Chapter 12 - 12: The Young Master Arrives

Weiwei Town.

Like any other morning, the street was already alive with a bustling crowd from different walks of life.

The only difference for the new Wan Zheng was the people he was seeing right now.

They were dressed in ancient clothes, unlike the familiar modern style.

Wan Zheng had never been inside a traditional costume drama set.

Even though most of the items he dealt with at auctions were ancient relics, and many of his clients were influential people who sponsored those kinds of shows.

Still, the closest he had ever come to such a scene was when he once saw his nephew watching a television drama set in the ancient era.

That little guy actually dared to slack off his work and watch an online cheesy costume drama.

As a responsible uncle who helped raise his sister's only son, Wan Zheng scolded him after the show was over.

In those online dramas, he had seen many exquisite costumes, each filled with intricate craftsmanship.

But now…

As Wan Zheng looked around at the streets crowded with grey-clad farmers, fishermen, small laborers, and other common people, there were none of the colorful clothes he had seen on screen.

Among the bustling crowd, it was rare to see anyone in light-colored clothing.

Most wore plain dark grey garments, practical for their daily work.

Wan Zheng wore light green robes, adorned with intricate embroidery that immediately marked him as different from the rest.

Some people would glance at him.

The moment their sight landed on his handsome face, they immediately looked away.

It was as if they had encountered a plague they could neither confront nor avoid.

His unforgettable face was known throughout Weiwei Town.

He was the wealthy young master from the Capital.

On top of that, everyone knew he was the son of a noble cultivator, making him a cultivator himself.

At first, people admired and feared him at the same time.

However, over the past seven years, their fear of him had only grown stronger.

The original Wan Zheng was truly a certified abuser.

Not just a cruel father and husband, he was also a cultivator bully.

He used his not-so-mortal status to mock and intimidate the mortals in Weiwei Town.

The first time he entered Weiwei Town after his unwanted marriage.

Wan Zheng accidentally stumbled upon an old farmer.

Being a heavy drinker and furious over marrying a poor mortal girl, he beat the poor farmer mercilessly.

From that day on, no one dared cross him, and even the small officials were too afraid to challenge him.

In Weiwei Town, for the past seven years, no cultivator from outside had stepped in.

The mortals here were not even aware if other cultivators existed.

They could have easily detected that Wan Zheng was nothing but useless roots.

Because of that ignorance, Wan Zheng's identity was basically untouchable.

He was like a powerful man no one dared to challenge.

This was also what the original Wan Zheng believed at that time.

He enjoyed it so much, living like a gangster.

But for the new core inside Wan Zheng, he didn't see it that way.

Something was wrong here, that much he could sense.

"Young Master Zheng, it's you! I didn't expect my brother to already be here. Are we going to the Peony Garden to taste their new delicacies?"

Wan Zheng was stopped by a figure in the crowd who suddenly called his name, sounding both overly cheerful and sarcastic at the same time.

He was a young man, not older than Wan Zheng, wearing light yellow robes.

Fine enough to show he knew how to dress well.

The man held an inked paper fan, lightly fanning himself.

He looked every bit like a respectable scholar of ancient times.

It's just that he wasn't so respectable after all.

This is the original Wan Zheng's liar friend.

"Young Master Zheng, how about we go together?"

"I prefer to go to the Lailou Inn. Will you come with me?"

Wan Zheng's cold face changed into an amusing smile, the kind the original body owner would wear.

"Lailou Inn, that's wonderful! I was just about to have a morning meal there, and I hear they have a new dish. If the young master tastes it, Mr. Lailou himself would be delighted to welcome you today."

"Mnn…"

Wan Zheng was used to the flattery of some of his clients, who would go to great lengths just to get what they wanted from him.

This deceitful person, named Ji Yin, however, was far from skilled at it.

"Has the young Master Zheng already thought about what I suggested two days ago?"

Ji Yin asked in a whisper, smiling like a fox, his eyes fixed on young Master Zheng for any reaction.

Wan Zheng did not reply to that.

They had just arrived at the small, two-story yet very expensive Lailou Inn in Weiwei Town.

A waiter boy who had seen them quickly greeted them.

Everyone was very familiar with this generous customer, young Master Zheng, who was known for spending money like flowing water.

Having seen him at the inn today, they knew it was likely to hit a jackpot.

The waiter boy could expect a very generous tip.

"It's nice to see you today, Young Master Zheng."

A familiar old waiter, known to everyone as Mr. Zhang, pushed the waiter boy aside and wanted to serve the distinguished guest himself.

The waiter boy walked away, silently fuming, only able to curse the greedy old Zhang in his mind.

"Mr. Zhang, I'm hungry. I heard you have a new set of dishes today."

Wan Zheng said as he took the menu from the old waiter.

The old paper, the size of ordinary bond paper, was filled with small characters written in freshly dried black ink.

The original body owner could read and write.

As the new Wan Zheng, he had also inherited this skill, which worked to his advantage in this world.

"Yes, yes! We have a new dish called Roast Duck with Honey Glaze here. We must make sure to leave some so that young Master Zheng can taste it at all costs."

"Then let's have them served." Wan Zheng spoke and began adding some dishes from the menu.

"— Add five bowls of plain white rice, braised pork, chicken stew, fried fish, and a slice of grilled steak. Add some small pieces of sweet rice cakes and honey-glazed lotus seeds for dessert."

Ji Yin was quite surprised that young Master Zheng actually ordered so much.

He couldn't help flattering him even more.

"It seems young Master Zheng would like to celebrate a feast. Is there good news from Third Master Wan?"

Wan Zheng handed the menu back to Mr. Zhang.

The old waiter excused himself politely, smiling happily, knowing they would make a lot of money today.

When Wan Zheng turned to Ji Yin, a hint of seriousness appeared in his eyes at the mention of the original body owner's father.
