New York, Manhattan District, TCRI Research Building.
As the Foot Clan's brand-new stronghold, the alien invasion plan led by the recently escaped Shredder was being pushed forward at full speed.
Boom—!
Suddenly, the weather shifted dramatically.
A blue beam of energy shot upward from the transmitter atop TCRI, blasting into the sky like a cannon shell and exploding within the clouds, sweeping across the heavens above Manhattan.
The clouds, affected by the energy beam, expanded rapidly, darkening and forming a vortex.
At the center of the vortex, it looked as if it connected to another space. Judging by the signs, something was about to emerge from within the clouds.
Crackle—crackle—!
Dense lightning and blue energy flickered continuously within the dark clouds.
The people of New York all felt an unusual atmosphere. Their hearts raced, unease rising within them.
They looked up at the cloud mass expanding outward from Manhattan across nearly all of New York, and they felt an ominous premonition about what was about to happen next.
…
A hotel.
Nick Fury heard the commotion outside the window. Through the glass, he saw the dark clouds gathering in the sky and witnessed with his own eyes the indescribably terrifying energy converging above.
Just as Phil had said earlier—the opening of a spatial gateway was underway!
And the hand behind that space gateway… was an alien force unbelievable yet undeniable!
"A psychic transmission device!"
The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., the one-eyed black egg himself, Nick Fury's face darkened.
He knew the situation had escalated to the worst-case scenario he had envisioned. It was already too late to take action against the Foot Clan now.
Mainly because only a few hours had passed before the Foot Clan took such extreme measures.
This had far exceeded Fury's expectations.
"Found it!"
Natasha pushed open the door, expression grave, and approached Fury.
"TCRI Research Building."
She reported, "We tracked the energy signature that was just released. The Foot Clan is inside the TCRI building!"
"Send every available agent. We must shut down the psychic transmission device and stop the Foot Clan from drawing aliens onto Earth!"
Fury spoke in a low voice.
After a pause, he added, "Also, inform Tony—New York is in danger. S.H.I.E.L.D. needs support."
"Understood!"
Natasha nodded. "Hawkeye has already headed there. Coulson is gathering personnel to break into TCRI in one strike…"
Then she shifted topics. "Should we contact Anton?"
Contact Anton?
Fury understood what she meant.
She was suggesting they call Batman.
To ensure nothing went wrong, of course they should inform Batman.
Though judging by what was happening, even if they didn't tell him, Batman would never fail to notice that New York was in crisis.
After all—the intel about the aliens had come from Batman in the first place.
"No need."
Fury thought for a moment, then shook his head. "If S.H.I.E.L.D. can handle this, Batman doesn't need to appear. But if S.H.I.E.L.D. can't handle it… Batman will not stand by."
"Understood!"
Natasha obeyed the order, then met up with Coulson, gathered every agent available in New York, jumped into the vehicles, and sped toward the destination at full throttle.
…
Meanwhile, inside the TCRI building.
"We did it!"
Shredder's expression was borderline manic.
The successful operation of the psychic transmission device had already allowed him to imagine the scene of the alien Krang using the Technodrome to occupy Earth—and himself ruling the world afterward.
"Yes, we did it!"
Baxter Stockman chimed in, the excitement on his face no less intense than Shredder's.
"Once the energy reaches peak levels, the space-time gate will fully open, and the Technodrome will be able to cross through and arrive on Earth… the sight will be magnificent."
Stockman laughed heartily. "This is the miracle I created! Galileo, Newton, Einstein—none of them will match what happens here! From now on, I'll be the number one name in the history of science!"
Shredder glanced at him but said nothing.
Boom—!
Above their heads, the dark clouds grew even thicker. Thunder and lightning rumbled continuously.
Under the horrified gaze of the public, the blue energy converged into a single point before exploding outward in all directions.
Boom!
The shockwave followed the burst of energy, forming a violent gale that swept across every corner of New York.
The Hudson River rolled with massive waves.
Near the coastline, waves dozens of meters high rose in the sea.
Cruise ships rocked violently.
Tourists on board wore looks of panic.
Everyone could see something emerging from the swirling vortex within the dark clouds.
"It's starting!"
Shredder watched the shifting clouds, knowing that the pieces of the Technodrome were arriving on Earth in a "fragmentation-to-integration" process.
Beep beep beep beep—!!
Alarms sounded throughout the TCRI building.
"Someone has broken in!"
Karai heard the alarm, checked the surveillance feed, and discovered that at the entrance, a man carrying a bow had already broken into the building at high speed.
The Foot Clan's thugs were no match for him—not even for a single round.
"Master Shredder!"
Karai's expression tightened. "We're exposed. Batman might come. And those four turtles…"
"Don't panic."
Shredder's face remained unmoved as he looked at two vials of purple serum. "This is a serum Krang gave me. It grants superhuman abilities."
"Uh…"
Stockman shook his head. "I'm just a researcher. You're not sending me into combat, are you?"
"Do we not have test subjects?"
Shredder sneered coldly.
He turned his gaze toward the two small-time punks locked in a cell nearby—accidentally transported along with the psychic transmission device.
Bebop and Rocksteady.
The very ones who would become the rhino and warthog mutants in the Ninja Turtles storyline.
Watching all this through Cyborg's monitoring, Anton's lips curled slightly with a hint of sentiment.
Fate was indeed strange.
With just a slight nudge from Anton, events would unfold in the direction he remembered.
…
Soon after—
Hawkeye quickly cleared the enemies on the first floor. Just as he was about to take the elevator to the top, two towering humanoid beasts charged toward him with earthshaking force.
Calling them "beasts" wasn't entirely accurate.
More precisely—they were "animals."
"Rhino? Boar?"
His eyes widened. He felt as though he had entered a zoo.
The boar and the rhino sprinted at speeds far beyond human capability, shaking the ground beneath them, cracking the floor with each heavy step.
Then, at full momentum, both of them rammed straight into Hawkeye with brutal force.
Bang!
Hawkeye's body flew out like a discarded rag doll, smashing a large hole through the wall behind him and landing sprawled out in the street.
At this moment, over a dozen black vehicles sped over.
Screech—!
Tires skidded, leaving dark black streaks on the pavement.
Hawkeye opened his eyes.
Natasha stepped out of one of the cars, glanced down at him.
"I'm going to pretend I didn't see that."
She spoke while her colleagues—who had all stepped out of their cars—awkwardly looked away.
"Ahem!"
Hawkeye knew his reputation had just taken a serious hit.
"The enemies aren't simple!"
He squeezed the words out between his teeth.
Boom!
Rhino and Boar smashed through the hole Hawkeye had created, stepping onto the sidewalk, steam snorting from their massive nostrils.
"Uh… not simple indeed."
Natasha froze.
She had never expected Hawkeye's "not simple" to mean this.
Recently, New York had practically become a zoo.
Bats, spiders, turtles, lizards, octopuses—and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s thorough investigations had uncovered even unknown mutant rats…
And now two more animals had joined the list.
A rhino and a boar!
Why was everyone turning into animals?
Was mutation suddenly a trend?
Wild thoughts flashed through Natasha's mind before she refocused and motioned to her teammates.
"Move fast!"
She said sternly, "We don't have much time!"
"Understood!"
…
Inside TCRI.
Top floor.
Eddie lingered in a small shadowed corner, taking in everything that was happening, and was amazed by the appearance of Rhino and Boar.
But it still wasn't his time to act.
Having spoken in detail with Anton, Eddie knew the full plan.
Anton was certain S.H.I.E.L.D. had no chance of stopping the Foot Clan.
With Krang helping them, just Rhino and Boar alone were enough trouble for S.H.I.E.L.D.—not to mention the Technodrome parts continuously entering the Earth through the portal.
Eddie remained calm because everything was happening exactly as Anton predicted.
Meanwhile, Cyborg monitored New York's entire digital network, communicating with him through a Bluetooth earpiece.
"I've already accessed the Technodrome's central database. Once it fully enters Earth, I can seize control of it from Krang."
Cyborg instructed Eddie, "Don't act rashly. Let S.H.I.E.L.D. handle the Foot Clan first. When they're beaten back, that's our cue. It's time for New York—and the entire world—to learn of the Justice League's existence!"
"Don't worry. I'm way more reliable than Phil."
Eddie patted his chest.
It was worth noting that Anton hadn't hidden the events in Brazil from Eddie.
While Eddie didn't fully agree with Cyborg's "clean-up" methods, Cyborg's actions were done for the sake of rescuing Phil…
And Phil was Eddie's apprentice.
So Eddie accepted it.
Besides, Cyborg was the one who killed—Batman wasn't involved. It had nothing to do with Anton.
And from a strategic perspective, Cyborg hadn't been wrong.
Of course, in Anton's opinion, whether Eddie liked Cyborg was irrelevant.
As long as teammates could follow orders and work together, personality differences didn't matter.
"Eddie, it's Anton."
Suddenly, Anton's voice came through the earpiece.
"Eddie here!"
"Leave the TCRI building immediately. Cyborg detected Tony Stark entering New York—he's heading straight toward your location."
Anton continued, "Tony's AI butler, JARVIS, is attempting to interface with TCRI's network. It may detect you. You've done enough. Join us when the time comes. For now, leave the fighting to them."
"Understood!"
Eddie nodded.
In the next second, Venom extended tendrils from his back, slipped through a half-open window, and leapt from nearly two hundred meters up.
Whoosh!
As he fell, Eddie's expression remained blank—almost enjoying it.
At the last moment, a tendril shot from his back like a fired bullet, striking the rooftop of a nearby building and pulling him across like Spider-Man's web.
Soon—
Eddie disappeared from the area.
Whoosh!
A few minutes after Eddie left, a red streak flashed through the sky, descending toward the building.
"Foot Clan members: their leader Shredder, the kunoichi Karai… and the creator of the psychic transmission technology, Dr. Baxter Stockman. They're all inside."
JARVIS' voice echoed inside Tony's helmet.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are attacking the building. A rhino and a boar are blocking their path."
"Rhino? Boar?"
Tony paused. Seeing JARVIS project the footage before his eyes, his mouth twitched.
He also started to feel like New York had turned into a zoo.
Boom—boom—boom—!
Above him, the parts of the Technodrome drifted through the air as they passed from the other side of the portal.
"So that's an alien?"
Tony murmured, surprised—but quickly grasped the seriousness.
An alien invasion.
This was a world-shaking event!
Compared to aliens, things like the Green Goblin, the Lizard, Doctor Octopus—those supervillain incidents—were child's play.
"Try connecting to their network."
Tony spotted what looked like network nodes on the drifting parts. Narrowing his eyes, he instructed, "Decrypt the data… I want to know exactly what this thing is!"
Soon—
Lines of information appeared before his eyes.
"The Technodrome."
Tony murmured, his expression darkening. "A war machine—an alien super-battleship. Its commander is named Krang…"
Ring ring—!
His thoughts were interrupted by a call from Fury.
"Tony, what's your situation?"
After connecting, Fury asked gravely, "S.H.I.E.L.D.'s assault is being blocked. You must close the portal immediately."
"I know."
Tony replied and ended the call.
According to JARVIS' monitoring, most of the Technodrome had already entered Earth. The initial assembly was almost complete.
Time was running out.
There could be no further delay.
Whoosh!
Jets exploded behind him.
He shot downward like a falling star, heading straight for Shredder's floor.
Boom!!!
But just as Tony was about to enter the floor, a beam of energy fell from the sky and struck him head-on.
"Damn!"
Tony's expression changed.
His suit lost power, and he plummeted from nearly two hundred meters up.
S.H.I.E.L.D. agents below watched him fall like a stone—faces full of fear that one of their greatest assets was about to crash to his death.
Fortunately, Tony regained control just before hitting the ground, then rocketed back upward.
This time, his target was the Technodrome above.
JARVIS told him all parts of the Technodrome had already passed through the portal.
Shutting down the psychic transmission device would no longer matter.
The key now was the alien controlling it all.
"Krang!"
Tony murmured, then—under countless watching eyes—shot into the spherical Technodrome.
Meanwhile, hidden within the robot he was piloting, Krang watched Iron Man charge in and let out a disdainful laugh.
Boom!
An energy cannon blasted Tony, hurling him back out of the Technodrome the same way he had entered.
Seeing this, not only New Yorkers, but even S.H.I.E.L.D. agents watching the scene, were dumbstruck—followed by a wave of helplessness and despair.
"Batman!"
"Where's Batman?!"
The people of New York suddenly remembered the caped figure with pointed ears.
Come to think of it—ever since the Green Goblin incident, Batman hadn't truly appeared for a long time!
Recent news had all been about Cyborg, Iron Man, Green Arrow!
Where was Batman?
In this time of crisis—would he appear?
(Happy New Year, everyone—first day of the Lunar New Year!)
