Chapter 7 - Logging In

The moment Horace finished praying, he could clearly feel some of his magic power flowing toward the ring.

Then, dozens of really complex-looking runes seemed to get activated, giving off glowing light and finally forming a palm-sized screen.

There were four sentences written on it.

[Welcome to Magic Space, Magic Internet at your service.]

[Since this is your first time logging in, please enter your Magic Space username.]

[Usernames cannot be changed, please choose carefully.]

[Note: You can use your real name, but we don't recommend it.]

"Magic Space? Magic Internet?! What is this?! That magician lady actually gave me such a powerful magical device? I must be going crazy! This has got to be a dream!"

Horace swears this is the most amazing magical device he's ever seen in his life.

Dozens of incredibly precise runes, each one way beyond what an apprentice like him could make, and even his teacher, a mid-level magician, would probably need to spend tons of energy to complete runes like these!

And that's just talking about one single rune.

Dozens of runes, all concentrated on this tiny ring—even his teacher probably couldn't pull this off.

He pinched his thigh hard, and the pain finally brought him back to reality.

It's actually real!

Getting beaten up by some magician for no reason, then getting this magical device from another magician that he never would have imagined in his wildest dreams... and this incredible screen, what does it all mean?

Horace's brain just can't process all this stuff at once.

After who knows how long, he carefully looks around to make sure no one's paying attention to him, then quickly types "Magician's Apprentice" into the username field.

[Input successful. Dear Mr. 'Magician's Apprentice,' Magic Space is a gift from the Goddess of Magic and the God of Technology. Please use it well.]

Seeing the names of the Goddess of Magic and God of Technology again, the respect on Horace's face obviously gets even deeper.

That powerful magician must be a believer of the Goddess of Magic or the God of Technology.

They actually gave someone as weak as him, just a little apprentice, a gift from the gods!

Horace's heart is completely blown away.

It's not until that line of text disappears and the 'Magic Space' interface appears on the screen that he finally snaps back to reality.

ㄴ[I want to collect all the magic in the world, please help me!]

ㄴ[Offering a reward for high-level knight armor, contact me if interested.]

ㄴ[The ice spirits in the Far North are acting weird, but the watchtower guards don't seem to notice!]

ㄴ[Ancient ruins might have appeared in the Highland Kingdom, high-level magicians have been exploring for months with no news, does anyone know what's going on?]

High-level knight armor?

Far North? Ice spirits?! Highland Kingdom ruins?!

Horace feels like his entire life hasn't been as shocking as this one moment.

No wonder it's a gift from the gods—the topics are actually... actually at this level. Is this really something I should be looking at?

But he still can't resist his curiosity and clicks on the least "dangerous" and most approachable post.

The screen changes.

ㄴ[I want to collect all the magic in the world, please help me!]

ㄴ[Fireball, Ice Freeze, Entangle...]

"Good, these are things I might actually have a chance with..." Just as Horace is about to feel relieved that he's finally seeing something he can understand, he sees the next line: 'Soul Devour, Annihilation Bullet, Doomsday Judgment...' What the heck are these?

What level of magic could do stuff like this?

Don't these sound like forbidden spells?

These names don't sound normal at all.

As he keeps scrolling, things get weirder and weirder.

Some people are indeed replying with magic they know, but way more people are saying all sorts of strange stuff.

ㄴ[Thanks for the invite, I'm a dwarf, don't know magic, only know how to forge!]

ㄴ[You can't activate anything without magic power, duh!]

ㄴ[Is the original poster crazy? Magic is vast and endless, even if you spent your whole life, you couldn't collect even one or two tenths of it.]

ㄴ[Hijacking this thread, I'm Strong Ashford, I'm not dead, I've been trapped in a secret realm for 1200 years, give me 10 gold shields and when I break the seal, I'll make you Hand of the King!]

Horace stares blankly, completely shocked and confused.

What the hell is all this?

Why do so many people seem totally nuts?

But the things these people are talking about... seem so real!

What kind of existence is this gift from the gods?

As he keeps reading, suddenly he freezes.

Someone actually says that Fireball has lots of different variations, people in different regions use slightly different activation runes when casting Fireball, and the power, speed, and temperature of the fireballs are all different too.

They even explain in detail how to construct all these different types of Fireball spells and what effects they'll have.

All of a sudden, he gets super excited.

He reads it carefully over and over again, afraid he'll miss a single word.

In the Goddess of Magic's divine realm.

Ren watches this scene with his lips curving up slightly: "Not bad, that old guy's apprentice is pretty reliable, she's already handed out several of them, and this apprentice is pretty good too, he's already starting to use it, he's just a bit slow, don't know when he'll fully master it."

"If you could create fewer fake... fake accounts and write less useless stuff, I'm sure he'd master it way faster," the doll complains helplessly: "Even I have trouble understanding all the information on there."

"But without that information, the internet isn't complete." Ren smiles slightly: "And don't you think when lots of people start chatting this way, the internet becomes really interesting, and lots of people can't help but click on it more and more... Wait! Here it comes! Here it comes! I'll stop chatting with you for now!"

"What's coming?" The doll looks at Ren, whose expression suddenly changed completely, her eyes full of confusion.

"What else could it be? Faith, of course!"

The transmission speed of faith seems a bit slower than magic power. That apprentice has already had Magic Space open for a while, and only now does Ren feel that white blank godhead bound to the God of Technology's name suddenly receive a strange... aura? Or light?

That feeling isn't very clear.

Hard to describe.

But it's definitely golden, like smoke.

Dreamlike and fantastical.

Soon, under Ren's gaze, it merges into the godhead and completely disappears.

It's probably because it's just one prayer from one magic apprentice, so it's really thin, and after merging you can barely feel it, but it makes Ren super excited!

At least it proves he really can absorb faith!

"What's with that expression? And you said you weren't jealous of me."

Reluctantly shifting his attention away from that blank godhead inside him, looking at the doll with her resentful face, Ren can't help but laugh.

Ever since he met this guy, he hasn't seen this kind of expression many times!

Seeing that the other person's excited head looks like it's about to fall off again, Ren quickly changes the subject:

"By the way, where's the book? The mortal realm has started using the internet, I still want to ask him if he has any special feelings, and whether he can handle it when the numbers go up!"

"I locked him in the storage room. Ever since he saw those ridiculous comments you made, he's gotten even weirder, I really couldn't take it anymore, so I locked him up." The doll acts like the book is her personal property.
