Chapter 10 - Poverty is Real

He wanted to pull out his glorious red hair. He really did.

He was skimming a lot, so he hadn't really absorbed a lot of things, including the requirements. He didn't like reading, and he was in a rush, after all.

Now, he had no choice but to look again, reading the descriptions and making sure he didn't miss any more information.

So…he apparently needed 300 gold and 300 Hearth Points.

He might have 2000 of the so-called 'Hearth Points' as rewards from the missions, but what about gold?! He was literally thrown in here—he didn't even have a wallet on him before he was thrown out the ship's railing —where would he get all that gold?

Would he die in the end because of poverty?! Wtf?

Then, fortunately, his brain came in clutch and he remembered the [Credit Line] he had ignored earlier! He immediately opened the inventory, and a familiar translucent box appeared in front of him.

Other than his change of clothing, there was a little red envelope inside the space. It reminded him of how his former boss handed him his salary. He took it and saw it had a red seal, opening it without another thought.

[Would you like to avail the Credit Line? You will receive 1000 Gold.]

[Note: Once received, the gold lent cannot be used to pay debt. Interest rate is 1% a day.]

"..."

He had honestly forgotten what it felt like to be debt poor. Even if he spent his money on building the restaurant, he still had enough to live by.

Since he got a stable job, in fact, he always had enough to live on. He had a simple lifestyle, anyway.

Now, he is destitute. No, debt-ridden.

That said, debt-ridden was better than dead.

He borrowed money with gritted teeth, cursing the world for being so greedy.

[Gained! 1000 Gold and a lot of stress]

[New Personal Quest Received!]

[Active Mission: Pay your Debts!]

Information: Pay your loan and the accumulated interest within 1 year.

Time Limit: 1 Year]

Punishment 1: -1 year lifespan for every unpaid gold after the time limit.]

"..."

Fugg, so greedy!! This meant that, even if he left behind 50 out of a thousand gold, he was pretty much still dead!

[Punishment 2: The remaining debt will be passed on to your descendants, closest kin, or converted into negative karma to your next life.]

If Finn's arms weren't so sore, he'd have really grabbed his own hair in annoyance.

Anyway, did he even have a choice?!

Anyway, without further ado, he clicked on the [BUILD MODE] to start the mission. He was so close. What if he ended up dying because he clicked so slowly?

[Purchased! Basic Building! -300 gold, -300 Hearth Points]

[Please Choose Your Arrangement]

[Note: Removing rooms and rebuilding will incur the same, or higher, costs]

In front of him appeared a 3D plan of his options. They were all using a cozy wood-and-stone design. It reminded him most of his parents' inn, though he had to arrange the rooms first.

The note said that it'd be too costly to change things, so he couldn't—and wouldn't—place the rooms randomly.

Fortunately, while he didn't have much time, he did know enough to make decent circulation. For the first seven years of his life, he lived in an inn, after all. He dared to say that even when they were countryfolk, the space itself was designed well.

This shell had three basic bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a toilet for him to play with, and they honestly weren't that difficult to place.

He simply placed the amenity rooms in front and the bedrooms at the back, with the toilet accessible to both zones. Interestingly, some space was unbuildable right in front of the door, so that was probably for another requirement—the 'registration point', perhaps?

[Please choose a location]

After a thought, he decided to choose the middle of the lot. He had no time to plan more than this, but he was sure he could make things work later.

After he confirmed this, the 'screen' dissipated in front of him. A heavy huff sound echoed a second later, and a rectangular imprint appeared precisely where he decided to locate the building.

Next, stone foundations appeared. Then soon the rest of the structure appeared, from the floor, the walls, to the roof.

He had wondered how it'd be built in five minutes. Now, he saw it…he understood.

And it was fascinating.

Anyway, Finn refused to waste these five minutes of building time by staring. He didn't forget to read the instructions while waiting, recalling that there were other requirements to complete the quest.

After knowing what was included in the purchase of the building shell, he knew that there were still a few things he did not have. Based on the quest info, he still needed to buy a 'point of registration' and a 'magic barrier'.

Using these five minutes, he skimmed through his 'buildables'.
