Chapter 15 - 15: Young Master's Bargain

"Ah… I remember now. My brother Ji will handle the payment for it."

Wan Zheng pursed his lips, revealing his straight, white teeth.

He lightly tapped Mr. Zhang's shoulder, as if greeting a close friend.

"Right, Ji Yin?"

One met the other's eyes, cold and piercing, while the other looked back with reluctant timidity and hidden resentment.

Ji Yin nodded subconsciously.

"Oh, I understand now, Young Master Zheng. Then please, distinguished Ji Yin, pay 50 taels of silver."

Mr. Zheng accepted gladly, without asking any questions, thinking it was normal for noble young masters to pay each other when sharing a meal.

"What! Fifty taels!?"

Ji Yin blurted out, unable to help himself.

He only had twenty taels of silver left in his pouch.

How could he possibly pay that, especially when he wasn't even willing to spend so much on a meal he didn't even get to taste?

Why did it cost so much anyway?

He looked at Mr. Zhang as if asking the question without saying a word.

"You see, the white rice this month is limited in production, so we raised the cost—"

"Well then, Ji Yin, pay the old man fifty taels of silver. Don't waste my time here."

Wan Zheng interrupted, not wanting to stay any longer.

He turned around to leave and added, as if it were no big deal.

"If you lack the silver, give them your necklace. It's worth a hundred taels anyway."

Hearing those words, Ji Yin's eyes widened in surprise, wondering how the idiotic Young Master Zheng could know the true cost of the necklace he was wearing.

He was about to follow Wan Zheng, but Mr. Zhang blocked him with a not-so-friendly smile and a stern gaze.

"Please pay fifty taels of silver, Young Master Ji Yin."

Leaving the Lailou Inn felt like breathing fresh air again, and the weight of the basket in both of his hands made his heart swell with satisfaction.

Wan Zheng went straight toward the small exchange shop, guided by the memories of the original body's owner.

[100 taels of silver, low grade, mortal artifact.]

This was the value of Ji Yin's silver necklace, and there were more, like the painted fan he was using, which wasn't even worth 100 copper coins.

Wan Zheng could see the value and identity of whether it was a mortal artifact or an immortal's artifact.

It seemed that even though he had no intention of following the SSS-Ranked Treasures Bidding System's task, its ability was still visible in his eyes.

No questions were asked, and his so-called system wasn't bothering to speak, which was a good thing for Wan Zheng.

He didn't need to follow the task.

He also had a hidden skill that was a useful advantage he could employ whenever necessary.

In short, this was a good thing!

An older man with a long white beard sat in front of a small shop, drinking tea and being served by a male servant.

He opened his eyes at the sight of Wan Zheng approaching, his lips curling into a flattering smile.

This was the older male owner of the pawnshop, Mr. Dajia, where the original body had always gone to pawn his jewelry and antiques.

The sound of silver ringing seemed to echo in both of their ears as they saw each other.

"Young Master Zheng! You're here! I'm glad to see you visiting my small shop."

"I want to pawn these two pieces of jewelry."

Wan Zheng carefully placed the two treasures left by the original owner on the table, a gold necklace and a pair of gold earrings.

"Oh, sit, sit, Young Master Zheng! Quick, quick, serve a fresh cup of tea for Young Master Zheng."

The male servant hurried over quickly to fetch a fresh teacup.

Although the original Wan Zheng was known as a violent man and sometimes the most unreasonable, he was extremely rich when he arrived in Weiwei Town.

His rumored wealth and status allowed him to make these small mortals practically wash his feet.

"I see you have brought some fine treasures again this time, Young Master Zheng."

Mr. Dajia's wrinkled fingers traced the length of his long white beard, his eyes narrowing with a scheming delight.

It lingered for a long time over the glittering, beautiful jewelry, which he knew were the kind only noble ladies in the Royal Capital could afford.

This surely would bring him even more fortune, just like the other jewels he had acquired before from Young Master Zheng.

After a pause, as if thinking very hard, a businesslike smile spread across Mr. Dajia's face.

"Young Master Zheng's treasures are indeed valuable. Just one look at them, and they must be worth at least 300 taels of silver."

"Not 300 taels of silver, Mr. Dajia."

Wan Zheng unapologetically hit the other's hand away with a chopstick, which was reaching for the two jewelries.

It wasn't strong enough to make the other stumble, but enough to sting the skin.

Mr. Dajia clearly felt the pain and hissed, momentarily shocked.

Even he was almost annoyed at being hit by another person.

But when his eyes met Wan Zheng's cold ones, he felt as if a bucket of ice-cold water had been poured over him.

In the next second, Mr. Dajia could only swallow hard and quickly plaster on a flattering smile.

"Ah… where are my manners? My apologies, Young Master Zheng. I was curious to see these valuable things. Since you want to pawn them, how about 350 taels of silver?"

"Both of them?"

Wan Zheng blinked slowly, his long eyelashes visible up close.

He tapped lightly on the table next to the items with his index finger.

"Yes?"

"No. 499 taels each."

"What! Young Master Zheng!"

The old man's heart almost popped out of his chest.

He couldn't believe what Young Master Zheng was saying.

It was outrageous!

How could he mean 499 taels of silver?

They're not in the Royal Capital.

What could a small pawnshop like his possibly pay for that amount?

Wan Zheng didn't react to the sudden outburst.

He stayed still, staring at the old man's forehead, waiting in silence, waiting patiently.

"Young Master, don't you think that's overboard? Where do you think a jewelry like this could cost that much—"

"In the Royal Capital."
