Chapter 29 - CHAPTER 29

Workroom

When Miro showed off her strange ability to copy another member's drawing style exactly during the collab stream, it naturally blew up in the community.

[Live: "Copy Ninja Miro"]

(Miro redrawing in the exact same style she just saw)

(Maho looking flustered while watching the Gartic Phone results)

Wtf, is this even possible? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Maho's face after having her art style stolen, lmao.

That expression tho ㅋㅋㅋ

No but seriously, this isn't a hidden camera prank?

ㄴ Nope, nope. Miro just straight up copied it perfectly.

[What the hell is up with Miro?]

(Comparison of Miro's drawing and Maho's drawing)

How the hell does she "surpass the original" in a few minutes?

fr, watching live gave me chills

Honestly shocked at how good her drawing was ㅋㅋ

Wait, did Miro draw both of them?

ㄴ Nah, the right one is Maho's, left one is Miro's redraw.

ㄴ What kind of bullshit is that?

ㄴ Exactly what I said, dumbass.

Is there anything this chick can't do?

[Why Miro drew like total trash at the start]

(Miro's very first Gartic Phone drawing from the collab)

You can tell just from looking—she's drawn seriously before.

She probably drew badly on purpose at first so she wouldn't get identified, then copied other members' drawings afterward.

Yeah, makes sense

Whatever it is, she's clearly done some art before

Internet detectives, go dig it up already

What kind of "past life" is she hiding?

ㄴ Idiot, you're supposed to hide your past life

[What's the point of drawing well?]

(Miro running out of time and failing to finish typing her answer)

(Haru looking flustered at Miro's incomplete answer)

Can't even write properly ㅋㅋㅋ

lmaooo

But she still got it right ㅋㅋ

ㄴ fr?

ㄴ Yeah ㅋㅋ She ran out of time while analyzing the drawing, but guessed it correctly in words.

[Why people feel betrayed by Miro]

(Miro's avatar smiling brightly.jpg)

I thought she was just some girl with a nice voice…

Turns out she sings well, draws well, is pretty… she's got everything, fr.

Pretty my ass ㅋㅋ she's just a fat pig, don't worry

ㄴ lol you really think that voice comes from a neck stuffed with fat?

ㄴ If she were actually pretty, she'd have a boyfriend instead of sitting at home all day watching anime and drawing.

ㄴ Don't drop facts like that, asshole…

fr… she's just the goat…

Also talks well, 100%

ㄴ Eh, not really. She just says whatever she wants.

ㄴ And that's exactly what makes her good. Could you say whatever you want in front of thousands of people? That's a talent too.

ㄴ Not crumbling under pressure is something you're born with, yeah.

[But seriously, how do you mimic an art style after seeing it once?]

How good do you have to be to pull that off?

Kinda want to see Miro's real drawings.

Yeah, it's just a skill level difference

It's like a LoL pro instantly replicating a Bronze/Silver player's tricks

Someone donated and asked, but she said she won't draw in her real style 'cause she's afraid of being identified

ㄴ Why's she dodging? There's definitely something there

ㄴ Yeah, feels like she's hiding something for sure

ㄴ Miro's about to get exposed? ㅋㅋ

[Live: Maho collapsing ㅋㅋ]

(Miro instantly switches back to her own drawing style, Maho's avatar falls backward in shock)

Info: Maho has been drawing as a hobby for 10 years.

lmao she almost died right there

Imagine: 10 years of hobby art vs. 21-year-old Miro → ^rekt^

To be fair, Maho draws well too

It's just the difference between amateur and pro, simple as that

Thanks to all the attention being sucked up by Miro's drawing antics, the fanbase conflicts she had been worried about before the collab never even happened.

After the collab ended, Miro immediately went ego-surfing, then peacefully closed her eyes and fell asleep.

The day after the collab.

I recorded the part from Wonderland I had been practicing and sent it to Hyunsoo.

With a mix of anxiety and anticipation, I sent the file. Hyunsoo listened right away, and an hour later, his feedback arrived.

(Hyunsoo): I listened carefully. First, from ~ to ~, try lowering your tone overall and give it more of a "confessional" feeling. Also, from the end of ~ part to the start of ~, raising the notes gradually is good, but instead of a step-by-step climb, make it feel more like a leap upward…

"…What the hell is he talking about?"

A wall of feedback came in that was hard to wrap my head around.

I understood the "confessional feeling" part.

But the whole "step-by-step staircase vs. leaping upward" thing? What??

Is this what being a genius is?

Having a feeling you can't even explain in words?

Still, it was feedback, so I went to my vocal coach. Together we wrestled with it, trying to match what Hyunsoo wanted, and sent another recording.

But then…

(Hyunsoo): Thank you for applying my feedback. But in ~ part, here and then after that…

Another long block of feedback.

Again, I worked with my vocal coach and sent another recording.

(Hyunsoo): Really good, but… at the start of the opening part…

Yet another wall of feedback.

The requests were growing even longer than before. Feeling dizzy, I showed my vocal coach, who just chuckled and said:

"He's young and inexperienced. He knows the feeling he wants, but can't define it exactly. So every time he gives feedback, he finds something else unsatisfying."

"Then what do I do?"

"Well, the solution's simple: record your part so perfectly that even a perfectionist rookie like him will be satisfied."

"If I could do that, we wouldn't be here right now, would we?"

"Then… why not just go directly, record in person, and get real-time feedback until he says OK? That'll be easier."

"Ah… yeah, let's do that. I was curious about his studio anyway."

Thankfully, my veteran vocal coach gave me a clear solution. I decided to visit Hyunsoo's studio to record.

(Hyunsoo): You want to come to our studio?

(Me): Yes, I think recording there while getting feedback will work better.

(Hyunsoo): Alright then. I'll send you the location.

(Me): Great. I'll come tomorrow.

(Hyunsoo): Yes, that's fine. Ah, just so you know—some of my band hyungs and noonas might be at the studio too, so keep that in mind.

Band hyungs and noonas? Now that I thought about it, Slim Gold's music did lean toward a band sound.

I thought it was all digitally produced, but… were there actual band members involved?

(Me): Wait, isn't Slim Gold just one person??

(Hyunsoo): Well, yeah… but these guys help me out whenever I record.

(Me): Ah, I see. Got it.

With Hyunsoo's permission and the address in hand, I headed to his studio the next day.

"Hello."

Hyunsoo's studio, tucked underground in Gangnam, was much bigger than I expected.

I thought, since he's still a student, it'd just be some cheap basement rental…

But there wasn't even any dust. The floor was spotless.

Tables, a fridge, various instruments—everything was neatly kept.

"Oh, you're here!"

But instead of Hyunsoo, there was a woman inside.

Heavy makeup, bright red bobbed hair, piercings in both ears, and just visible above her V-neck, the edge of a tattoo.

At first glance she looked intimidating, but when she saw me she smiled and guided me inside.

"Heeey… you really are just as pretty as Hyunsoo said. I'm Kang Ah-young, the drummer who helps him out."

"I'm Kim Soo-hyun."

"How old are you?"

"Ah, I'm 21."

"Haha, then do you want to call me unnie? I'm 28."

"Ah, yes. Unnie."

Ah-young was the sociable type.

"Hyunsoo will be here soon. Here, have this."

She sat me on a soft couch inside the studio and handed me a bottled fruit drink.

"I heard you're recording Wonderland's part today, right?"

"Yes, that's right."

"Wow… that song's super hard, isn't it?"

"It is… that's why I came to get feedback in person."

"Figures. Hyunsoo can be really picky, huh?"

After some small talk, Ah-young sat across from me, sipping her drink and giving me a tour of the studio.

"See, that's the recording booth, over there's the practice room. Nice facilities, right? Even the bathroom's clean, and there's a lounge too."

"Wow… this is great."

That was pure admiration. The studio was spacious, clean, and far better than I'd imagined.

In my head, a basement studio was a dusty corner full of cobwebs and mildew. But I guess things are different these days.

"Right? And all of this is under Hyunsoo's name."

"What?"

"Hyunsoo's loaded. We're basically freeloading here, practicing and living comfortably thanks to him."

…Seriously?

Just one look and you could tell this place wasn't cheap. And a student owned it all?

My family's not poor either, but this… this was a whole other level.

"Shocking, right?"

"Yeah… pretty shocking."

"Thanks to Hyunsoo, our band can keep going easily."

"So, how did you end up working with him?"

I was curious. It looked like she'd been here a long time, but how exactly had a rich high-schooler ended up working with a band of people in their mid-to-late twenties?

"Well, that's…"

Ah-young was about to answer my curiosity when—

Bang.

"Sorry I'm late!"

The studio door opened, and Hyunsoo rushed in.

"That's enough for now."

Ah-young shrugged playfully and cut herself off the moment he arrived.

"What were you talking about?"

"Nothing~ just me keeping our guest company since the kid was late."

"Ah… sorry. I finished late today."

I finally looked properly at Hyunsoo.

Still in his school uniform, he looked out of breath, face dripping with sweat.

Running in this hot weather? Insane.

"It's fine. But hey—you're a student. Where's your bag?"

I gestured behind him. If he'd come straight from school, shouldn't he still have it with him?

"Ah… I left it at school. I came straight here to work."

"You could've stopped by home first."

He could've just pushed back the meeting, gone home, dropped his stuff, and come here comfortably. No need to rush.

"When I'm working, I just stay here at the studio."

"Ah, I see…"

If he's rich, then his house must be great too. And yet he chooses to live in the studio instead…

Though, I guess I shouldn't talk—after all, I left my family home behind to live alone too.

"Alright then… shall we start recording?"

"Yeah. Let's do it right away."

So we headed into the recording booth inside the studio.

Even if it was underground, the place was so spacious that I couldn't even imagine how much the deposit must have cost.

"Okay, you'll record here."

Still marveling at how nice the place was, I stepped inside the booth.

And so the real recording began.

As expected…

"Ah~ that was good, but this part…"

"That part was great, but here, try again…"

"Just now! That was good, but…"

"Can we do it one more time?"

"Okay, last time, but just change this part…"

The endless recording loop began.

I guess every singer goes through this to release a song.

…Probably.

Please tell me it's not just me.
