Chapter 236 - BATTLE

Having welcomed back a lost brother, Sanguinius proceeded with even greater caution. He regrouped his fleet, transferring his command to a Blackstone Fortress to continue operations behind enemy lines, while dispatching the Red Tear to escort Nachiel Selene back to the Imperium.

To guarantee his brother's safety, Sanguinius assigned a detachment of the Sanguinary Guard to ensure he returned securely to Imperial space.

In the J-11 System, the war had surged past its white-hot phase, entering the final, decisive stage. The system had long been reduced to a shattered ruin, with both the Imperium of Man and the Rangdan Empire fighting with fanatical desperation.

When news reached the front that the Blood Angels had recovered a lost Primarch, morale soared, injecting a powerful surge of hope into the rotting, brutal stalemate. At this critical juncture, the return of yet another Primarch served as a monumental encouragement for humanity—for the conflict had reached an existential turning point.

On the primary theater of Planet VII, the Dark Angels Legion had sustained horrific casualties. When the First Legion initially joined the Rangdan War, it fielded 110,000 Astartes. Supplemented by aggressive recruitment efforts following the Lion's return, their total strength had reached 140,000 legionaries before the Planet VII campaign opened.

At this stage of the war, nearly half of the Dark Angels had fallen—an unimaginably devastating loss. Had it not been for the arrival of Custodian reinforcements, that casualty figure would have been far higher. The drastic reduction in force might have even compelled them to withdraw from the main battlefield, forcing the Luna Wolves to step in as relief.

Yet Lion El'Jonson overruled all objections. Relying on his own haughty resolve and the formidable strength of the First Legion, he stubbornly held the line. For the Lion, this most brutal of battlefields was the sole crucible through which the Dark Angels could scour away their past shame.

Conditions on the secondary battlefields were no less grim, matching the intensity of the main front.

On Planet VIII, the situation was equally dire. The Salamanders Legion was engaged in a direct, head-on confrontation with an entire Rangdan tribe, facing unimaginable pressure. Vulcan and the Sorrowful Overlord—the two "gentle souls" of their respective races—were now locked in a blood-crazed frenzy. Their compassion could not tolerate watching their genetic scions or tribal warriors perish beneath enemy bombardment.

Both sides deployed forbidden armaments, driven solely by the goal of absolute physical annihilation.

Numerous bizarre, non-standard weapons appeared across the battlefield, forged by the hands of Salamander artificers. Exercising their own tactical initiative, these artificers analyzed the Rangdans' vulnerabilities to engineer hyper-specialized weaponry: neuro-toxic darts rendered biological armor useless; phosphex-based weapons burned through internal structures; and molecular-disruption devices bypassed force fields entirely.

The Legion's arsenal evolved continuously, with the Salamanders investing immense resources into developing bespoke weapons and doctrine specifically tailored against the xenos threat.

The Rangdan were equally relentless. They deployed radiological weaponry on a massive scale to dissolve human soldiers, while their neutron-beam rifles proved capable of melting even Saturnine-pattern Dreadnoughts. Regardless of the carnage, both sides recognized a single, absolute truth: defeat was not an option.

On Planet IX, the battle remained fiercely locked. To prevent Ferrus Manus from directing the orbital warfleet, the Foul Savant launched relentless assaults, crashing against the Iron Hands like a boundless tide.

Yet the Iron Hands Legion possessed extraordinary resilience. The Nine Clans operated in seamless coordination, locked together like coastal reefs that stood immovable against the crashing waves. Highly mechanized, the Iron Hands pinned the Rangdan host outside the fortress, refusing to yield a single inch.

Recognizing the unique strategic importance of Planet IX, the Emperor personally dispatched his own bodyguard to help solidify the Iron Hands' defensive line. With the Legion's clans operating under independent tactical command, Ferrus was liberated to focus entirely on the void war above.

The void war was the most terrifying of all, with combat extending far beyond ship-to-ship duels.

A vast number of sunken warships had drifted together, their hulks coalescing under gravitational forces to form a colossal "iron planet" within the void. Deep inside this iron planet, the maze of wrecked warships became a battlefield of even greater cruelty.

Within the metallic corridors of the sunken vessels, surviving voidsmen and captains organized themselves spontaneously. Armed with lasguns and clad in carapace armor, they fought a desperate, life-or-death struggle against Rangdan thralls deep inside the warship graveyard.

Planet V was the absolute focal point of the entire J-11 System. Whether it was Ferrus or Solas, even as they commanded the grand fleet engagements across the sector, they were forced to direct a portion of their focus toward this world.

Planet V, situated at the innermost reach of the system, could not be allowed to fall. The entire war hinged upon it; a single misstep here would trigger a catastrophic domino effect, spelling total defeat for whichever side faltered.

Across this barren, stony planet, both factions had committed unimaginable forces. Beneath three Rangdan Overlords, three entire Rangdan tribes were deployed, fielding 700,000 elite Rangdan warriors. Their slave-thrall legions were beyond count, backed by endless war machines. Over a thousand Titans stood towering like a bone-white forest, overseeing the vast battlefield below.

The Imperial forces deployed were equally massive. Though slightly lacking in high-tier assets, their overall combat effectiveness was formidable. The Nur Elite Regiments were magnificently equipped, flanked by automata forces and a dizzying array of war machinery capable of drowning the Rangdan hosts in sheer volume.

Within the staging grounds of the war fortress, the atmosphere was hushed and grim, the earth trembling beneath constant artillery bombardments. Eight hundred Doom Marines were conducting final gear checks, preparing to face the impending clash.

The supreme war commander had issued the directive: the forces on Planet V were to launch a proactive offensive, aiming to shatter the current stalemate.

Throughout this white-hot war of attrition, the Imperium of Man had lost nearly half of its active military strength, leaving its rear reserves severely depleted. The Rangdan Empire faced an identical crisis, with vast numbers of juvenile conscripts appearing on the front lines—a clear sign that its strategic potential had reached its absolute limit.

It was time to take the initiative and end this fifteen-year deadlock. If this war of attrition dragged on any longer, even if the Imperium defeated the main Rangdan host, it would lack the remaining strength to push into the heart of the Rangdan Empire itself.

These eight hundred Doom Marines would serve as the tip of the spear, thrusting directly into the Rangdan fortress.

Blazkowicz stood at the head of the formation clad in his Praetor armor, his shoulder-mounted cannon slowly rotating through its calibration sequence while the retractable blade on his left arm extended to test its edge. He would personally lead this charge, guiding his most elite warriors to breach the heart of the Rangdan stronghold.

Failure was not an option. If this strike faltered, the resulting catastrophe would trigger a chain reaction that would collapse the entire J-11 System. Facing a battle that directly determined the survival of humanity, Blazkowicz had to don his armor and lead the charge himself.

"Move out!" he ordered. Turning to Harlan beside him, he said in a low tone: "The defensive line falls to the Night Wardens."

Stripped of his usual lighthearted demeanor, Harlan rendered a crisp warrior's salute, his gravelly voice sounding like a solemn oath: "The glorious Night Wardens will not allow a single xenos to cross this line."

Blazkowicz offered a nod of acknowledgment without further words, turning to board the mobile shield generator alongside his legionaries. The crushing weight of the war left little room for speech.

The Doom Marines' shock assault aimed to breach the Rangdan fortress and eliminate high-value targets, which would inevitably trigger a violent Rangdan counter-offensive. Facing 700,000 elite Rangdan warriors—a truly horrifying number—the pressure on the defensive line would be immense.

As the mobile shield generator rolled through the fortress gates, Harlan mounted his jetbike and sped toward the front lines.

The battlefield roared incessantly as countless shells slammed into the void shields, erupting in brilliant flashes of light. For many mortal veterans, the only reward for surviving was permanent deafness caused by the unceasing thunder of artillery.

Inside the fortress command center, Junior kept his eyes locked onto the holographic sand table. Watching the mobile shield generator roll out beyond the high perimeter walls, he checked the time, his voice laced with fatigue as he spoke:

"Activate the Genetic Degeneration Array at full capacity to wipe out the intelligence of the slave thralls. Cancel all rotation schedules for the elite regiments—place all units on maximum readiness to absorb the Rangdan assault."

"Have the remaining Legion brothers hold the line alongside the Night Wardens to solidify our defensive perimeter."

"Awaken the consciousness of three thousand Iron Men to serve as a rapid reaction force. Station them beside the teleporters, ready to deploy to the most intense local engagements at a moment's notice."

"Awaken all Iron Automata control cores and command the forge complexes to run at maximum output, replacing basic mechanical losses at top speed."

From the elevated command throne, as the Archon issued a stream of precise commands, countless directives were broken down and funneled to subordinate commanders. The continent-spanning war fortress was gradually rousing from its slumber.

"Warning! Warning! Warning!"

Mechanical alarms blared urgently as red warning lights flashed across the Rangdan command hall. The artificial intelligence rapidly reported the shift on the battlefield: "Unknown radiation indices spiking rapidly. Effect escalating and spreading to elite Rangdan warriors, inducing irreversible genetic degeneration."

"Energy readings inside the human fortress are climbing steadily. A vast number of dormant targets are activating, raising the threat assessment to maximum level."

As the AI's synthesized voice delivered its report, holographic projections formed rapidly, sketching out a series of dire tactical displays. Countless massive automated factories had powered up, greedily devouring raw materials to produce war materiel at maximum capacity. Underground bunker gates slid open as arrays of cybernetic automata marched out rank upon rank. Formations of unmanned tanks roared to life, while hovering pyramids released cloud-like swarms of combat drones.

The three Rangdan Overlords experienced intense psychic turbulence. Exchanging glances, a tacit consensus formed in their eyes in an instant—the final battle for Planet V had begun!

"Notify all units in the fortress: enter maximum war posture and launch a full-scale assault on the human lines."
