Synopsis
Hello. I’m starting to write again, this time in a Quest format. Those who know my ATLA fic already know how this goes.
This time, however, the stage is Westeros.
You, the reader, are not some lordling or knight reborn with a sword in hand. You are a ring.
A soul bound within a plain band of gold, slipped into the Seven Kingdoms one month before the events of the first season of GOT begin.
At first, you possess only two powers — Call and Whisper. You can draw others to pick you up, and you can speak to them. That is all.
Over time, as your bearer acts — whether in cunning, cruelty, valor, or folly — you may learn something of them. Their skills may echo within you. And if your bond deepens, you may pass such traits on to your next host.
Fall into the hands of a thief? You may learn to dampen sound and move unseen. A sellsword? You might grow keener in battle, even learn to harden a host’s skin like mail. A maester? Perhaps knowledge itself will cling to you.
There will be dice to decide how well your bearer survives each danger — and whether you do, too. Powers can mix, twist, and evolve, but remember this: you need hosts. Without them, you are just a ring in the dirt.
Sometimes, you will be forced to guide a host’s actions. Sometimes, you will want to. The line between whispering counsel and seizing control will blur.
I’m borrowing the core idea from Stewart92’s DC – The One Ring (which you can find on Spacebattles) and seasoning it with some D&D mechanics.
Disclaimer — I own nothing of A Song of Ice and Fire or Game of Thrones.
This is a tale that will be shaped by luck and your choices. Make kings wary, make queens paranoid, make smallfolk whisper, and above all… tell them nothing. Knowledge is your only blade for now. If their eyes turn to me, I’ll see this world unmade — and you along with it.
Have fun now.
