They said every girl in school wanted him.
Tall, smart, and effortlessly charming, Ayomide had only been in Gracewood High for three weeks, but he already had a fan club. Girls followed him with their eyes. Teachers praised his brilliance. Even the boys who should've been jealous somehow liked him too.
But Adesewa? She was different.
She'd seen boys like him before smooth talkers with a perfect smile and trouble hidden behind their dimples.
She didn't fall for things like that.
Or at least… she didn't plan to.
"Why are you staring at him like you want to fight him?" her best friend, Tomi, whispered, nudging her with a giggle.
"I'm not staring," Adesewa muttered, flipping her notebook open. "I'm observing. There's a difference."
"Yeah, yeah. Observing his cute face and broad shoulders," Tomi teased.
Adesewa rolled her eyes. "You lot are too easy. He's just a guy."
Tomi raised an eyebrow. "He's *that* guy."
It wasn't until later that day, when she forgot her journal in the library, that she saw him again alone, sitting exactly where she'd left her stuff.
Holding her book.
Reading it.
Her heart stopped.
That journal wasn't just notes. It was her poetry, her thoughts, her secrets.
"You're really good," he said without looking up. "Your words? They hit deep."
Her mouth went dry. "That's mine."
"I know. I didn't mean to pry. I saw your name… Adesewa. Beautiful name, by the way."
She reached for it, but he held it gently, not ready to let go just yet.
"I think you're more than what people see," he said. "More than what you let them see.
For the first time, Adesewa didn't have a reply.
Not a sarcastic one.
Not a clever comeback.
Just silence and a racing heart.
