Chapter 26 - Chapter 53

After the long and brutal night, the light of day takes over the darkness, as the blue supersun rises over the skyscrapers of the central region, and the sky becomes blue. While the city was no doubt a wonder at night, it was also not a question that it has its own unique life in the day, appearing as a completely different city, one that glows as a radial haven that reaches the whole solar system, as the supersun shines its light down on it.

The silver skyscrapers reflect the soft blue light of the sun, as while it doesn't need to give off its own light as it would during the night, it still nonetheless retains its own radiance. The light even reaches down to the streets, where pods race in different elevated lines, with many of the drivers heading off to work.

The upper lanes are above some of the buildings, flying over the streets and turning on intersections, with the flow of traffic smooth as everyone manages to move to their destination, as the city never seems to stop.

Versepolis was always alive it seems, whether in the bleak night or the gleam day, as there are also pedestrians walking on the ground, entering office buildings or heading for cafes to eat breakfast to start their day.

While it was a city that seems in constant peril to the unfortunately normal Exhuman attacks that sweep lives off their feet unexpectedly, it still seems to be able to stand after every beating, still managing to be a beacon for other worlds along with its own, the nucleus of the universal body.

Besides, most people understood the unfortunate fate of Versepolis, as since it was the great center of community in the Superverse, it was also the epicenter of targeted terrorism, since the destruction would be more impactful.

Unfortunately, Versepolis's size and status made it the best target for Exhumans, as the city was the top dog, and being able to defeat the king left no other challenger. Versepolis wasn't the worst Earth in terms of its reaction to Exhuman attacks, as in fact it was one of the better ones, as other Earths had a far worse time handling reconstruction after strikes.

The issue lies in the number of attacks Versepolis endured which made it seem that they had the worst Exhuman problem, which was statistically true, as the city had the greatest fatality rates caused by Exhuman terrorism.

However, while the city had been suffering in this beatdown for centuries, they were on the cusp of a turning point.

The ZPrints Enterprise building seems to catch the most sunlight due to its supreme size, standing far above the city pod lanes, yet was also the best point to view the space lanes of pods flying either from the sky above or to it, with the lanes being angled, appearing as a ramp constantly moving.

In the middle of day, there was work being done, as while it was a weekend, there were still shifts for particular people. The demand was too high to completely shut production down even for one day, and so the various floors were full of men and women in suits running back and forth with Pads and Connects.

At the top of the building was the flat rooftop which sits under the curved towers, and on that flat rooftop stands the armored hero, shining in his blue and gold armor, his black chainmail cape drifting in the morning breeze.

Meditat stands by the radio tower console, his suit's cooling vents glowing blue as normal again, with his capacitor belt recharged, as he had the time to regain his stamina back to moderate levels. His suit was still battered as he didn't have the time to change, however he stands tall, his blue eyes looking ahead with confidence as he looks off into the sky where the supersun reigns over the city.

Behind Meditat's flowing cape were two bodies lying on the ground, both suited. On the left was the orange bull, Cratus, and on the right was the man in the purple suit, Indra. Both of them seem asleep, as their suits still don't give off yellow light, and on both of their foreheads were the EPDs, which give a green light, indicating that they were actively in use, as the blue light indicated the initial activation. The disks seem to be glued to their head, as it clings onto their masks with a tight gravitational seal.

Meditat had collected both of their bodies shortly after the fight and took them to the highest point he could find in order to keep them far from the ground, and now all he had to do was wait.

Meditat looks up at the sun, knowing that it was well into the morning, making the night the longest he had been up since he would've typically gone back to the dorm to prepare for class in the morning. Luckily, he is still on the weekend, as it is Sunday morning, and so he doesn't have to worry about classes.

Still, he was worried his absence from his dorm would confuse Dexter, so he was already preparing an excuse, something along the line of an early workout session, which wouldn't feel too fake.

Meditat takes a deep breath before letting it out, wondering just how many lies he threw in the past few months to cover his tracks. However at least now, he had something to show for it, he finally had a success to report.

Speaking of, Meditat hears the sound of tired groaning behind him, echoing with a voice modifier, meaning that the two Exhumans were waking up.

Meditat lets out a soft sigh, and he turns around to see both Cratus and Indra still on the ground, however now their masks were lit up, as if activated. However, while Indra's mask was lit, that was the only glowing part of him, as his suit still doesn't have any more left, and his mask was running off its own separate battery to operate.

Meditat looks down on Cratus and Indra, his cape drifting behind his right side, and he walks towards the two.

Cratus can see Meditat as he was already angled in such a way, as can Indra, however the two don't seem to move, as their bodies stay in a lying position. Cratus begins to make growling sounds, and Indra starts breathing heavily, the two seeming to panic in their own ways.

Cratus bellows, "What did you do to me? I can't move! You...you didn't defeat us...not both of us…. How?! Why can't I move...Indra...there's radio towers here...that's energy...get some."

Indra breathes more heavily, completely perplexed. He stays silent for a few seconds before somberly reporting, "I...can't. I don't know why...but I can't feel anything when I try to use my powers. It's like I don't have them...I try to connect but nothing happens. I don't feel...anything!"

Meditat shakes his head, and he takes another few steps towards them before stopping right in front, his boots in front of their heads. He lets out a sigh before explaining, "Both of you are paralyzed by those Electric Paralysis Devices, they're going to block any signals you try sending to move your body, and they're also inhibiting you from exceeding the threshold to connect to your abilities. You're not going anywhere but wherever the police decide."

Cratus growls more, filled with regret and rage, for he never thought the situation would end this way, even if he thought it was a possibility. He threatens, "You think the police can hold us? Maybe an Exhuman like you has something, but let's be honest, if the police were good for anything we wouldn't be out here. You send us there, and we'll break right out. I thought you'd kill us or something, not work with them, wow I was impressed at first that you could take action but I'm disappointed again."

Meditat tsks, and he walks towards Indra's body while responding, "Like I care about what you think, even if in the end you break out, at least I'm doing something I can be proud of, unless you can convince yourself that you're working hard to kick down people who can't stand up. And even if you break out again, I'll throw you back in another cell, and another. But hey, I shouldn't be too mad at you, from what I know you only stole some credits from a bank that can be made up for. However your friend over here,..."

Meditat stops in front of Indra's head, and raises his black boot off the ground. He then places his foot on the side of Indra's head, and pushes it down slightly, not enough to damage his head, but enough for it to be felt.

He continues, "...he took something that can't be replaced, back in that mall. How many lives did you take that night, or did you stop counting? I wonder how many more you took on other days, what were you thinking coming back to me?"

Indra groans as he feels the pressure on his head, and then weakly answers, "I...told you...I thought...you'd make a smart choice. You really...think you're doing justice...sending us off there? I know you know this...but in case you forgot...do you want to be reminded of what they're going to do to us when we get there? They know we can't be contained...so the only thing they can do...is execute us. What you're doing...is no more moral...than killing us right here. You're just going to...have us slaughtered...in the end...you're just like us...you're just...a cold hearted killer."

Meditat's eyes glare on Indra's head as he stares for a few moments, and in those few moments, neither Indra nor Cratus knew what Meditat would do. If he wants to, he could very well crush Indra's head with a downward boost, something it seems he very much wants to do.

Instead however, Meditat takes his foot off of Indra's head, and turns around before stepping away from them.

Meditat looks up at the blue sky, and he takes a deep breath. He then slightly opens his mouth under his mask, and simply replies, "Then you'll know how they felt."

Indra goes completely silent in utter awe by the soft yet brutally cutting response. Cratus does as well, as neither of them knows what to say, so they say nothing.

Meditat continues staring at the blue as the sun continues rising, and he looks up, contemplating what he's doing. He was well aware about the harsh fate caught Exhumans would endure, and he was even worried that the police would suspect him of being one as well, and throw him in with them.

He knew that in the end, he would be killing both of them by sending them off, and he knew that it was a fate Indra was trying to escape this whole time.

However, Meditat wasn't the law, and he couldn't stop the process in territory he didn't nor want to control. All that mattered was that he could prove that he could protect the people from the tyrannical Exhumans.

While he was taking a brave stand, he knew that there was much he didn't know, and so he didn't want to impede the people hired for the job, even if part of him felt some mercy.

As Meditat keeps his focus away, he hears the quiet yet vaguely audible sound of the elevator door open, which immediately grabs his attention, as he realizes just how odd of a scene it could be for any random worker checking the rooftop for whatever reason.

Meditat hastily turns around, his cape wrapped around him as his blue eyes stare frantically, wondering what to say to calm the situation.

But to his surprise, he doesn't see a person, but rather gets hit with a powerful blinding light which also causes his ears to ring.

Meditat instinctively covers his eyes, as while he is wearing goggles, even then he still feels the blinding effect. He groans in confusion as his ears ring painfully, confused with what was happening, wondering if he was being attacked.

Amidst the chaos, he feels two hands touch his shoulders, not violently exactly, but noticeably. Even with his eyes shut, Meditat tries swinging his arms at whoever the attacker is, but doesn't grab anyone, making him wonder if he was even touched.

Meditat staggers backwards, and he puts his hands on his eyes again, feeling dizzy and disoriented, his head becoming light. He notices the blinding light begin to dim as his ears stop ringing, as if the nightmare was ending, but he was very much wrong.

Once the light fades to darkness, Meditat finally is able to open his eyes, staring right into the palms of his gloves. He then slowly moves them off his eyes, and looks ahead where the elevator door was, and where he left Cratus and Indra.

To his confusion however, the elevator door wasn't open. However, what was below catches his eyes, as to his horror, neither Cratus nor Indra were in front of them, but instead gone.

Meditat staggers back again, completely shocked at how quickly they vanished, especially since they were still restrained by the EPDs. And yet within seconds they were gone, all of Meditat's hard work to capture him gone in seconds.

However, before Meditat could even take a step forward, he immediately hears a deafening explosive blast, and he immediately feels an intense throbbing migraine. He puts his hand on his forehead as he groans, but while he tries to deal with the headache, he notices the sky around him before a much darker shade of blue, and he suddenly feels his body become hot.

Meditat shakes his head and turns around to face the source of the explosion, to which his eyes widen in complete shock, as his whole body shines with the dark blue glow that seems to cover the skies.

Meditat stares over the edge of the rooftop, his black cape still drifting, as he looks up at the dark blue skies that seem to cover the world. Where the supersun once reigned with confined royalty, now is replaced by a great supernova, its color being a much more fiery blue, as the sun seems to be expanding at a rapid speed, possibly already devouring the Earths closer.

Meditat blinks twice, and he steps back, staring in utter disbelief and confusion, as he watches the supersun which was said to be able to last for possibly infinite time explode before his eyes, and begin consuming everything that once peacefully orbited around it.

Sirens begin to rage from the city, bringing Meditat's attention down, as he walks towards the edge of the rooftop to stare at the reaction. The whole city seems to blast sirens, however it doesn't even seem to be due to the exploding sun, as there was somehow an even more immediate danger.

The city was in chaotic warfare, as even from far above Meditat could hear screams of terror, as whole rows of buildings seem to be on fire, and there also appears to be a great flood farther up north.

At first, Meditat is confused at what was creating this uproar, until he examines closer with his goggles, zooming towards the burning buildings, to which he sees a man wearing a black undershirt, walking over the rooftops, holding his hands up as fire comes off his body. The only explanation: Exhumans.

Meditat zooms out as he watches the flood start to devour the city, and lightning suddenly appears from the sky, constantly striking the city in different places, which are followed with more terrified screaming.

Meditat shakes his head, realizing the people were in danger, and so he tries to run to the edge of the rooftop, wanting to leap down and help. However, when he tries moving, his head hurts more, unbearable and prohibits him from movement.

Meditat tries to push forwards, but instead falls, his knee dropping to the ground as he's unable to keep going, and lacks the strength to even get back up. His forehead hurts even more, as he finds himself completely confused, experiencing such sudden and abrupt chaos on what seemed to finally have been a day of victory and celebration.

Watching helplessly, he witnesses the wide skyscraper, where he had fought the Exhuman committing grand theft auto, suddenly collapse as if it was made of sticks. As the skyscraper crumbles so easily, a figure appears in the smoke, a great humanoid silver giant, similar to the one Meditat had fought before, the one piloted by James Seth.

The giant walks through the crushed building, seeming far larger than the one Meditat had fought before, as it seems the debris of the destroyed skyscraper liquifies to silver goo before crawling up his body.

As the silver giant continues to move more skyscrapers before running into them, Meditat's attention is caught by another skyscraper being crumbled to the giant's left side, not seeming to be caused by the same enemy.

Instead, as the tower collapses, a man reveals himself from the other side, being just that, a man, who appears to be shirtless, his body only barely visible with his head and shoulder appearing through the smoke, as while he looks like a normal man, he stands to the height of the skyscrapers, as if he was able to greaten his size dramatically. The man swings his arm towards another skyscraper, knocking it down as well, as the whole city seems to be falling apart.

Other buildings seem to erupt from the inside, as an office building with glass walls seems to light up orange from the inside before the ceiling bursts with a stream of lava, which then pours over before consuming the whole building, and dripping down to the city's streets to continue spreading.

Meditat watches in horror, completely unable to help all the people in pain, as his migraine forbad him. He just stares as the giants continue crushing more skyscrapers with ease, gradually approaching him. The streets flow with both flooding waters and burning lava, as the citizens were being slaughtered in great numbers, completely helpless.

Meditat raises his head back at the sun, which is far larger now, nearly covering the whole sky. It seems to have confused far more Earths, and shows no sign of slowing down.

He breathes heavily, his forehead sweating, as he has no idea what to do, as while he sought to fight on the Exhuman terrorists, he can't take on so many, and the immediate threat of the supersun's meltdown was something he has no solution for.

He then hears the sound of an object being hurtled towards him from behind, and he turns his head to face the tall curved tower above the rooftop, where the other dishes were. He watches as out of nowhere, Cratus suddenly reappears, landing on the curved tower, gripping on as his hands penetrate through the wall.

He stares down at Meditat, his mask glowing yellow, as his orange armor glows in the blue skies. He doesn't speak, nor advance, he just stalks from above, watching the chaos.

Meditat watches in silence, confused with how he was completely fine, as his armor seems to have no dents, even though he surely damaged the mask at least. Cratus just seems to stare back at him, his hand inside the tower, waiting.

Meditat only has a few seconds to watch Cratus before his attention is shifted again, as he hears great roaring thunder behind him, causing him to turn once again, even if it was putting his back towards an enemy. He looks at the blue skies as thunder continues rumbling, and flashes of yellow light appear in the air.

Yellow lightning bolts then start striking from the sky, many of them, as if it was raining lightning. The storm was loud and ferocious, hurting Meditat's head even more.

Just then, one massive yellow lightning bolt strikes in the near distance, right in front of Meditat, but after it strikes it leaves a figure in the air, hovering above the skyscraper.

The figure was the man in the purple suit, Indra, whose whole suit lights up yellow, as he seems completely fine as well. Indra stares down at Meditat, with massive yellow arcs coming off his body, far larger than the ones before.

He then slowly raises his hand as more lightning strikes from above, as if he commands the weather itself, showing power far above what Meditat fought earlier.

Meditat hears Cratus's grunt as he turns back to witness Cratus throw himself off the tower, and down to the rooftop, landing in front of the elevator, where Meditat had let him lay. Now, he is on his feet, his fists clenched as he growls hungrily.

He slowly begins approaching Meditat, who then turns back to face Indra, only to see Indra begin approaching him, hovering in the air, as more yellow lightning bolts strike around the building.

Behind Indra, the two giants turn to the ZPrints Enterprise building, and start walking towards it. While they were shorter than the building, they were still incredibly powerful, and could possibly knock it down if they wished to do so with little effort.

Meditat staggers backwards, unable to use his suit's maneuverability functions to escape, leaving his only movements to be sluggish steps. He backs up until his back hits what feels like a wall, even though he thought he was still farther to the edge.

He turns around to see if he was at the elevator, but instead his eyes meet face to face with Cratus's, who stands before him, slowly approaching. Cratus stares at Meditat with the open glowing mouth vent, making it appear as if he was a real animal, wanting to feast on Meditat's head.

Meditat stumbles forward, trying to escape from the orange bull, and he turns forward again. However, he's met with Indra's everclosing approach, cutting off any safe routes.

Meditat feels Cratus's approach behind him, but his eyes stay fixated on Indra, whose body sparks with yellow lightning while he hovers over the titanic destroyers below, and the rest of the city burning from the rage of the Exhumans.

It was as though Indra was the leader, the revolutionist, who'd drag the confederate flag to toss out the old one, commanding the new gods to overthrow the old, laying destruction to the old world to bring his own vision to reality.

The two giants stop in front of the enterprise's building, and both throw their arms into the middle of the tower, demolishing the central floors. The destruction causes the top half of the tower to begin descent, aiming to crush the lower half.

The fall of the tower would be nearly exactly how the O.R.I.A.L building fell, the same history repeated, with or without Meditat's presence.

Meditat feels the building begin to fall, the ground shaking before falling beneath his feet, leaving him in the air to free fall. He stares at Indra, and then at the rapidly expanding supersun behind him, which now engulfs the whole sky, having reached the center of the Superverse. The heat was scorching and unbearable, as Meditat wasn't sure what'd happen first, his body melting from the heat of the expansion, or his body being swept away.

Unable to move, Meditat could do nothing but watch as the blue sun expands into the Earth, turning the city into a fiery blue blaze, disintegrating the land before him. Indra nor the other Exhumans even seem affected, as they were free from their confinement, their power finally released and unleashed.

Meditat's final moments are on Indra's hollow yellow eyes, as the blue sun consumes his body, before taking Meditat's, blinding him with a bright light, an unwanted release.

Then everything becomes dark and cold.
