Kyra slowly straightened in her chair, as she shook her head, "I am fine. I am really sorry…" She massaged her temples gently.
The young accountant smiled, "Miss, actually I have run your situation through the bank manager but…"
Hearing that, Kyra looked at the girl.
"But I am sorry. We cannot process your loan," The young accountant returned the documents to Kyra, "Your educational and professional background is indeed impressive. But currently, you have no job at all and so you have no permanent source of income. We are unable to avail a loan for you…"
Kyra had just left the bank when her phone buzzed. When she saw that it was a mail from the high school where she had interviewed for a job, her eyes lit up briefly.
The interview had gone exceptionally well and they told her they will reach back to her.
Yet, the moment Kyra tapped on the mail, her eyes dimmed.
She was rejected.
There was no explanation or reason, just a clear rejection letter. And in these six months, Kyra had gotten used to this because her ex-boyfriend kept his promise and made her life hell.
Kyra aimlessly walked on the streets. She hadn't made it far when suddenly, huge droplets crashed against her skin. She looked up at the darkening skies as it rained and her heart gradually turned cold.
'Without me, you are nothing.'
'Miss, with your current state, you cannot avail a loan.'
'You are rejected.'
'Your brother's condition relapsed. I'm afraid his treatment would be way more expensive from here. Please make arrangements.'
One couldn't tell if it was the raindrops that trickled down Kyra's cheeks or tears.
She no longer knew what to do anymore. If she did not get the money then how long could her brother survive? But with her current circumstances, how could she get the money?
A voice in her head mumbled: You know the way. Go back to Jackson. Beg him. If you beg him well, he might take pity on you.
Kyra pressed a palm on her ears, her face turning pale.
The voice continued: What use is your dignity if you can't save your brother? You have to swallow your pride and do it.
It felt like an invisible weight was crushing down on Kyra, crushing her resolve inch by inch.
Just as she took a step forward in a daze, her gaze locked onto a place at the other end of the road.
'Amusement Park'
The huge animated letters stared back at her, reminding her of the days when her mother was still alive.
In a daze, Kyra entered the amusement park.
The moment she disappeared into the amusement park, there was a movement in a cabin by the entrance.
A hat slid off and the security guard opened his eyes, "Sir!"
"What happened? Did you doze off?" The senior security guard scoffed when he approached him.
"No… No… How could it be? I was diligently doing my duty."
The senior security nodded, "You can slack off any other day but not today. The entire amusement park has been booked by a very important person and the child is no ordinary one. So you must be alert. Make sure nobody gets in."
"With me around, not even a fly can enter!"
''Good."
Once the senior security guard left, the guard cautiously placed the hat back on his face and continued sleeping on the swivel chair, "Heh~ What can go wrong when there is only a child in such a huge place?! It's pouring like cats and dogs, a good nap is most important!"
…
'Mama, rollercoaster… rollercoaster…'
'No rollercoasters for me… Mama is not getting any younger! How about you go with your sister? She will always protect you!'
Back then, her mother would take her and her little brother to the amusement parks in town whenever there was a fight between her and her father.
Kyra's lips curled down at the memory of their first visit to the amusement park.
Kyra had just taken a step forward when her footsteps came to a halt. A flash of white amidst behind a booth caught her attention. There was someone there!
Danger alarms blared in Kyra's head.
She snapped out of her trance and looked around, suddenly coming to the realization that the entire amusement park was empty. Earlier… She did not even have to pay to enter.
Kyra's sixth sense tingled. No matter what, she had to live first. If she died under suspicious circumstances, nobody would come to retrieve her body!
Keeping her eyes on the booth, she began to retreat with soft footsteps.
But suddenly, there was movement behind the booth and a tiny hand dangled on the grassy ground.
Kyra was stunned. She immediately rushed behind the booth and her heart lurched to her chest.
