Chapter 8 - 8. Angela The Angel

It's quiet among the four of them; they're waiting for Angela to respond, and she does respond, but not in words but in laughter. She laughs and laughs and laughs. Like the three of them said, the most comedic thing she's ever heard. And then someone laughs with her, and that person is Wendy. JJ nudges her for her to stop laughing, and Wendy stops laughing at once, then apologises.

"Deep down you know it's true," Chris says to her, and she stops laughing immediately and stares at him. She doesn't know if she dislikes this guy or maybe she hates him.

"Oh, really, how do you know that?"

"On the day of the accident," which is something she doesn't want to relive. "You died, and when you died, you saw something. What did you see?"

At first, Angela scoffs, not wanting to answer this fraud, but then she remembers that she did indeed see something that day; she saw her dead body, her soul was out of her body, and she saw her dead body on the ground. And then she saw a halo falling from the sky toward her, and then all of a sudden her soul went back into her body.

"Exactly," Chris says when he notices her silence. "What you saw was an angelic halo. God uses it to create angels, but instead of using that halo to create an angel, he used it to turn a human into an angel. Which is you?"

"Awesome, right?" JJ says.

"So awesome!" Wendy says excitedly.

Angela thinks of a comeback or something to say, but she doesn't say anything; she just keeps her mouth shut. Because she's seeing that these people aren't joking at all, they're not some weird ass cult looking to recruit members, they're being for real.

"Think about it, you're stronger than you used to be, quicker, you see demons, and you have the power of invisibility and teleportation."

Angela shoots her head up at Chris. "What? I don't know about the invisibility part. I haven't experienced that."

"But you've experienced the others," Chris asks with raised brows.

Angela doesn't answer.

The way she broke the wood on her bed, her seeing things, teleporting from one place to the other. The sudden super strength she got after punching that demon.

He's right, all these strange things that have been happening to her, she understands why they're happening. She knows why they're happening. She is an angel.

She grew up catholic, so she knows about the things that have happened in the bible. Mexicans in general are very superstition, and they believe in the supernatural. She does believe in the supernatural and the things that happened in the bible were true, but she's never thought too much about it.

She's been too busy worrying about clothes, boys, her parents always arguing, and her art…her art. Could that be the reason why she always draws things from Christian symbolism?

The crosses, the weapons, the wings…the wings, does she have wings? Her dreams as well.

"Oh, holy, she's in shock, people, she is in shock," JJ says.

"We should take her to the institute," Wendy suggests.

"What's the institute?" asks Angela.

"It's a secret headquarters for nephilims."

"Of course it is."

"Alright, let's go. Father Guzman is waiting for us." Chris walks ahead of them.

JJ follows.

"Whoa hoo, a new friend!" Wendy says in ecstasy. Angela stands there for a while and then looks behind her at where the demon was killed.

Then she looks back at the hot nephilims who saved her from the demon.

A demon, she can see demons. And she's an angel. She doesn't think there's a story of God turning humans into angels.

There isn't, so why? Why her?

She finds herself following these strangers; she doesn't know why, but she trusts them.

She follows them to this Jeep Wrangler YJ.

"Hello, my precious." JJ plants a kiss on his car like she were his girlfriend.

"Bella, meet Angela, Angela meet Bella."

The old Angela would have rolled her eyes and called him a weirdo, but she's not that person anymore.

"Hey, Bella," she waves.

"She loves you already." JJ winks, and Angela can't help but smile. She likes J, J, she really does.

"Alright, everyone, you know the drill: get into the car in an orderly fashion, do not destroy anything, and keep your hands to yourself. I'm talking to you, Wendy."

"Oh my God, let it go, it was a long time ago."

"I'm afraid I can't, my friend, I still love you though." he gets into the car, Angela watches Chris, who gets in through the front seat. Angela walks in through the back seat with Wendy, who looks super excited."

Angela can't believe she's doing this, following these strangers to God knows where. She should be worried, but she isn't.

"So where is this institute exactly?' Angela asks.

"It's in a secret area, we can't have humans knowing about the place now, can we?" JJ answers, she doesn't know why, but she expects Chris to say something. But he just has his nose out the window. "Don't worry, Father Guzman will explain everything to you, you'll walk out a new woman."

Angela sits back on the car seat, and now she's looking out the window.

"Now let's turn up the music to lighten the mood." he turns up the volume, and he and Wendy hail at the song Jump by Kris Kross. They're the only ones singing and jumping. Angela just wants to get to the bottom of this, just like Chris; she also has her nose to the window.

JJ stops and parks his car in a parking lot, and they all get out of the car.

"I'll see you later, my love," JJ says, walking away from the car.

"Whoa, you really love that car, don't you?" Angela asks.

"Yes, she's my wife. I'm supposed to love her." JJ says dramatically, and Angela nods, smiling.

They're headed toward a church, and they get in, walking past a couple of pews. They're headed out back, and Angela has her eyes set on the cross in front of her. She has never really looked at a cross directly, but doing so now makes her feel… some kind of way she doesn't understand, like she's connected to it.

The gang stops in their tracks, and so does Angela.

"Alright, Angie, prepare to be amazed," JJ says, and Wendy jumps excitedly, and Chris just shakes his head. Angela just stands there, confused.

JJ begins to punch the numbers of… a safe? Angela doesn't know, but whatever he's typing has to do with the institute.

And she was right because right after JJ releases his hands, the walls open up, revealing a secret passage way, a passage way to the infamous institute for nephilims.

The Watchers Of Eden Institute.

"Abracadabra!" JJ sings dramatically, and Wendy claps her hands like what he did was actual magic.

Angela feels like she's about to step into a brand new world.
