Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Path to Becoming Strong

Led by Elfman, Statiw and he successfully bought all the items they needed.

When they returned to the Fairy Tail guild entrance, they suddenly heard a lot of noise coming from inside.

"What's going on?" Statiw pushed open the guild door, and the two of them entered.

The first thing they saw was Mirajane competing with a girl with scarlet hair, clad in armor.

Seeing the two girls confronting each other in the center, Elfman immediately became the commentator without waiting for Statiw to ask, and began to quietly introduce them: "The one confronting my sister is Erza; her strength is on par with my sister's."

"Oh, so that's Erza," Statiw observed carefully, realizing that she was indeed as he remembered her, exuding the aura of a heroine.

"You know Erza?" Seeing that Statiw wasn't surprised at all, as if he had known her for a long time, Elfman became a little confused.

"Team Mirajane and Team Erza, it's quite simple," Statiw shrugged, pulling Elfman past their battlefield and continuing deeper into the guild.

Hearing Statiw's answer, Elfman immediately understood his meaning. He awkwardly scratched the back of his head, a blush on his face, and chuckled twice.

As soon as they bypassed Mirajane and Erza's battlefield, a new one immediately appeared before them: the battlefield of a boy with spiky pink hair and a boy who was only wearing a pair of underwear.

"The one with the scarf is Natsu, and the one wearing only underwear is Gray," Elfman quietly introduced the two to Statiw. "They're just like my sister and Erza, neither of them will back down. So..."

At this moment, Natsu, who was in the middle of the confrontation, saw Statiw and Elfman, stopped fighting, and jumped in front of Statiw to greet him: "Yo, I'm Natsu, Lisanna told me you're a new member of our guild."

"Hello, I'm Statiw Att," Seeing this frank and uninhibited boy suddenly jump in front of him, Statiw quickly introduced himself.

"You're Statiw, right? Let's play a duel game!" Saying that, he was about to assume a fighting stance.

Statiw immediately waved his hand when he saw Natsu's appearance: "I'm not good at fighting."

Are you kidding? Mirajane and Erza already had the strength of powerful mages, and Natsu and Gray were certainly no slouches. Given that Statiw had just acquired magic and didn't even fully understand what his own magic was about, it wouldn't be a duel, but a one-sided beating.

"Don't mind this idiot. He's always like this. I'm Gray," At this moment, Gray, who had been confronting Natsu, walked over to break the tension.

"What did you say, you droopy-eyed guy? Who are you calling an idiot?" Natsu immediately forgot everything else when he heard Gray's words, and once again confronted him.

"I'm talking about you, you upturned-eyed, super big idiot. Who asks for a duel as soon as they meet someone?" Gray also forgot everything else, just like Natsu, and the two began to confront each other again.

"Big Brother Statiw, Big Brother Elfman, you're back! What did you buy?" While Natsu and Gray were confronting each other, Lisanna walked over from the counter, asking curiously.

Hearing Lisanna's question, Natsu and Gray immediately stopped their confrontation and both turned to look.

"Nothing much, just some things for painting," Seeing Lisanna ask, Statiw ignored Natsu and Gray in front of him and simply raised the items in his hand to show her.

"Oh? You use Pict Magic?" Cana, who was still a well-behaved girl at the time, walked over behind Lisanna and guessed, looking at the items in Statiw's hand.

"That's right," Statiw nodded.

"Ah, isn't that similar to that other Mage's magic?" Natsu immediately felt bored upon hearing this. After all, he knew that magic, which didn't have much combat power.

Natsu wasn't interested, but the others thought it was quite good. Thus, they quickly became familiar with each other.

Since young mages under the age of fifteen could live and eat for free at the Fairy Tail guild, Statiw spent the following time familiarizing himself with and practicing his magic, trying to increase its power.

He always remembered the saying: There are no useless magics, only useless mages.

Aside from occasionally asking Elfman to take on some simple, low-risk missions that were only located within Magnolia, he usually sat in a corner, pondering his magic, learning from others, and practicing painting.

However, his Pict Magic was completely different from the standard version, making it impossible to draw on others' magical experience. Therefore, for half a year, he could only constantly ponder it on his own.

Of course, this half-year was not wasted, and Statiw successfully found the path to becoming strong.

However, when he found this path, everyone discovered Statiw slumped weakly on the table, crying with tears streaming down his face, continuously muttering: "I've come all the way here, and I still can't escape these..."

Why is that?

It's simple: The standard Pict Magic relies on romantic imagination and sufficient magic power to materialize things. However, if Statiw's unique Pict Magic wants to materialize an object, he needs to know the specific information of the object he is drawing. The more he knows and the more detailed the information, the more real the materialized object will be.

Take a kitchen knife as an example: The standard magic is to draw a kitchen knife, then imagine what it would look like when materialized, and finally inject magic power into the drawing. The more magic power injected, the closer the kitchen knife would be to the one in the mind, until it was exactly the same.

Statiw's Pict Magic is different. If he just wants to connect to reality or make the painting move, it's fine. However, if he needs to materialize this kitchen knife, he needs to know precise data such as its length, width, height, the thickness and curvature of the handle, and other details. Moreover, merely knowing this data would only materialize a kitchen knife that only had the appearance, completely unusable.

To materialize a fully functional kitchen knife, he would need to know even more information, such as what material the kitchen knife is made of, the materials of the blade, the handle, the composition of the molecules and even atoms that make up the kitchen knife. In short, the more detailed the information he knows, the more real the kitchen knife will be.

There is a clear distinction between the two. The standard Pict Magic is simple to use but requires a lot of magic power. Statiw's Pict Magic, on the other hand, requires knowledge. Without knowledge, everything is useless; with knowledge, only a small amount of magic power is needed to support the use of the magic.

Fortunately, his unique power came with an innate understanding, otherwise, his path to becoming strong might not even have a chance to be realized. This also indirectly proved that he had found the right direction.

At this point, I believe everyone understands the reason for Statiw's tears: he had already come to a world of magic. Yet, he still couldn't escape the fate of studying, of needing to understand the fundamental laws of the universe.

That's right, it was only now that Statiw understood a problem: magic and science are actually two sides of the same coin, both are methods of exploring and understanding the natural universe. The universe itself is there, and it will not change regardless of whether you use one method or the other to explore and understand it.

Moreover, whether it is magic or science, their fundamental parts are similar, so even when using magic to explore and understand the natural universe, the transmission of energy and the composition of matter still needs to be understood. This is precisely why Statiw needed to continue his studies.
