Chapter 4 - chapter 4 —The Price of Fire

Six months had passed since my fourth birthday.

In that time, my body had grown even more, resembling that of a seven-year-old child, though I was only four and a half. My lineage seemed to accelerate my development, and every training session only intensified that growth.

Training the Basic Ninjutsu

My father always said that before mastering complex techniques, I had to carry the foundations within me. That's why we spent weeks on the three fundamental ninjutsu every shinobi must know: Henge no Jutsu, Kawarimi no Jutsu, and Bunshin no Jutsu.

The first, Henge no Jutsu, was the easiest for me. My mother guided me through the training.

— Focus, Arashi. Chakra is the paint, and your mind is the brush. The form you wish to assume is the canvas.

I closed my eyes and imagined my father: black hair falling over his shoulder, the faint scar on his eyebrow, and the three-tomoe eyes burning like embers. I focused, molded my chakra, and felt my body distort.

When I opened my eyes, the reflection in the mirror was almost identical to his, though my shorter height still betrayed the imperfection of the disguise.

— Not bad… for a four-year-old boy, he said, crossing his arms.

The second, Kawarimi no Jutsu, demanded weeks of frustrating attempts. Switching my body with a log at the last second felt impossible at first. But my father did not accept failure. He attacked me with wooden kunai, bamboo lashes, and even real strikes with a sheathed sword.

With every failed attempt, I collapsed to the ground bruised and battered. Until one day, in a moment of pure instinct, I felt chakra pull my body backward and, as his blade nearly grazed my shoulder, a log appeared in my place. I had performed the substitution.

It was like the world had opened up before me.

Finally, Bunshin no Jutsu. Despite seeming simple, it was infuriating. My first clones were grotesque blurs, pale and deformed. But my anger fed my chakra, and with patience, I began to create decent copies. They weren't solid yet, only illusions, but enough to fool careless eyes.

By the end of three months, I had already mastered the three basic ninjutsu. And for my age, that was monstrous.

The First Kill

After those three months of training, I learned that strength in that era wasn't measured only in skills. It was measured in blood.

One afternoon, my father returned from battle. His eyes were darker than usual, and behind him, two warriors carried a man bound in ropes. His clothes were torn, and a rival clan's crest stained his chest. He was bleeding, but alive.

They forced him to his knees in our yard. I watched from a distance, my heart pounding.

My father walked up to me and held out a kunai.

— Arashi. The time has come.

I frowned, confused.

— Time… for what?

He didn't blink.

— To prove you are an Uchiha. Kill him.

My body froze. The man, though wounded, glared at me with hatred and desperation. I wasn't blind: he had family, friends, dreams. I knew what death meant.

— I… I can't… My hands trembled as I held the kunai.

My father crouched down to meet my eyes, his fiery gaze piercing me.

— The world has no place for innocence, Arashi. You are no longer in your mother's lap. It's time to choose: either you kill, or you'll always be weak. And the weak do not survive in this era.

My heart raced. I wasn't just a child; I was also the young man who had lived in another world, where life was sacred, where murder was a crime. My stomach churned at the thought.

But then, a voice echoed within me:

"Didn't you want to change the fate of the Uchiha clan? Didn't you want to prevent the tragedy? How will you do that if you don't have the strength to bear the weight of blood?"

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and remembered the future. The Night of the Massacre. Itachi, forced to slaughter everyone to "protect" the village. The eternal pain of the clan.

If I wanted to change that, I had to dirty my hands.

I opened my eyes, tightened my grip on the kunai, and without a second thought, drove it into the prisoner's neck.

Warm blood sprayed across my skin. The man gagged, his eyes emptying, and within seconds, he collapsed lifeless.

My body trembled, and inside, I wanted to vomit. But I did not cry. I simply stood there, watching life slip away before me.

My father rose and placed his hand on my shoulder.

— Now, you are a true Uchiha.

But deep inside me, something screamed: "If being Uchiha means this… then I will be a different Uchiha."

The Grandparents' Legacy

That same night, I washed the blood from my hands and returned to the scroll I had found months before: the legacy of my grandparents.

The incomplete genjutsu, Mugen Akai Kyō, demanded absolute focus. I spent nights channeling chakra into my eyes, projecting illusory reflections onto small animals. First rats, then birds. The creatures writhed, trapped in repeated images of themselves. It never lasted more than a few seconds, but it was something.

The ninjutsu, Enkō Rasen, was even more dangerous. It required molding fire chakra into a rotating sphere. My first attempts ended in uncontrolled explosions, burning trees and blistering my hands. But each failure taught me more. The fire spun, still unstable, but I could feel its potential.

My grandparents had failed to elevate these techniques to S-Rank. But I… I would not fail.

The Mental Panel

That night, after training and after carrying the weight of my first kill, I sat in silence. I closed my eyes and imagined a mental panel, as if it were a profile that summarized who I was up to that moment. Not just for me — but for anyone daring to understand the path I was walking.
