Chapter 237 - END

"Notify all units in the fortress: enter maximum war posture and launch a full-scale assault on the human lines."

The Lord of Nullity, the Void Attendant, and the Apostle of Extinction—the three Rangdan Overlords—reached an absolute consensus, issuing counter-measures from their command thrones.

Their directives were unified and resolute, as if rehearsed countless times before. Indeed, as the supreme decision-making body of the Rangdan, they had long received intelligence via their sovereign channels: the deep rear of the Rangdan Empire had been drained to the point of collapse by the high-intensity war of attrition.

Furthermore, prior to this decisive battle, the Haughty Overlord had been captured, the Creator's whereabouts remained unknown, and both Despair-Sky and Wander-Sky were confirmed dead.

It required little deliberation; any race possessing standard intellect understood that the Rangdan Empire had entered an irreversible decline in this war. This brilliant empire that once spanned the void was slowly spiraling toward its demise.

Having foreseen this outcome during their prolonged standoff with the Nur Stars, the three Rangdan Overlords had simulated scenarios time and again, preparing every possible countermeasure to resist the inevitable human counter-offensive. In terms of timing, the moment closely matched the predictions of their artificial intelligences.

"Make ready," a low, hollow voice said, laced with a faint sigh. The Lord of Nullity drifted down from his throne, his psychic aura flickering with grim composure: "We go generously unto death."

The Overlord of Extinction and the Void Attendant followed closely behind, moving to the flank of the command hall and descending into the cockpits of their specialized bio-armor. They offered no words, unable to utter a single rebuttal, swaying their neural tentacles to link into the armor's control systems.

To face Blazkowicz Nowick, the Rangdan Overlords had cast aside their pride and dignity, donning bio-powered war-suits to meet the challenge. Every Rangdan Overlord understood that when facing this gene-primarch, the slightest lapse or hesitation would spell their immediate death.

Their psychic waves were eerily placid as they allowed their attendants to respectfully seal them inside the bio-power armor. Yet deep within their souls, collapsing alongside their pride and dignity, was their mighty empire. The Rangdan Overlords knew that the moment they donned power armor to enter the fray, the Rangdan Empire had already lost.

Even if Solas exerted every ounce of his power, he could not reverse the collapsing tide. The Rangdan Empire could no longer sustain any strategic counter-offensive; it could only watch helplessly as its brilliant majesty crumbled into a heap of dust.

As the bio-armor cockpits sealed and the Rangdan Overlords stepped out of the command hall, their departing silhouettes bore a profound sense of desolation. They seemed diminished, for the dust of their empire's ruin now rested upon their shoulders, crushing everything they had once held dear.

With the Rangdan Overlords taking the field in person, the entire battlefront mobilized completely. The elite Rangdan warriors and slave-thralls summoned their final reserves of morale, preparing to launch an all-out, desperate clash.

Sorrowful emotion rippled through their psychic frequencies. Amidst their grief, the elite Rangdan warriors drove their slaves forward, planning a full-scale assault. Yet, compared to normal times, there was less disdain in their eyes for the thralls—for at this final hour, the slaves would join them in becoming sacrifices buried alongside the fallen Rangdan Empire.

The line wavered amidst a pall of grief and martyrdom. Along the Rangdan's mountain defenses, every massive gate set within the towering ramparts ground open as phalanxes of elite warriors surged forth in full force. Between the ranks, various war engines followed in disciplined order, deployed evenly across the formations to assemble a dense, offensive array.

Thick clusters of mobile shields erected a protected sky above them, followed closely by dense formations of elite thralls. These were the elite forces held in reserve throughout the war of attrition—the Rangdan's absolute last battle-worthy troops.

Flanking the slave armies were massive formations of autonomous automata, advancing steadily under the direction of artificial intelligence. Through their long standoff with the Nur Stars, the Rangdan had adopted widespread automated warfare, boldly delegating command to artificial intelligence so that machine might clash against machine. Regrettably, such efforts remained in an exploratory phase, failing to form a fully integrated doctrine.

A biological Titan leaned against the ramparts as it stepped through the city gates, raising its head as its sensors repeatedly scanned the human lines. It was abundantly clear that humanity was equally prepared for this final clash.

An unprecedented array of Atlantean mechs stood in formation, breathing in unison with their pilots. Their heads turned to sweep the battlefield, these giants fully armed and wielding heavy melee weaponry. At the feet of the mechs, swarms of cybernetic automata surged like an iron tide, deploying from within the fortress walls out to the front line.

Within the crisscrossing iron trenches, the density of human soldiers reached an all-time high, flanked by patrolling warriors clad in white power armor. Intelligent four-legged self-propelled artillery units maneuvered into optimal firing positions; drone swarms blotted out the sun; cybernetic platforms hovered in the void; and ultra-heavy war engines completed their deployment.

Even the Rangdan warriors, their minds set on death, were awed by the sheer spectacle.

Standing atop the bio-Titan's head, the three Rangdan Overlords retracted their distant gaze and ignited the plasma blades held within their bionic appendages.

"Fight to the death!"

They pointed their blades directly at the human line, their psychic frequency calmly broadcasting the signal to every Rangdan warrior. There was no fiery pre-battle speech; the absolute resolve to die surged through their psychic waves, allowing every warrior to feel it clearly.

The host moved as one. A tide numbering in the hundreds of millions spilled out from the defensive perimeter, surging toward the all-too-familiar human lines. The ground trembled beneath them as the charging front advanced like a black wave, poised to crush anything standing in its path!

Stretching across a 500-kilometer front, the entire line pushed forward, launching assaults from every conceivable vector.

"Night Wardens!"

A roar echoed from within the human lines. Harlan stood atop a heavy tank, his Dark Light gleam cast in dark hues beneath the incandescent glow of a pulsar. His voice trembled slightly. The xenos army surged like a rising tide, the reverberations of the earth catching the sword champion's vocal cords, making his voice sound raspier than usual: "We are the Night Wardens! Unrivaled! Unstoppable!"

"Light your blades! Slay the xenos!"

Hummmm—

The Light of Tranquility ignited behind him, spreading outward to both flanks. Blue energy blades flickered like stars along the vast front line.

"Unrivaled! Unstoppable!"

A thunderous battle cry echoed along the entire front. The Night Wardens ignited their dimensional force blades, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Iron Men automata like pillars of stability beside the baseline human soldiers. The most glorious warriors stood ready to meet the most violent battle.

"For the Master of Mankind!"

Taciturn Custodians raised their Guardian Spears high. They had been dispatched here to ensure the absolute integrity of Planet V's front lines. Now that the hour of final battle had arrived, the Emperor's personal guard stepped to the fore to witness the last frenzy of the xenos.

The soldiers of the D'Nur Elite Regiments were fully locked in, gripping their weapons tightly as they stared fixedly at the black tide, their breathing involuntarily rapid. They were not Doom Marines, nor did they possess the immense power of the Night Wardens; yet with mortal bodies, they had stood against a xenos empire for fifteen long years. These mortal soldiers were weary, yet they remained utterly fearless!

They knew that accompanying the xenos' final frenzy was the ultimate end of an endless war. Through fifteen years of unyielding perseverance, what had their shattered minds longed for, if not this day of finality? Whether they lived or died, having endured the long night, they now glimpsed the dawn of victory.

"Regimental warriors, form ranks! We shall use the blood of these xenos to honor the souls of our fallen brothers!"

Colonel Miles was still alive. The endless struggle had carved deep furrows across his rugged face; he had lost his left eye, his socket now fitted with a crimson cybernetic optic. Through fifteen years of brutal warfare, he had risen to the rank of Second-Tier Field Commander, leading an army of 100,000 men.

The war had inflicted profound trauma upon the mortal officer. Having watched countless comrades perish, his soul no longer quavered; he was as cold as a machine. Only the dozens of dog tags hanging from his left arm proved he was no automaton—that deep within his chest, emotion still endured.

Having finalized his regiment's deployment, Miles ordered the command bunker raised from the trench. Peering through the side slit with macro-binoculars, his steady heart rate could not help but accelerate slightly. Even as a veteran of ten thousand battles, the sheer scale of this confrontation moved him. The Rangdan abominations and their thralls were mounting a final, desperate struggle—they were going all-in!

[Shield-Piercing Ordnance Loaded. Long-Range Bombardment Commencing.]

Text flashed rapidly across his tactical interface as data streamed across Miles's cybernetic eye, synchronizing commands and artillery coordinates simultaneously. The roar of artillery had never ceased, but now it reached a deafening crescendo.

Raising his binoculars slightly, he watched the parabolic descent of standard shell salvos, interspersed with flecks of blue light. The shells pierced the mobile force fields, detonating against the armored bases below, leaving behind rings of blackened scorch marks.

Through countless tactical engagements, the Rangdan had learned hard lessons and adapted accordingly. Unable to intercept or counter shells designed to penetrate force fields, they sacrificed mobility, mounting heavy armor to absorb direct artillery hits. The mobile shield generators had to keep the advancing forces safe; if a shield generator were destroyed and the troops exposed to open artillery fire, regardless of their numbers, they would be vaporized in the blink of an eye.

BOOM! BOOM!

Colossal mushroom clouds rose across the field as the plasma engines of heavy mobile shield generators detonated, proving that even armored hulls could not escape destruction. The plasma warheads of heavy secondary shells had punched through the thick armor plating, striking the massive power cores. The iron leviathans crashed down in ruin, bringing disaster upon the lives sheltered beneath them.
