Chapter 4 - God of Technology

"That would be you, of course. The Goddess has been worrying about how to find you a divine spark. Now there's no need—you can totally become a god through faith."

As she said this, the doll's face was full of envy: "The divine name of God of Internet will be bound to you. Once it accumulates to a certain degree, your life form will transform and you'll become a juvenile deity!"

"Gods can be made this way too?"

Ren was completely stunned. This was the first time he'd learned about this.

"Gods are a special form of life, born from worship and reverence. When gods fall, they transform into divine sparks that can be consumed to inherit their divine position."

The doll explained: "When worship and reverence for the God of Internet reaches a certain threshold, you'll naturally become the God of Internet."

"What's this threshold?!" Ren's breathing became a bit rapid.

He hadn't expected gods to be born this way.

He especially hadn't expected he'd have a chance to become a god... and in this way...

How fascinating!

Achieving divinity through incense and prayers, changing his life form.

Then he'd leave his holy spirit state, and even without faith power support, he wouldn't die.

The biggest problem—and its solution—was right in front of him.

The doll directly pulled out a crystal: "This is a powerless, useless divine spark—a natural container for absorbing faith power. The Goddess has already inscribed your divine name and true name on it. Consume it, and you'll be able to sense changes in faith power."

"When it's completely filled, you'll fully evolve into a deity!"

Taking a deep breath to barely calm himself, Ren finally spoke: "Um, can the divine name be changed? God of Internet sounds kinda... kinda awkward. I'd like to change the name."

He felt that once a divine name was bound, it couldn't be changed for life.

No rename cards available.

Better try before binding...

"If it can't be changed, then it can't be changed. At least I can become a god..."

Seeing the doll's strange expression, Ren suddenly felt something was wrong. But before he could finish speaking, the doll's voice came out: "So you also think this name is awkward! Then why did you pick such a name?"

"So it can be changed?" Ren felt his blood pressure rising.

"Of course it can be changed now! What do you want to change it to?"

"Hmm~ God of Technology! God of Technology!"

Ren thought for a moment—only this divine name seemed fitting: "You can go find the Goddess to change it later. Since she can't get away, let's discuss how to promote the Magic Internet first."

"Doll, you said earlier it could easily be designed as a ring?"

"Yes, it can be designed as a ring that creates a light screen to display information with just a touch."

"Can this light screen only be seen by the user, or can others see it too?"

"Both options are possible. You can make it visible to just one person or to everyone—it's just a difference in runes." The doll answered fluently.

She had very high expertise in magical equipment manufacturing.

"Which costs less? We need the most economical method." Ren explained his thinking in detail again: "The divine realm's materials aren't infinite."

The number of spellcasters among all intelligent life was definitely very scarce, but looking at the whole world, the scale was considerable.

One for each person—even the Goddess of Magic had to consider costs.

This time, the usually quick-to-answer doll fell silent. After a long while, she finally spoke: "Refined iron rings or pendants that create a palm-sized light screen when activated—this is the most economical solution."

"Good! Let's use this method." Ren nodded decisively: "Go back and make a prototype Magic Net Ring first. After confirming there are no problems, start mass production and finish the first batch as soon as possible."

"Magic Net Ring?"

"Yes, Magic Net Ring—short for Magic Internet."

"Hmm, it still sounds a bit weird, but at least it's not so tongue-twisting." The doll didn't dwell on this issue and casually replied before disappearing again.

"Book, I have a task for... huh? Book, what are you thinking about? Don't tell me there's a problem with Magic Space?"

Ren suddenly realized something. Since Betty (the doll) had returned from the Goddess of Magic, this chatty thing hadn't said a single word!

This was extremely abnormal!

From the first time he met this thing, it had never stopped talking.

Even when he gave orders to forcibly shut it up, it never lasted very long.

How had it suddenly gone quiet?!

This change worried Ren a bit.

Don't let this fail before it even gets started!

"Ahhhh~ Why? Why are you about to become a deity, Lord Ren? Not long ago, you were still an ignorant person who didn't understand any supernatural power at all. How are you about to become a god? I've studied for countless years, accumulated endless knowledge, and I've given the Goddess some suggestions too..."

"..." Ren almost couldn't resist slapping himself. Sure enough, still a chatty thing.

And what kind of suggestions were those anyway?

Directly brainwashing all spellcasters? Making anyone who didn't believe have your constant whispering in their heads? What kind of devil are you?!

Ren took a deep breath: "Alright! Maybe in the future you'll become the God of Servers or God of Databases. Right now, let's focus on business!"

"Servers? Databases? What are those? Can I really become a deity too? Dear Lord Ren, even if I become a god, I'll still be your loyal butler—that will never change..."

"Talk business! Stop the nonsense."

Ren forcibly suppressed the urge to beat this thing up, even though he couldn't actually hit it: "I need you to pretend to be some very powerful beings and discuss various magical but interesting topics in Magic Space. I'm sure you know plenty of such things, right?!"

"Go do this and stop talking to me. Once the Magic Net Rings spread and lots of spellcasters enter, you can chat with whoever you want. On the internet, people love talkative beings like you."

"Really, Lord Ren?! Right, mortals really are like that. As long as they encounter topics they like—I once went with the Goddess to the taverns that common folk on Frigid Moon love most to gather information. They can spend an entire winter gathered there drinking and chatting. This really is good news..."

Before the book could finish, Ren had already returned to his room.

He hoped the internet's appearance would make this thing shift locations!

Otherwise, he really felt he'd go crazy eventually—it was just too noisy.

After drinking some water and pushing all the random thoughts out of his head, Ren took out paper and pen and started writing and drawing.

Any supernatural being who had traveled in the mortal realm would be amazed to discover that he had written out the general situation of the Kingdom of Dawn's royal capital.

Even including some secrets of the noble class.

But this was normal.

He was Ren, after all!

Ren Ashford!

The third prince of the Kingdom of Dawn.

Even after being sacrificed, his memories remained.

The Kingdom of Dawn didn't belong exclusively to any single deity.

In the royal capital, you could find churches of at least 20 different gods... More importantly, this place boasted the kingdom's highest magical technology, gathering the Royal Mage Society, Magic Research Society, Runic Society, and dozens of other magical organizations large and small. Mage towers were countless.

The number of low-level magicians and mage apprentices could only be described as numerous as stars.

This was definitely the ideal place for spreading Magic Net Rings that he knew best.

Using this as a pilot location was perfect.

Soon, the entire divine realm of the Goddess of Magic became busy.

Some were responsible for production, some for enriching forum content, and others for... planning how to spread the word!
