Chapter 141 - CHAPTER-141

The café was warm, softly lit, and filled with the comforting scent of cocoa and roasted coffee beans. Outside, evening traffic hummed faintly, the sound muted by the glass walls and heavy curtains. Inside, the world felt slower and quieter, like a pause between two long breaths.

Alina sat across from Maya, both of them curled slightly over their cups of hot chocolate, hands wrapped around the warmth after a long, tiring day. The steam rose in soft spirals, fading into the air between them.

Maya studied her friend for a moment, noticing the way Alina was staring absently into her cup, lost somewhere far away in her thoughts.

"So… what's going on?" Maya finally asked, tilting her head.

Alina blinked, pulled back from wherever her mind had wandered. "Nothing," she replied, stirring the chocolate slowly. "I was just thinking… how I'm going to teach that grumpy king how to laugh."

"Grumpy king?" Maya repeated, then burst out laughing. "That's what you call him now?"

Alina shrugged, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "It suits him."

Maya shook her head, still amused. "That is perfect. 'Grumpy king.' I'm never calling him anything else in my mind again."

She took a sip of her drink, then leaned forward slightly, her eyes bright. "Oh, and I forgot to tell you—you were absolutely amazing."

Alina frowned slightly. "What?"

"I read your last episode," Maya said. "It was fantastic. I mean it. That scene where the guy who pretends to be cold and untouchable… is secretly standing alone, playing with a wind chime?"

Maya started laughing again, covering her mouth. "I could not stop smiling while reading that. It was so unexpected…."

Alina looked down at her cup, hiding a small smile.

"Your novel is going in the right direction," Maya continued. "It feels real. Like those characters are breathing somewhere."

Alina didn't answer, but her fingers tightened slightly around the cup.

"So…" Maya said after a moment, leaning back. "Any ideas about how you're going to bring your male lead—"

Before she could finish, Alina suddenly pushed her chair back and stood up.

Maya blinked. "What happened?"

Alina's eyes were shining now, as if a spark had just lit inside her mind.

"I just got an idea," she said quietly.

Maya raised an eyebrow. "Should I be scared?"

Alina laughed softly. "No. But I think my grumpy king is going to suffer a little."

What the world didn't know was that, at that very moment, plans far bigger than anyone could imagine were already unfolding. It was a surprise that Kai Arden had been preparing for weeks, perhaps even months.

The late-night shoots. The endless magazine cover sessions. The advertisements were filmed under glaring lights. The constant travel, the sudden location changes, the secrecy. All of it had been for this.

Kai wasn't a man who did things halfway. When he decided to do something, he executed it with precision, perfection, and silence. Tonight was the night everything would be revealed.

At multiple locations across the city, teams worked quietly in the dark. Banners were being installed. Massive billboards were being uncovered. Screens were being prepared for synchronized displays.

Everything was done in silence, under the cover of night, without leaks, without rumours, without even a whisper reaching the media. The fans had no idea. The newspapers had no idea. Even the industry had no idea. And that was exactly how Kai wanted it. Because surprises only worked when no one saw them coming.

It was around ten at night when everything was finally ready. Inside the house, the atmosphere was calm, almost ordinary. Kai stood in front of the mirror in his room, adjusting the cuff of his sleeve.

He was wearing a three-piece suit—perfectly tailored, his shirt was crisp, the collar perfectly aligned, and the dark tie added a quiet authority to his presence. He looked… striking. Not in a loud way. Not in a showy way. But in that calm, effortless way that made people look twice without understanding why.

His hair was slightly tousled, thick and dark, falling naturally into place, giving him that rare balance of elegance and danger. Kai looked at his reflection for a moment—not admiring himself, not criticizing—just observing. Then he reached for his watch.

Alina was passing by the hallway when she noticed the light in his room and the door slightly open. She slowed her steps, glancing inside. And for a moment, she simply stood there.

Kai was standing in front of the mirror, adjusting his blazer, the soft light outlining the sharp lines of his profile. He looked… breathtaking. Not that she would ever say that aloud.

"Party?" she asked, leaning lightly against the doorframe.

Kai glanced at her through the mirror. "Not exactly," he said.

"Then?"

"It's a surprise."

Alina folded her arms, studying him. "Looking at you right now… it seems like a huge thing."

Kai's lips curved faintly. "Indeed, it is."

She hesitated for a moment, then asked quietly, "Can I come along?"

Kai picked up his cufflinks, fastening them calmly. "In a few minutes," he said, "everyone will know about it. They'll reach the location soon. You can come with them."

Alina frowned slightly. "You mean… I'll attend it as your fan?"

Kai paused for half a second, then said simply, "Excuse me," And he walked past her.

"But—" she started, and he was already gone.

The hallway felt strangely quiet after he left. Alina stood there for a moment, staring at the space where he had been. She didn't know why, but something about his words left her feeling… alone. She turned and walked slowly to her room.

Closing the door behind her, she lay down on the bed, resting on her stomach, her hands folded under her chin. The ceiling fan spun slowly above her. Her mind wandered.

Should I go to Maya's place? she thought.

I don't want to stay alone tonight… She sighed softly, turning her face into the pillow. And just then, her phone rang. She picked it up. It was Maya. Alina blinked in surprise and answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Are you free tonight?" Maya's voice came through, bright and casual.

Alina smiled faintly. "I was just thinking about you."

"That sounds suspicious," Maya said. "What happened?"

"Nothing," Alina replied softly. "I was just… bored."

"Good," Maya said immediately. "Then come over."

Alina hesitated. "I don't know…"

"Don't think," Maya interrupted. "Just come. I made pasta, and if you don't show up, I'm eating all of it myself."

Alina laughed quietly. "I'll think about it," she said.

"No thinking allowed," Maya replied firmly. "Just come."

As the call ended, Alina stared at the phone for a moment, then sighed and sat up. The room felt too quiet and too still. And for reasons she couldn't explain… she felt restless.

Outside, the city lights were beginning to change. Screens flickered on. Billboards lit up. And somewhere, far away, the surprise that had been months in the making was about to begin.

The sharp ringing of her phone cut through the house's silence so suddenly that Alina flinched. For a moment, she just stared at the screen, her heart beating faster than it should have for something so ordinary. The house was unusually quiet tonight—no footsteps, no distant sounds of movement, no low voices from staff or the faint rustle of activity that usually filled the place. It was probably the first time since coming here that she truly felt… alone. She answered the call.

"Maya?"

"Where are you?" Maya's voice came quickly, almost breathless, as if she had been waiting for her to pick up.

"I'm at home," Alina said, sitting up on the edge of the bed. "Why? What happened?"

"I need you to come here," Maya said. "Right now."

Alina frowned. "What is it?"

"I'll tell you when you get here. Just come."

There was something in Maya's voice—excitement mixed with urgency—that made Alina's curiosity spark.

"I'm coming," she said. She ended the call and hurried out of her room.
