Chapter 6 - Human World And Mother Past

All rescue members arrived in another city successfully. In time, Luna, James, and the other survivors headed to City Alpha, the ruined city where the settlement called City Magma once stood.

In this world's human civilization, there are no nations, countries, or kingdoms. All humanity belongs to a single kingdom divided into three categories: provinces, cities, and districts. Provinces have no names and are numbered Province 1, Province 2, Province 3, and so on. Cities and districts have names—like Alpha, Gamma, Theta—which are also the names of the heroes who fight for humanity. Over fifty billion people live under this system.

Government officials allocated apartments to every rescue member. Luke and his new family were delighted to see their tenth-floor apartment. Luna asked, "Big Brother, can I see your wings? Can I touch them?" Luke asked why. She replied, "They're beautiful. I want to touch them, brother, please," first making a cute face, then a crying one. Slightly annoyed, he closed the windows and door and refrained from using invisibility or intangibility so everyone could see his wings. Luna happily touched Luke's white wings.

"Brother, can you give me a feather from your wings?" Luna asked while hugging him. Luke extracted four feathers: one he gave to Luna, and with his draconic energy he transformed the other three into one bracelet and two necklaces. Draconic energy can create artifacts imbued with dragonic skills. Because it has defensive properties, Luke fashioned artifacts with defensive, healing, and restorative abilities. No one below level 200,000 can harm them. Luke himself is level 100,000, equivalent to a level-200,000 dragon or angel. He explained the artifacts' properties to everyone.

Both Olivia and James were deeply moved—Olivia's tears flowed like they were on a mountaintop. Luke was confused and wondered why Olivia was crying. He recalled Olivia's past: she was the youngest granddaughter of the strongest man in District Gold, where City Magma lies. Her grandfather loved her more than any other child or grandchild. When Olivia was five, her grandfather died protecting the city. After his death, at age six, her family abandoned her. Everyone in her clan hated her because her grandfather had shown her the most love. Her father, the new clan leader, and her mother hated her too.

At age ten, James—then twelve—found Olivia and took her under his wing. James earned a B-rank talent in blacksmithing at fourteen. Two years after James awakened his talent, Olivia awakened an A-rank healing talent. James joined the government organization as a blacksmith. Olivia dreamed of higher education for more resources and a better future. Her family discovered her plans and kidnapped her before the entrance exam. They released her after the exam, but her future was ruined.

Her family could not kill her inside the city because killing within city limits is the greatest taboo in humanity. Even the strongest man would never kill a beggar inside the city. Most murders occur outside the city walls. James held a permanent government position, so no district-level power could touch him. They isolated Olivia—no friends, never. Olivia remained level 5, and if she left the city, her family would kill her. They could not harm her physically inside the city, but they tormented her mentally and emotionally. Luna had no known friends in school either. Everyone hated Olivia except her grandfather, Luke, and James. No one else had ever helped her until now.
