Chapter 1 - Ashes in the Sky

According to official announcements, the ISEA confirmed that the asteroid "Aetherion" also catalogued as Kairo-47 had burned up successfully in the upper atmosphere. However, reports noted a high probability of small fragments reaching the Earth's surface.

For further clarification, the president of ISEA, Dr. Elias Richter, addressed the world in a televised statement:

"As we all know, the asteroid made its entry yesterday. It is truly an exceptional incident. Unlike other celestial objects, our instruments could not detect its presence until three days prior to arrival, largely due to its mysterious radiation signature. However, I want to assure the public that there will be no hazardous effects on human life. Some fragments ranging from pebbles to football-sized pieces may strike remote areas in Japan and the United States, but our analysis indicates they will not cause significant harm. If anything unusual is discovered, we advise citizens to contact their nearest ISEA branch immediately."

[Television clicks quietly in the background]

"Hey, son. Do you know much about this asteroid thing? You're always interested in space, right?" Ren's father asked while folding the evening newspaper.

"Not really… I guess we'll be lectured about it tomorrow, since vacation just ended," Ren muttered with a yawn, sliding back from his laptop. His rectangular glasses slipped down the bridge of his nose, giving him a tired, almost absent-minded look.

From the kitchen came his mother's voice, warm and firm:

"Ren, if you've finished your work, go get some sleep. It's already late, and you'll be late for campus in the morning."

She was carefully preparing ingredients for tomorrow's meal, hoping to pack a small box of food for her son to share with his classmates after the long one-month holiday.

Ren sighed and closed his laptop. The silver moonlight streamed through the thin curtains of his room, spilling across the desk like flowing crystal water.

Lying down on his bed, he stared at the ceiling, his mind drifting.

"What will happen tomorrow? …Guess it'll just be the usual," he thought.

Within minutes, his eyes grew heavy. The faint afterimage of the blazing asteroid lingered in his thoughts as he drifted into sleep, the world outside unaware that tomorrow would be anything but ordinary.
