Singer suddenly laughed—a laugh full of disdain.

"I think the one who needs to face reality is you. Do you really believe you're a match for me? Let me tell you, what just happened was only—"

Pshhk!

Before Singer could finish, Ur suddenly slashed out. With a clean slash, Singer's remaining arm was severed at the shoulder. His expression froze, words dying in his throat.

Ur grinned, flashing a full set of white teeth. "Honestly, you're so weak that I'm having a hard time finding any reason why I wouldn't be your opponent."

Ur didn't know where Singer's confidence came from, but that didn't stop him from acting. The mission only required Singer to be rescued. It never specified that he had to be intact. For safety's sake, Ur felt it was better to cripple him first.

Singer's expression turned ugly. He had always carried a gloomy aura, but now, in his rage, his entire face twisted grotesquely.

"You're courting death!" Singer roared in a hoarse, bloodshot glare.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah… you're right. I am courting death. If you've got the guts, come bite me," Ur said as he casually picked at his ear, his expression thoroughly punchable.

Singer's eyes instantly reddened even more.

Truthfully, Ur did admire Singer a little. As an ordinary person, albeit a wealthy one, he had managed to toy with an entire group of mages—that alone qualified him as a mid-tier schemer. The only thing Ur couldn't stop complaining about was how utterly chuunibyou Singer sounded.

Rule the world, seriously? Had he considered how a certain black dragon might feel about that?

Singer was furious and deeply humiliated. In his entire life, he had never encountered an enemy like Ur—vicious, decisive, and utterly shameless.

Even though he had lost the sense of pain, Singer had never planned on becoming crippled. If that thing hadn't yet fully fused with him, he swore he would have already twisted this hateful brat's head clean off.

Ur watched Singer with interest. Though his expression looked relaxed, the vigilance in his heart never faded for even a second. If not for the fear of killing Singer outright, Ur would have chopped off his remaining two legs by now.

The Way of the Wanderer passive didn't just grant Ur extraordinary sword talent—it also bestowed a hidden ability: mental premonition.

This ability warned him whenever he was about to face a life-threatening danger. Ever since Ur had severed Singer's arms, that premonition had gone completely berserk.

He tightened his grip on the sword. He had already decided—if anything unexpected happened, even at the risk of failing the mission, he would kill Singer on the spot.

Unfortunately, events still spiraled beyond Ur's control.

Without the slightest warning, agony exploded in Ur's mind, as if needles were piercing his brain. His vision vanished. Sound disappeared. In an instant, the world plunged into absolute darkness.

"Not good…" Even without the frantic warnings of mental premonition, Ur knew something had gone terribly wrong.

The overwhelming sense of danger made every hair on his body stand on end. A freezing chill surged from the soles of his feet straight to the top of his head.

Ur struggled desperately to break free from the darkness.

As the danger peaked, at the very last moment, Way of the Wanderer activated another hidden ability. Borrowing that power, Ur forcibly tore himself free from the black void.

The instant his vision returned, a black shadow shot straight toward him, targeting his heart.

Slash! Slash! Slash!

Without hesitation, Ur unleashed a triple strike. The incoming object was shredded midair, crashing to the floor in writhing fragments.

"What the hell is this thing?" Ur frowned as he looked at the bizarre object. Before he could think further, a shrill voice suddenly echoed through the lab.

"I didn't expect you to dodge that. Looks like your luck really isn't bad."

The mocking, disdainful tone made Ur instinctively look up—and in the next instant, his pupils shrank violently.

What appeared before him was a monstrously huge creature.

Countless tentacles, like those of a jellyfish, waved through the laboratory. Each one was at least five or six meters long, and the point where all the tentacles converged was none other than Singer's body.

"So that's it. This was your goal all along?" Ur said coldly. "You captured that creature so you could fuse with it?"

"Hahahaha! That's right!"

"Come to think of it, I should actually thank you. Originally, it would've taken quite some time for the demon jellyfish to fully merge with my body—but by cutting off my arms, you greatly accelerated the process." Singer burst into hysterical laughter. His fully mutated face no longer bore any trace of humanity, grotesque and terrifying.

"Well? Can you feel my power now? This is a gift from the great Zeref himself. Do you still think you can be my opponent now?"
