Chapter 5 - Survival in the woods.

The hall erupted in chaos the moment I stepped through the doors.

My eyes scanned quickly trying to see if my partners were safe and who had betrayed us.

I recognized one of our men in suits shooting at another of our undercover agents and this confirmed who the traitor was. Sounds of fun could be heard as we kept on running and dodging bullets.

My partner held my arms tightly and brought out a gun "protect yourself with this".

My head kept spinning with thoughts of what I've gotten myself into while someone dropped dead beside me I could see his eyes as life was snuffed out.

I shook in fear not knowing where to run to or escape but my partner reassured me we were going to get out of here.

I saw Anita shooting like a professional trying to take down some of us that were discovered and we had to get out of there because if they were captured and tortured they would rat us out.

A shot rang out. One of the masked men staggered, collapsing. I thought he was about to die but then his body convulsed, bones snapping and fur sprouting across his skin. In an instant, he was no longer human but a snarling wolf with brown fur and red eyes.

This was real my leg gave out as I fell in shock what I had seen that day was in fact not my imagination but a real thing. This was a werewolf. I've read a lot of fantasy books on them. I never thought they'd exist in real life.

More people began to change into wolves, other wolves in the hall howled in fury, their red eyes locking onto the rest of us that didn't change as if we were food or their enemies.

I got up. I had to leave this place running with a burst of adrenaline, my heart hammering.

The hall seemed endless, as I tried to hide from any snarling sound I heard.

I cocked my gun for the first time in my life.

I saw shadow twisting with every corner I turned. And then a horrific realization hit me, I couldn't find my partner. I had run away with fear when I saw a human wolf.

Hiding behind a wall I caught a glimpse of him being dragged down and bitten in his neck by a wolf that was very big.

He stood out from the other wolves I've seen.

His fur had strips of red mixed with black.

My eyes widened in terror as he tore him open and I had no choice but to keep running, tears blinding me, rage and grief sharpening my focus.

I wanted to shoot that wolf and kill it with everything in me but I knew I had never shot a gun before and If I missed I'd be torn just like him.

I didn't realize I had already stepped out of the building as I kept running, then heavy rain started pouring down the woods I had run into, thunder ripping across the sky like the ones that always haunted my dreams. The mud sucked at my shoe, branches clawed at my arms, but I couldn't stop.

Behind me, a white shape emerged through the shadows, a wolf, its eyes glowing with relentless fury.

It had followed me out. The wolf wasn't just hunting it was tracking me with terrifying intelligence, moving with speed that made my sprinting feel useless. My vision blurred as the rain poured, making me stumble over the roots, twisting my ankle. I winced in pain, my breath ragged, my body already burning cold.

Every instinct screamed to get up, hide,I must survive. This creature was relentless, closing the distance with each heartbeat.

I began to panic. Somewhere deep inside, I knew I had to confront this, or I'd become prey tonight, alone in the forest, under a storm that matched the terror clawing at me.looking around if I could see anything then I remembered my gun I held it firmly aiming for when it would come out for me.

The white wolf's glowing eyes locked onto me, muscles coiled, ready to spring. Its low growl rumbled through the woods mixed with lighting flashing In the woods, a sound that vibrated in my chest.

My fingers tightened on the trigger,

It lunged. I fired instinctively. The shot rang out, echoing through the forest, the bullet hit the wolf shoulder but the wolf twisted mid-air, barely slowed. The ground shook as it landed, snarling at me with more fury.

It circled me waiting to bite or devour. My life flashed before my eyes as I saw my mother and I running through the forest and the image of her lying in a vegetative state overlapped.

I had one choice: fight or run, but running had already brought me here.I picked a branch of wood to attack it first as it bit my arm but I struck a spot I saw bleeding.

It seemed the gunshot earlier had injured it so I struck the spot making it moan in pain releasing my arm that was bleeding and soaked. I had to hold my ground at least for now.

I was in pain but my eyes stayed sharp.

Every fiber of my being was alert, calculating, searching for the next move. The woods seemed to close in, shadows twisting with the rain as it had become darker, but I refused to become prey.

Then, above the roar of the storm, I heard a low, commanding growl, like another wolf had appeared in this place, his growl different from that of the white wolf's.

It was filled with control and caused me to stiffen with fear, making my heart skip.

Then, a massive wolf appeared. It was that same wolf with black and red fur glistening, eyes glowing with a terrifying intelligence. I had swore to kill this wolf if we ever crossed paths again but now I knew I couldn't take on two wolves.

The white wolf, snarling and ready to lunge at me again, froze mid-step, as if awaiting orders from this newcomer. Bowing itself as Its growl softened toward the bigger wolf, almost like recognition and submission.

I seized the moment of calm, my hands steadying the gun despite the pounding of my heart. I aimed carefully and fired another shot at the white wolf. The bullet struck true, and the creature yelped in pain, staggering backwards I wasn't going down with a fight.

The wolf charged at me this time with anger and I fell waiting for it to devour me but the black-and-red wolf out a low, commanding growl.

The white wolf froze , snarling but clearly submitting, its pain and anger momentarily forgotten as it let go of me. The larger wolf pressed its paw gently against the white wolf's injury, and the smaller one whimpered, both of them retreating into the shadows, leaving me trembling and alone.

Rain poured over me, thunder cracking overhead, and somewhere in the distance, the wail of sirens pierced the storm. My chest heaved as I tried to process what had just happened, but exhaustion and shock were too strong. My vision blurred and the world slipped away.

I passed out, unsure of what came next…

When I opened my eyes, the first thing I noticed was the blinding whiteness. The walls, the floor, even the light itself seemed too bright.

My arm throbbed with pain, my muscles ached, and the memory of the forest came rushing back. The rain, the wolves, the growl of the black-and-red wolf clashed violently with the calm of this room.

I tried to sit up, but exhaustion pinned me down as I had splitting headaches. The silence was almost unnatural, broken only by the faintest hum, as if the room itself were alive.

This meant that someone had intervened, though who, I couldn't tell. My chest tightened with uncertainty and relief tangled together, leaving me disoriented, trembling, and utterly aware that I had survived.

But before I could piece together anything else or even take a full breath darkness crept back at the edges of my vision, dragging me down into unconsciousness again.
