Chapter 101 - Chapter 101:[The Festival OF Masks ARC]The Morning After

Chapter 101(Part 12)

The sun rose over Castrone like it had never seen a lighthouse.

Golden light spilled across the rooftops, warming the streets and chasing the last shadows of night into the corners. The city stirred slowly shops opening, carts rolling, voices rising in the familiar rhythm of morning.

Alok stood at his window and watched it all. He hadn't slept. He had tried, but every time he closed his eyes, he heard waves crashing against cliffs, a woman's cold laughter, a voice that crawled through his skull like smoke.

"This is only the beginning."

He touched the pendant. It was cold against his fingers. Still. Silent.

Not a word since the lighthouse. Why now?

He didn't have an answer. He didn't like that.

The others gathered at a small café near the edge of the festival grounds. It was Rihan's idea. He said they needed to talk, to plan, to figure out what came next. Alok had agreed, mostly because he didn't have a better idea.

Rihan arrived first, already nursing a cup of tea when Alok walked in. Ravel came next, sliding into a seat across from them, his shoulders still tense, his eyes still avoiding direct contact. Sera followed a few minutes later, her face pale, dark circles under her eyes.

Tira came last.

She stood at the entrance for a long moment, as if waiting for someone to tell her to leave. When no one did, she walked to the table and sat at the far end, her hands folded in her lap, her gaze fixed on the wood grain.

Alok waited until the waitress brought their drinks. Then he spoke.

"We need to figure out our next move."

Rihan set down his cup. "Vaelia's still out there. She's not going to give up."

"I know."

"She'll come back. Maybe with more people. Maybe with something worse."

"I know."

Rihan leaned back. "Then what's the plan?"

Alok didn't answer immediately. He looked at Tira.

"You know her better than anyone. What will she do next?"

Tira flinched, as if she hadn't expected to be addressed. Her fingers tightened around her cup.

"She'll go after Ceya again," she said quietly. "Ceya's blood is the key. Without it, she can't complete the ritual. She'll try to take her alive. Or she'll kill her and take what she needs."

"Where would she go?"

Tira shook her head. "I don't know. She never told me everything. She kept pieces hidden, even from me."

Alok studied her for a moment. Then he nodded.

"We keep watching. We keep preparing. And when she makes her move, we'll be ready."

Ravel spoke for the first time. "Boss..."

Alok's eyes snapped to him. "What did I say about calling me that?"

Ravel's mouth opened, then closed. He looked down at his hands.

"Sorry. I just... I don't know what else to call you."

"My name. Use it."

Ravel nodded, but Alok could see it the word was already forming in his mind again.

He let it go. For now.

The morning passed in fragments.

Sera left to check on her brother. Rihan went to gather supplies. Ravel drifted toward the training grounds, muttering something about needing to clear his head.

Alok stayed at the table.

Tira stayed too.

They sat in silence for a long moment. Then Tira spoke, her voice barely above a whisper.

"You don't trust me."

Alok looked at her. "Do you trust yourself?"

She flinched again.

"I don't know," she admitted. "I thought I knew who I was. What I was. But now..." She trailed off.

"Now?"

She shook her head. "Now I don't know anything."

Alok looked at her really looked at her. The hollow eyes, the trembling hands, the fragile hope she was too afraid to name.

He had seen that look before. On his own face, years ago, when he had nothing left.

"Trust takes time," he said quietly. "But it starts with showing up. That's all you have to do right now."

Tira met his gaze for the first time.

"Show up?"

"Yeah. Just show up."

She didn't respond, but something shifted in her face a small crack in the wall she had built around herself.

He walked through the festival grounds alone.

The noise was everywhere laughter, music, the constant hum of voices. But Alok barely heard it. His mind was elsewhere.

He kept circling back to the pendant.

Extera's voice had been clear. Not a whisper. Not a fragment. A voice, sharp and unmistakable, coming from inside the stone.

"You think you've won?"

"I never die. I'm in your pendant. In your heart. You carry me with you."

Alok pressed his palm against the stone. It was still cold. Still silent.

What if he's right? What if he's still there, waiting for the right moment to take control?

He shoved the thought away. There was no time for fear. There was only the next step.

Ravel found him near the combat arena.

Alok was leaning against the railing, staring at the empty field. Ravel hesitated before approaching, then stepped up beside him.

"You... uh... you okay?"

Alok didn't look at him. "Fine."

Ravel nodded slowly. He opened his mouth, closed it, then tried again.

"I know I messed up. I know I don't deserve...."

"Ravel."

Ravel stopped.

Alok turned to face him. "I'm not going to hold the past against you forever. But I need you to stop calling me 'boss.' It's not who I am."

Ravel stared at him. "Then what are you?"

Alok paused. He didn't have an answer. Not a simple one.

"I don't know yet," he admitted. "But I'm figuring it out."

Ravel nodded slowly. He looked like he wanted to say something else, but he didn't.

They stood in silence, watching the empty field.

The afternoon came and went.

The festival continued around them, indifferent to the battles fought in the shadows. Students cheered, vendors shouted, flags fluttered in the warm breeze.

Alok walked back to the café. The others had gathered again, their faces tired but determined.

Rihan spoke first.

"I found a lead. Someone who might know where Vaelia went."

Alok's eyes narrowed. "Who?"

Rihan hesitated. "An old contact. Someone who's worked with her before. He's in Feilw Land."

Sera stiffened. "Feilw Land? That's....."

"I know," Rihan cut in. "It's dangerous. But it's also the only lead we have."

Alok looked at the group.

Tira's face was pale but steady. Ravel's jaw was tight. Sera's hands were clenched.

He turned to Rihan.

"Then we go to Feilw Land."

POV SHIFT – Ravel

Ravel watched Alok say the words. He didn't flinch. He didn't hesitate.

He just... decides. Like it's that simple.

He thought about the lighthouse. About Alok standing in the center of that room, unbroken.

I could never be him. But maybe I don't have to be. Maybe I just have to follow.

He clenched his fists.

For once, I won't run away.

POV SHIFT – Tira

Tira listened to Alok's words. Her chest tightened.

Feilw Land. The place where everything started. The place where Vaelia found her.

She wanted to say something. She wanted to warn him.

But she couldn't find the words.

So she just nodded and followed.
