Chapter 11 - Chapter 12: New Headless Horseman

The night passed quietly. Nothing happened.

In the morning, Damien woke up early. He freshened up and went to the kitchen to make coffee. While he was preparing the coffee with the machine, the Headless Horseman entered the room.

The Headless Horseman said, "Lord, I have prepared what you wished for."

Earlier, after waking up, Damien had commanded the Headless Horseman to collect nearby corpses and gather them in the compound of the building while he made coffee.

"Let's go," Damien said.

He poured the coffee the machine had finished brewing into a cup and drank it while walking outside.

After stepping out of the building, he saw a huge pile of corpses in the middle of the compound.

Last night, while the Headless Horseman was out killing zombies, he had taken some skeletons with him. Four of the skeletons had been destroyed. That was why Damien planned to perform the Sacrificial Ritual again to summon a stronger undead.

After finishing the coffee and feeling refreshed, Damien handed the empty cup to a nearby skeleton to hold. He walked toward the pile of corpses and began the ritual.

Slowly, he chanted the incantations. Green flames formed in his hands and spread across the ground where the corpses were piled.

The flames began to form symbols and runes, which connected to each other. The green fire flared up, covering the bodies. Then, as the flames burned lower, the bodies inside were consumed and vanished.

When the flames finally died down, the silhouette of a figure on a horse appeared.

A new Headless Horseman had been summoned.

Damien then used Soul Scan to look at the level of this undead. It was Tier 0, Level 2.

Damien had used the Sacrificial Ritual skill previously with a living skeleton and other dead bodies to summon a more powerful undead, but instead of summoning a new creature, the skeleton evolved to become a Headless Horseman—which explained why it had a skeleton head.

It made him more certain because, when this new Headless Horseman was summoned, just like the previous time when the first Headless Horseman appeared, it got off its horse and knelt toward Damien. A head materialized again, though this time it looked more human-like.

Damien wanted to use his other skill, Skeleton Beast Summon, but he hadn't seen any animals around the area, so he had not used it yet.

He ordered the new Headless Horseman to follow Headless Horseman 1—a nickname Damien used to make it easier to call them—and to help protect the place.

With the two Headless Horsemen now guarding the area, he could safely start thinking about new plans.

Although Mrs. Cassie had said that her family would send a helicopter to pick them up, there was no guarantee that the helicopter would come. And even if it did, there was no guarantee they would take Alice and him with them, and, most importantly, locating them in this chaotic world would be very hard.

While thinking about all these things in his head, Damien didn't realize someone was standing in front of him.

He bumped into the person—someone who had been standing at the entrance of the building and had seen everything Damien had just done.

She was shocked that awakened humans could do this kind of thing. At first she was stunned simply to see skeletons moving, walking, and following orders, but the new world kept delivering surprises.

When Damien bumped into her, she felt a sudden surge of energy—something she couldn't pinpoint. Whatever it was, she knew she had felt it, even if only for a second.

Damien apologized to Mrs. Cassie after bumping into her. "Sorry, Mrs. Cassie, I didn't see you."

Mrs. Cassie didn't mind much and said, "So you said that the light ball gave you these powers, right?"

Damien nodded his head, agreeing with her question.

Mrs. Cassie then asked again, "So how did you get the powers? Like, how did you know how to use them?"

Damien replied, "Well, it was kind of instinct. After the light ball was absorbed into my body, I gained the knowledge about how to use the powers and what kind of profession I had gotten."

Mrs. Cassie processed his answer and said, "Well, although I absorbed the light ball into my body, I just blacked out. After waking up, I couldn't feel anything like what you described to me just now."

Hearing this, Damien said, "I think your power is not fully unlocked, or maybe something else happened while your body was absorbing the powers from the light ball."

Mrs. Cassie began to think if she had felt any kind of superpower-like feeling when waking up, but she hadn't.

While she was lost in thought, Damien asked another question. "Mrs. Cassie, what kind of ball of light did you absorb? Do you remember anything about it?"

Hearing Damien's question, Mrs. Cassie thought for a second and said, "Well, I wouldn't call it a color—it was more like a transparent kind of energy ball."

Damien was also in a dilemma, because from what he had learned so far, the color of the energy ball reflected the type of element or profession a person would gain. Damien had previously asked Alice about the color of the energy ball she absorbed. She said, "It was kind of black, but it reflected shadows." That was why she awakened as an Assassin after absorbing that energy ball.

Jennifer hadn't absorbed any energy ball, so she remained a normal human being.

Damien and Mrs. Cassie talked with each other for a few minutes outside the building as they walked around the compound, discussing the recent events.

Although there was an age gap between them, they were surprised to find many similarities and shared preferences. Even though Mrs. Cassie was a bit older than Damien, she was surprisingly interested in gaming and enjoyed many of the things that the younger generation loved to do.

After walking for a while, both of them decided to return to the building, prepare some food, and wake up both Alice and Jennifer.
