The daylight lied.
The scorching sun poured into the farmhouse as if all we were going through wasn't enough t torture.. As if blood had not soaked into the floorboards. As if eighty of us weren't standing on the bones of the one hundred and twenty who had failed to make it this far.
Morning birds sang.
The audacity of it made my chest tighten.
We stepped out cautiously, one group at a time, scanning the tall grass for movement. Every rustle made fingers twitch toward claws. Every shadow felt like a watching eye.
Thankfully my wolf senses had heightened since the duel in Atlas City.
The farmhouse door shut behind us on its own.
I didn't look back.
Alpha Drey split us into teams quickly efficiently. His dark hair flipped, and his toned muscles made my heart beat. Under such moments I was admiring a man.
