Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 : The Arena of Blood and Secrets

Alright! Here's Chapter 26, with the masked assassin Nyxara's offer, the opening Chapter 26 – The Arena of Blood and Secrets

The air outside the amphitheater pulsed with tension.

Drums thundered, their rhythm echoing through the veins of every warrior gathering at the gates. The scent of steel, sweat, and bloodlust hung heavy in the dusk.

Chen Yue stood at the threshold, Ayara and Velira flanking him, when the masked woman blocked their path.

Her silver mask gleamed faintly in the red glow of the crystal torches. The curve of her lips was soft, dangerous, her voice smooth as silk over steel.

"Chen Yue," she purred, rolling his name on her tongue as if tasting it. "So the Nameless Fragment is not just a rumor."

Velira's blade hissed half an inch from its sheath. "Move, assassin. Or I'll freeze that smile off your face."

Nyxara chuckled, low and melodic. "Fiery. I like her." She leaned closer, her crimson silk brushing the cold air between them. "But if I wanted you dead, you'd already be ash."

Ayara stepped forward, emerald eyes narrowed. "Then what do you want?"

Nyxara tilted her head, her masked gaze never leaving Chen Yue. "A choice. The Ebonflare King sent the Seven Veins to break you… but I am not a blade that dances only for one master."

Her words curled around them like smoke.

"You could fight me here," she continued, "and draw the eyes of every hunter in this city… or you could accept my offer."

Chen Yue's eyes narrowed. "And that is?"

Nyxara's lips curved. "Survive the tournament. Prove your strength. And when the time comes… let me be the one to kill you."

Velira growled. "Tch. She's insane."

Ayara whispered sharply, "Chen Yue, don't—"

But Chen Yue raised a hand, silencing them both. His violet-silver gaze locked onto Nyxara's mask. "You're playing a dangerous game, assassin."

Her smile deepened. "So are you."

And with that, she melted into the crowd, her crimson silk vanishing like a flame snuffed by the wind.

Ayara grabbed his arm, panic flickering in her eyes. "You can't trust her!"

"I don't," Chen Yue said simply. "But an enemy who doesn't strike right away… is more useful alive."

Velira's scowl deepened. "If she stabs us in the back, I'll stab you first."

Chen Yue smirked faintly. "Deal."

The Grand Arena of Lunaris City

The amphitheater roared like a living beast.

Fifty thousand voices thundered beneath the open sky, chanting and jeering, their cries echoing off black stone walls inscribed with glowing crimson runes. The circular arena below stretched wide, its sand stained with countless layers of dried blood.

Massive iron gates groaned open, releasing streams of warriors into the pit. Some carried heavy blades etched with glowing glyphs, others bore spears of bone, gauntlets crackling with lightning, or cloaks shimmering with enchantments.

Chen Yue, Ayara, and Velira walked side by side, the crowd's roar rising in waves as their presence spread across the field.

"Look at them," Velira muttered, her sharp eyes scanning the competitors. "Hunters. Mercenaries. Every one of them smells like blood money."

Ayara's hands tightened around her staff, her lips pressed thin. "And every one of them would kill us for the bounty."

Chen Yue ignored the stares, the snarls, the murmured threats. His gaze was locked on the towering dais at the far end of the arena.

There, upon a throne of jagged obsidian, sat the Tournament Master—a massive figure draped in wolf pelts, his body scarred like broken stone, his eyes burning gold.

The Master raised one arm, and silence fell like a blade.

"Warriors of Lunaris!" his voice boomed, rolling through the arena like thunder. "Tonight, under the gaze of the Blood Moon, you fight for glory, for wealth, and for survival!"

The crowd erupted.

The Master's grin widened, teeth flashing white. "And for one prize greater than gold—the Map of Shattered Skies!"

Gasps and cheers rippled across the arena.

Ayara's breath hitched. "So it's true…"

Velira's knuckles whitened around her hilt. "Then every last bastard here will kill for it."

The Master's arm dropped. "Let the slaughter begin!"

[Tournament Commencing.]

[Round 1 Objective: Survive.]

[Opponents: 132.]

The sand erupted.

Warriors lunged at one another, blades shrieking, spells flaring in a storm of fire, lightning, and blood. Screams ripped the air as bodies fell, crushed, burned, and torn apart in the chaos.

Chen Yue exhaled slowly. "Stay close."

Ayara and Velira pressed at his flanks.

And then the storm came to them.

A massive brute wielding a hammer of black iron bellowed as he charged, swinging with enough force to shatter stone. Behind him, a pair of twin mages in crimson robes flung bolts of flame. A rogue with curved daggers flickered into existence at Chen Yue's back.

"Now!" Velira barked, her sword flashing as frost erupted outward in a storm. The brute's hammer slammed into her blade—but her frost aura surged, locking the weapon in ice.

Ayara raised her staff, emerald light flaring as roots burst from the sand, coiling around the rogue's arms before he could strike.

Chen Yue moved.

The Chaos Meridian pulsed, threads of violet-silver fire flooding his veins. His body blurred as Triad Flow activated, the bond between them igniting in a sudden surge of clarity.

For a heartbeat, he saw through Ayara's eyes—the rogue's dagger trembling in her roots. Then through Velira's—the brute's stance faltering as the frost cracked his hammer.

Their senses merged. Their movements flowed.

Chen Yue's hand shot forward, Voidfire crackling at his fingertips. He slammed his palm into the brute's chest—

—and the man vanished in silence, consumed by silver flame.

Ayara gasped but didn't falter, her roots tightening to snap the rogue's arms with a sickening crunch. Velira spun, her sword carving a frozen arc that shattered one mage's spell mid-cast, the frost racing up his body until he became a statue of screaming ice.

The crowd howled in bloodlust and awe.

Chen Yue exhaled, his aura dimming slightly as he forced the Voidfire back into its cage. "Next."

More came. Dozens. A storm of blades and spells.

But with Triad Flow, they were a single body. Chen Yue's chaos, Velira's precision, Ayara's support—their movements seamless, deadly. Every strike anticipated, every weakness exploited.

Blood stained the sand. Screams filled the night.

And still they stood, unbroken.

High above, in the shadow of the obsidian throne, Nyxara watched from the stands, her silver mask glinting faintly in the crimson light. Her smile curved behind it, soft and cruel.

"Impressive," she whispered. "He may actually be worth betraying."
