Chapter 32 – Bond of Beasts and Flame

The gong reverberated through the amphitheater, sharp as a war drum.

Kael's beasts lunged forward the instant it struck—three shapes of terror moving as one.

The crystalline wolf hit first, jaws snapping like steel traps, its fangs gleaming with mana light. Chen Yue slid back, Voidfire bursting beneath his feet to propel him aside. The wolf's bite shattered stone where he'd stood.

Above, the molten-winged hawk dove, its wings shedding sparks like burning rain. At the same time, the scaled panther blurred across the platform, a streak of shadow and fire, eyes glowing with hunger.

The crowd roared, drunk on spectacle.

The Beast-Binder

Kael stood unmoving in the center of the arena, runes across his gauntlets blazing. Mana chains coiled from his arms into the beasts' bodies, glowing like veins of light.

"They are my will," Kael thundered. "My strength multiplied! What chance does one man have against three lives bound to his?"

The wolf lunged again, the panther flanking, the hawk circling overhead. The stage became a storm of fangs, claws, and burning feathers.

Chen Yue's Voidfire slashed outward, but for every strike he landed, the beasts pulled back, uninjured, mana flowing from Kael's chains to repair them.

Ayara gasped from the stands. "He's feeding them his own life force."

Velira snarled. "No—it's worse. He's enslaving them."

The bond pulsed. Chen Yue felt their revulsion ripple through him, and it stoked his fire.

Chains vs Bonds

The wolf lunged once more. Chen Yue caught it with a hand to its throat, Voidfire flaring. But instead of burning it to ash, he hesitated.

Through the Triad Flow, he felt Ayara's plea: Don't kill them. They're bound, not evil.

His fire dimmed just enough to avoid incinerating the beast.

The wolf twisted free, snapping at his arm. Chen Yue gritted his teeth. "So be it."

He planted his feet, Voidfire swirling into a cyclone around him. His voice cut through the arena, steady as iron.

"Kael! You mistake chains for bonds. These beasts don't fight with you—they fight because of you. That is slavery, not strength."

Kael sneered, his gauntlets blazing brighter. "Chains hold! Bonds break!"

The beasts lunged again, driven harder by his will.

Resonance

Ayara's voice rang in Chen Yue's chest through the bond. "Yue—we can help. Let us in."

Velira's aura surged, hot and fierce. "Damn right. Stop carrying it all alone."

Chen Yue felt their strength pressing against his, not chains, not leashes—threads of light.

He opened himself.

The Triad Flow roared to life.

Ayara's healing warmth surged into him, a current of green-gold light steadying his breath. Velira's fury slammed into him like a forge hammer, sharpening his focus, his flame hardening into a blade.

Voidfire ignited brighter, tinged with streaks of green and crimson.

The crowd gasped as his aura flared—no longer a storm, but a controlled inferno.

The Bonded Flame

The wolf lunged once more. Chen Yue met it head-on, Voidfire enveloping his fist.

But this time, the flame didn't devour. It wrapped the wolf in silver-violet chains laced with green light. The beast froze mid-snarl, eyes flickering.

The hawk dove. Chen Yue raised his other hand, hurling a crescent of fire. It curved midair, not to kill but to entrap. The hawk shrieked as the flame coiled around its wings, dragging it safely to the ground.

The panther struck from behind, claws tearing sparks from the stone. Chen Yue turned, Voidfire surging with Velira's fury. His strike hit like a hammer, pinning the panther without burning its flesh.

All three beasts writhed—but instead of agony, their eyes shifted, confusion flickering where obedience once lived.

The crowd fell into stunned silence.

Ayara whispered through the bond, awed. You're freeing them…

Kael's Desperation

Kael snarled, veins bulging as he poured more mana into his chains. The bindings glowed red-hot, searing into the beasts' flesh. They howled in pain.

"Obey me!" Kael roared, blood dripping from his gauntlets. "You are mine!"

The beasts screamed, torn between the chains of mana and Chen Yue's binding flame.

Chen Yue's fury boiled. He stepped forward, Voidfire burning brighter.

"You call this strength? This is weakness. You can't even fight without shackles."

The bond surged again—Ayara's compassion, Velira's wrath, Chen Yue's defiance. Their resonance wove into his flame, and for the first time, his Qi sang like a chorus.

"Bond Resonance Technique: Flame of Three Hearts!"

The arena erupted.

Flame of Three Hearts

Chen Yue thrust his hands outward. Voidfire blazed into three arcs, each striking a beast.

But instead of destruction, the flame devoured the mana chains. Kael's bindings shrieked, runes unraveling, his gauntlets cracking under the strain.

The wolf's eyes cleared first, its crystalline fangs dimming as it shook free. The hawk spread its molten wings, fire burning with natural fury, not forced command. The panther growled low, stalking Kael instead of Chen Yue.

Kael stumbled, blood pouring from his nose. "No… no! You're mine! You obey me!"

The beasts turned, their eyes blazing with new freedom.

The wolf howled, the hawk screeched, the panther roared—then they lunged at Kael.

Collapse

Kael screamed as the wolf's fangs sank into his arm, the panther knocked him flat, the hawk's talons raked his armor.

Chen Yue lowered his flame, letting them rend their chains the way only beasts could.

When Kael finally collapsed, bloodied and broken, the beasts stood over him, no longer bound but unwilling to finish him.

Chen Yue raised a hand, Voidfire weaving into gentle chains of light. "Go. Be free."

The bindings dissolved, the beasts fading into streaks of mana that fled into the wild.

The gong struck.

The duel was over.

The Aftermath

The crowd exploded into cheers and stunned cries.

"Did you see—he freed them!"

"That wasn't mana, it was something else—"

"No chains, no leashes—how is that possible?"

Ayara clutched her chest in the stands, her tears hot with relief. Velira's jaw clenched, but pride flickered through her aura, fierce and unspoken.

Chen Yue stood in the center of the arena, his flame fading, his body trembling with exhaustion. But in the bond, there was no regret—only unity.

For the first time since the corruption duel, they burned together, not apart.
