Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Choosing a Mission

Time flew by quickly, and Statiw Att successfully upgraded to a C-rank Mage. During these days, in addition to familiarizing himself with the new abilities of his magic, he also digested the massive amount of knowledge that had been instilled into his mind from his unique power.

All of this knowledge was categorized and stored within it. When Statiw needed a piece of knowledge, the power would infuse the relevant information into his mind. If the amount of knowledge was too large, it would be infused in several parts. After digesting the first part, the second part would be infused, and so on, until Statiw had learned all the chosen knowledge.

With his magic now proficient and his basic knowledge fully digested, Statiw was eager to test his current abilities.

Entering the guild, most people were chatting with drinks in hand. Among the children of similar age, only Elfman, Levy, and Cana were in the guild. Levy and Cana were playing magical chess, while Elfman squatted beside them, watching.

He was different now from when Statiw first met him; his once timid personality had changed significantly. Currently, he was only a bit introverted and shy, but he could now play with other children his age.

According to Mirajane and Lisanna, this was Elfman's normal personality. Previously, his personality had changed due to the villagers in their hometown rudely trying to drive the three siblings away.

After such a long period of easing and Statiw's continuous encouragement, Elfman had not only returned to normal, but he also hoped to become the kind of unyielding and strong man that Statiw often spoke about.

Seeing the three of them, Statiw walked over to Elfman, looked at Levy and Cana's chessboard, and greeted them, "Hey, Elfman, Levy, Cana."

Hearing someone call, the three of them turned their attention to Statiw. Cana looked him over curiously and asked, "Oh, you seem to be in great spirits today. You're not like the past few days, looking all dazed and sleepwalking."

"What do you mean dazed? I was just concentrating on thinking about a problem," Statiw immediately explained when he heard Cana say that.

"What problem were you thinking about? If it's very difficult, you can ask Levy; she loves reading the most," Elfman was also happy to see Statiw return to normal and immediately suggested to him after hearing his explanation.

"Of course, if necessary, I will ask Levy for help, but the problem I was thinking about the past two days wasn't difficult, it just required a lot of time," Statiw nodded and patted Elfman's shoulder.

"Then can you tell me what the problem was? You always looked absent-minded, and I'm very curious what kind of problem would make you like that," Levy immediately became interested. She always liked reading and learning knowledge, and seeing Statiw say this, she immediately showed a curious expression.

"Nothing I can't say, just the composition of weapons like swords," Seeing Levy's curious look, Statiw didn't intend to hide it and casually mentioned the knowledge that his power had infused a few days ago.

"Aren't weapons like swords made of metal? Why would you think about such a simple thing for so long?" Statiw's answer immediately caused Cana's confusion.

"Yeah, Statiw," Elfman, on the other hand, had a worried expression, with a hint of pity in his eyes.

Seeing the pity in Elfman's eyes, Statiw immediately said, annoyed, "Put away your pity. What do you take me for?"

"I think the problem he was thinking about wasn't a simple weapon composition; it should be more profound, right?" Levy interjected at this point, helping Statiw explain.

"Hmm, indeed. It's too troublesome to explain in detail, so I won't," Statiw nodded and said, "By the way, I'm already a C-rank Mage now. I'm planning to take on a suitable mission. Elfman, do you want to come with me?"

"Okay!" Elfman was delighted when Statiw invited him to go on a mission together and readily agreed.

After agreeing with Elfman, Statiw walked over to the mission request board and began searching for a suitable mission.

"Subdue a bandit gang, kill a terrifying monster in the forest, subdue a magic beast on the snow mountain... find an item."

"Hmm? Find an item?" Statiw leaned closer to the mission request form and carefully examined its contents: "Requires a Mage skilled in finding items to help locate a ring that was placed somewhere unknown? This mission seems very suitable."

Saying this, Statiw reached out and took the request form from the mission board. He returned to where Elfman, Levy, and Cana were playing magical chess.

"Cana, are you using magic?" Levy asked with some suspicion, noticing that Cana's chess skills had suddenly improved significantly since Statiw went to choose a mission.

"No, I've always been like this," Cana immediately denied it and stopped her magic when she saw that Levy seemed to have discovered something.

"Is that so?" The innocent Levy didn't expect Cana to lie, only saying with some confusion, "That's strange, how did your chess skills suddenly improve so much?"

"Just inspiration, inspiration came, that's all," Cana immediately started to laugh it off.

Although Levy still felt a bit confused, she quickly refocused her attention on the chess game in front of her.

Of course, Elfman was similar to Levy. He also very easily believed Cana's words. He even repeatedly praised Cana for being amazing.

The subsequent chess game became clearer. Levy and Cana's chess skills were originally quite similar, but with the advantage Cana had accumulated from the few moves where she used magic, she quickly widened her lead. Before long, Levy was utterly defeated and had to resign.

"I've chosen a mission. Let's go," Seeing that their chess game had ended, Statiw tugged at Elfman, and the two of them went to the counter, handing the mission request form to the Guild Master who was drinking at the counter. In fact, whether it was Mirajane, Erza, Natsu, Gray, or any other kid in the guild, they all needed the Guild Master's personal approval when taking on a mission.

The purpose of doing this was simple: to protect the guild's children and ensure that the missions they took were within their capabilities, thereby avoiding any dangers.

At this moment, Guild Master Makarov took the mission request form that Statiw handed over, read it carefully, and then nodded, saying, "The mission location is very close, and it's just a simple item-finding mission. No problem, I agree. But in case..."

After thoroughly explaining the precautions and what actions to take if certain problems arose to Statiw and Elfman, Makarov handed the mission request form back to Statiw.
