise whispered beneath the stars: "I will find you again."
The voice returned, softer this time, yet more insistent.
"Nora… or perhaps… Irin?"
Her breath caught. The boundary between dream and reality was beginning to blur.
