Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 The Hunt Begins

The Jakarta map on the red line office board is now filled with colored pins. The red pin marks the locations recorded in the "project unfinished" map "Mr. Daru. The black pin marks the location that is suspected to be the headquarters or point of activity of the eye cult closed, based on information from Anton and the police report distributed by Dr. Maya.

"We cannot pursue everything at once," Anton said, staring at a full map. "We need priority."

Bimo stood in front of the map, examining the record of Mr. Daru who was open in his hand. "Daru ranks each location based on the level of danger and relics. He marks three locations with red seals. That's the most dangerous."

"Anything?" Riani asked, approaching.

"First, the Jakarta History Museum in the Old City. Suspected storing a mirror from the VOC era used for communication with other worlds. Second, a private villa in Menteng. The owner is an antique collector, and he has a statue of a deity from a bronze suspected to be 'thirsty for blood'. Third," Bimo stops for a moment, "And this is the most obvious Asleep'."

"Gate?" Anton repeated. "Where is the gate?"

"Not explained," Bimo answered. "But if the eye cult is closed want it, it is definitely not for good things."

"So which one is the first to pursue?" asked Riani.

Before Bimo answered, the phone at Dr. Maya rang. He lifted it, his face immediately turned serious. "I understand. We're going there soon." He hung up the phone and turned to the others. "That was the police. The villa in Menteng you mentioned, Bimo. The owner was found dead this morning. The situation ... unnatural."

They all looked at each other. The cult has moved first.

"Vila Menteng," Bimo said in a firm voice. "That's our priority now. Anton, prepare the equipment. Riani, bring extra amulet. This is no longer just a lonely ghost."

The journey to Menteng feels tense. The villa is a magnificent building style art deco, surrounded by high fences. Some police cars have been parked in front. A forensic officer is talking to the inspector they know, Inspector Budi.

"Dr. Maya," welcomed the Budi Inspector. "And your consultant team. Very fast."

"We are examining similar cases," answered Dr. Maya gently. "Can we see the crime scene?"

Inspector Budi sighed. "Get ready. This is not a beautiful view."

The inside of the villa is luxurious but gloomy. Antique collections are scattered everywhere, from African masks to samurai swords. They were taken to the study room. There, a middle aged man dressed in silk lying on the floor. His face froze in an absolute terror expression. No physical wounds were seen.

"Heart attack?" asked Dr. Maya.

"Looks like yes," said Inspector Budi. "But look at this." He pointed to an empty podium in the corner of the room. "According to the maid, there is usually a small bronze statue. The statue of a god with a scary face. Now disappears."

Bimo watched the room. His death saw the remains of strong and dark energy. He also saw something else: A broken black thread, still floating in the air, connected to the empty podium.

"They have taken it," Bimo whispered to Riani. "Just now. The energy is still fresh."

"Do you see suspicious people?" Anton asked the inspector.

"No. The security system died a total of 3 am. There was no recording. Very professional."

Bimo walked toward the window. He looked at the back garden. A vague movement caught his attention. A man with a raincoat, even though it doesn't rain, is walking quickly leaving the villa through the back door.

"He's there!" Bimo shouted and immediately ran after.

Riani and Anton immediately followed him. They broke through the back door and entered a small alley behind the villa. The raincoat was almost reaching the end of the alley, towards a crowded highway.

"Bimo, wait!" shouted Anton. But Bimo is too far.

Bimo hunted the man. The man turned back, and Bimo saw the eye symbols a small closed pinned on his collar. The man entered a busy bus station.

Bimo followed him, trying not to attract attention. The man climbed into a city bus. Bimo followed, paying the cost quickly and sat a few rows behind him.

Riani and Anton, who were left behind, could only see the bus going.

"Unlucky!" curse Anton. He immediately called Dr. Maya. "Doc, Bimo is trailing a suspect alone. He takes the bus ... The destination is unclear."

On the bus, Bimo watched the raincoat man. The man was not aware of being followed. He went down in the harmony area and walked quickly to a quiet old shopping center.

Bimo followed him from a distance. The man did not enter the mall, but turned into a service door next to the building. He knocked on a certain code, and the door opened.

Bimo cannot enter the same way. He is looking for another way. He found an air ventilation next to the building. With his strength, he melted the locking bolt with the touch of a heated finger and opening his pimples.

He climbed into the narrow and dark ventilation hallway. He creeped, following his instincts on the relics of the man that the man brought. The hallway ended in a surveillance hole facing a large room underground.

Bimo peeked. The room is an old warehouse that has been converted into an emergency temple. A dozen people in black robes gather around a leader holding a small bronze statue that has just been stolen by the statue of Dewa with a gaping mouth and a hollow eyes.

The leader, who was not the leader of Villa Menteng, raised the statue high.

"With this second relic, the road is increasingly open!" he exclaimed. "His energy will strengthen our master! Soon, the gate in Senen will open, and the true darkness will envelop the world!"

The worshipers cheered. Bimo frowned. Second relic?* That means they have gotten another one. And they are targeting the Senen tunnel the sleeping groan.

Bimo must warn the others. He reached into his cellphone for his cellphone, but there was no signal underground.

He has to get out. He began to creep backwards, but his feet accidentally nudged a loose pipe. The sound of a loud tent echoed in a narrow ventilation hallway.

The voice stopped. Everyone in the lower room was silent.

"Who is there?" growled the leader.

Bimo stopped moving, trying not to make a sound.

Two worshipers walked towards the ventilation hole, pointing their flashlight.

"It is there!" shouted one of them.

Bimo knew he was caught. He has no choice. He pushed out of the ventilation hole with strength, landing with rolling on the warehouse floor.

He immediately stood up, the white fire was burning in his hand.

"Child Fire!" shouted the leader, eyes widened in surprise and angry. "You dare to follow us to here? Catch him!"

Dozens of worshipers forward surrounded him. Bimo is ready to fight. He made a fireball at them, dropped several people, but the others continued to approach, their eyes were black and empty.

The leader holds a bronze statue. "With the name that eyes are closed, I command you, get up and serve!"

The bronze statue began to tremble. Black smoke steams from her eyes and mouth which is perforated, forming a dark humanoid figure with a long claw and a head -like head. The monster roared and lunged at Bimo.

Bimo avoided, rolling to the side. The monster's claws scratched the concrete floor, leaving deep marks. That's strong.

Bimo threw a burst of fire at the monster. The fire burned part of the smoke, but the monster immediately reshaped himself. It's immune to ordinary fire.

Meanwhile, the worshipers continue to approach. Bimo was pinched.

Suddenly, the main warehouse door opened in a creaking voice. Riani and Anton stood there, along with several uniformed policemen led by Inspector Budi.

"Police! Don't move!" Shouted Inspector Budi.

Riani immediately acted. He created a big illusion: the sound of shots and dazzling lights. The worshipers panicked and were confused, giving the police the opportunity to enter and began to hold them.

The cult leader was angry. "No! Failed!"

He turned to escape through the back door, still carrying the statue.

"Bimo, chase him! We take care of the one here!" Anton shouted, threw a bottle of holy water at the smoke monster, which screamed in pain.

Bimo jumped over the worshipers who were being arrested and chased the leader. They entered the labyrinth of the dark warehouse hallway.

The leader is more familiar with this place. He turned, trying to outwit Bimo. But Bimo does not rely on ordinary vision; He followed in the footsteps of the dark energy of the statue.

They finally arrived at a dead end. The leader was cornered. He turned around, his face was full of hatred.

"This is no use," he hissed. "You have lost. We already have two relics. Only one more thing is needed to open the gate!"

"What is the gate for?" Demanding Bimo, approaching slowly.

"To wake Him completely!" shouted the leader. "The world will be a living nightmare, and we will be the ruler!"

He lifted the statue, preparing to say the spell again.

Bimo did not give him a chance. He didn't throw the fire. He rushed forward and grabbed the statue from the hands of the leader.

"Don't!" screamed the leader.

Once Bimo touched the statue, a strong electric shock electrocuted. The dark energy of the statue tried to enter his mind, trying to control it. Bimo bit his teeth, concentrating his white fire inside himself, purifying his own energy. He forced the fire to flow through his hand and into the bronze statue.

The statue shook violently in his hand, then broke into pieces. A scream that was not from this world was heard, and the black smoke that formed the monster in another room immediately disappeared.

The leader screamed in frustration and fell into his knee. "No ... you destroyed it ..."

The police immediately entered and handcuffed him. Inspector Budi looked around. "Are you okay, Bimo?"

Bimo nodded, rubbing sweat from his forehead. "Yes. But we have a big problem."

"What else?"

"They have got two relics. They only need one to open something called the 'gate' in the Senen tunnel. And we don't know what the third relic is, or where."

They returned to the red line office with a grim atmosphere. They succeeded in thwarting the ritual and arrested many cult members, but they lost in the hunting of heritage.

Bimo took Pak Daru's map. He saw three locations bearing the red logo. The Jakarta History Museum and the Senen tunnel are still on the map. Menteng villa has been completed, but the relics have been destroyed.

"This cult moves faster than us," Bimo said. "They know exactly what they are looking for and where to look for it. They must have a source of information from within."

"Or," said Riani, "they also have someone who can read a red line like you."

Bimo looked at him. That is a terrible thought. If the enemy has the same ability, then every step they can be anticipated.

"We have to secure the next museum," Bimo said finally. "Jakarta History Museum. Tomorrow morning, we will go there. We must get the mirror before them."

But even when he said it, a bad feeling clinging to him. It feels like a race that they have left behind, and the bet is everything.
