Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Hallucinations and Awakening

The first rays of dawn were barely visible across the cloudy skies of the Republic of Monia, casting long gray shadows across the rough roads Abid and his companions, Banarf and Iormed, trudged after surviving the horrific assassination attempt. Their hearts were still pounding from the pursuit, their bodies heavy with exhaustion, but their souls yearned for safety. Abid knew they were now exposed targets in this republic and that the noble conspiracy the sources had warned him of was not just rumors but a bloody reality. His gray eyes scanned the road, his bronze scales reflecting a faint ray of daylight.

Iormed walked with difficulty. Her ancient curse still drained her strength and caused chronic pain and general weakness. Tears welled in her eyes, not from fear of death, but from grief at her inability to effectively protect herself and her companions. She felt like a burden to Abid and Banarf, and this feeling weighed more heavily on her spirit than any physical pain.

Banarf held the Shulam ancestral scepter in her grip. She could feel the anger rising deep within her. "Abid," Banarf whispered hoarsely, "how can we find safety here? They are now following us like prey. We must leave Monia as soon as possible!" Her gray eyes shone with steely determination, and the Shield of Protection ability she had awakened after her recovery gave her a renewed sense of responsibility.

Abid looked at his two companions, feeling the pain they were in. "We will survive," Abid said in his calm, dignified voice, "but we must be very careful.

Meeting the cursed Aipath with hallucinations

In their search for safe shelter, Abid chose an uncharted path, passing through a dense forest on the outskirts of one of the small villages of Monia. The trees here were older and denser, casting deep shadows even in broad daylight. As they walked cautiously, Abid heard a faint moaning sound coming from the trees. The three stopped, exchanging wary glances. "What is that sound?" Banarf whispered, grasping her scepter.

Abid followed the voice quietly, using his Dragon Agility to make his movements more fluid. They found a girl squatting beneath a massive oak tree, an expression of utter terror on her face. She was a wood elf, with short brown hair and green eyes and beautiful features. She was simply dressed and held a spear. But her eyes stared into space, filled with hallucinations. She was screaming and writhing, as if trying to fend off unseen attacks. "Get away from me! Don't come any closer, you ghosts! I see the trees walking! I see hideous faces staring back at me from between the branches!" She spoke in a wood elf dialect, which Abid understood thanks to his mind stimulation ability.

This was Aipath, the wood elf cursed with hallucinations. Abid felt a wave of deep compassion for her. Her condition was far worse than the Old Hall Sickness or the Iormede Curse, for she suffered from a distorted perception of reality itself. "Calm down, girl," Abid said in his calm, dignified voice. "We are not ghosts. We are here to help you."

Understanding the nature of hallucinations

Abid cautiously approached Aipath as she screamed and backed away, waving her hand in the air as if trying to ward off imaginary beings. "Don't come any closer! They'll take you! They're whispering your worst fears! The world is cracking around me!"

Abid remembered Elder Nardan's words. He realized that Aipath's condition wasn't just insanity but a direct manifestation of these errors. "She sees the cracked code," Abid thought to himself, while the gilded wooden medallion, "The Shield of the Humble Scribe," he wore, provided him with an inner calm and clarity of mind, helping him focus despite Aipath's mental chaos.

Abid knew that the Scribe, the "Architect of Reality," was using artificial intelligence to weave the threads of Seria's world. These hallucinations were "bugs in the code" or "interference from other dimensions" that the Scribe had been unable to fully correct. Aipath, cursed, saw reality unstable, as if observing cracks in the digital matrix upon which their world was built.

Searching for a fix for hallucinations

Abid decided to use his powers to understand the nature of Aipath's curse and fix it. He placed a gentle hand on Aipath's shoulder, which initially trembled, then calmed down slightly under his calming presence. Abid closed his eyes, focused his intelligence and wisdom, and then spoke the miraculous words.

Abid used his "paranormal assessment ability." His assessment wasn't limited to Aipath herself but extended to the hallucinations she was experiencing. A cold stream of energy flowed into his mind, and the ability revealed that Aipath's curse was a complex type of "Squint Illusion." But it wasn't just a simple illusion; it was "interfering with the fabric of her personal reality," caused by the corrupted "Star of Beginning" energy that was distorting her perception. She was seeing apparitions of monstrous wooden beings, tree branches reaching out to grab her, and voices accusing her and reminding her of her worst fears.

Abid understood that these hallucinations were not merely visual or auditory illusions but rather a "bug in the software code" that determined Aipath's perception of reality. It was like a software glitch displaying distorted images and data. Aipath was searching for a supernatural artifact to break the curse, but Abid realized that the "Heart of the Dwarves," the "Scepter of Shulam's Ancestors," and his own deep knowledge of the Scribe were the true tools to break the curse.

Fix Aipath's hallucinations and gain prediction

Abid looked at Banarf and Iormed. "We must treat her," Abid said firmly. "She is another victim of this world's mistakes. We have the tools and the knowledge."

Banarf grabbed the Heart of the Dwarves and placed it on Aipath's still trembling chest. Abid raised the Ancestral Scepter of Shulam and aimed it at Aipath, his entire focus on restoring balance to the fabric of her reality. He began chanting phrases from the ancient language he had deciphered at the shrine. They were not just words but "guiding codes" of energy, attempting to "reweave the fabric of her life," purifying her body and soul of hidden evils.

Aipath felt a cold energy surge through her body, followed by a burning sensation in her eyes. The hallucinations were gathering and intensifying, as if resisting healing, screaming in a muffled voice in her mind. But Abid's resolve, bolstered by Banarf's wisdom and Iormed's encouragement, was stronger. The hallucinations slowly began to fade, the woody ghosts receding, the branches growing still, and the screaming voices fading.

Aipath let out a muffled scream, a scream of pain, but also a scream of liberation. She opened her green eyes, now glowing with a new gleam, the gleam of awareness. "He… he's gone!" she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes, this time tears of pure joy. "I can't see them anymore! I can't hear them anymore!"

Aipath embraced Abid, Banarf, and Iormed with indescribable gratitude. "I have no words to express my gratitude. For years, I lived in a nightmare. I was a coward, hiding from shadows that weren't real, afraid of everything. And now… the pain is gone!" The traces of fear faded from her face, replaced by a deep sense of peace and hope.

At that moment, Aipath felt a new power surge through her veins. It wasn't just physical strength; it was extraordinary insight. She closed her eyes and saw quick flashes of the near future, as if watching the threads of the "story" intertwine before her. She opened them, her face a mixture of wonder and awe.

"I can see… I can see what's going to happen!" Aipath said, her voice trembling. "These are flashes of the future! I see… I see men in dark clothes lurking for us on the path leading to the village inn! They're mercenaries! The same mercenaries who tried to assassinate you!"

After her recovery, Aipath gained the ability to predict. This ability was unique, a direct result of repairing a "fault in the fabric of her reality." She could see the "flows" of the story, as if observing the movement of events before they occurred.

Escape to the Aymluan Empire

Abid was amazed and excited. This was an unexpected development, but it was conclusive evidence for his theory. "Prediction?" Abid said. "That's an exclusive ability!"

"We must move now!" Aipath shouted, a newfound fervor taking hold of her. "They're coming! The attack will begin in five minutes!"

There was no time to hesitate. Abid quickly led the group in the opposite direction Aipath had indicated. Abid used his Wings of Light to lift up Iormed, who was too weak to run quickly, while Banarf and Aipath ran beside them. Banarf used her Stone Forge ability to block the path behind them, quickly raising rock barriers to impede the mercenaries.

A few minutes later, they heard shouting and angry sounds from behind them, as the mercenaries arrived at the empty ambush they had planned. "They've ruined our plan!" one of them shouted. "Find them! Don't let them get away!"

Aipath constantly directed them. "There's a secret path through ancient caves in the hills!" she shouted. "We'll emerge on the other side of the forest, where they're not expected!" Aipath led them through narrow, winding passages, the ends of which she could see before they even set foot on the ground. "Duck down here! A rock will pass overhead!" "Stop! There's a trap ahead!" Her powers of prediction were astonishingly accurate, as if she were seeing the most appropriate path in the "weave of story" for escape.

The chase was fierce, but Aipath's prediction gave them a decisive advantage. They managed to evade the mercenaries who were searching for them at every turn. Abid felt renewed confidence in his heart. This girl, who had just been a prisoner of her hallucinations, was now their salvation.

After hours of running and hiding, they finally reached the outskirts of the Republic of Monia, specifically the borders of the Aymluan Empire. The day was beginning to set, painting the horizon orange and red. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They'd survived.

"We did it!" Banarf said with a wide smile, placing her hand on Aipath's shoulder. "Thank you, Aipath! You saved us!"

Crossing through the cities of the Aymluan Empire and spreading knowledge

The heroes entered the Aymluan Empire, an ancient dwarven kingdom known for its "highlander" culture and solid, rock-hewn buildings. The atmosphere here was calmer and more orderly than the hustle and bustle of human cities and the bustle of Monia.

Not content with seeking safety, Abid decided to continue his mission to spread awareness and help people. "These people are suffering too," Abid told his companions, his gray eyes scanning the faces of the dwarves in the city they had arrived in. "We must share what we have learned with them. We must help them."

They crossed through numerous cities in the Aymluan Empire. In each city, Abid and his companions replicated what they had done in the Kingdom of Baraka. They stood in public squares and marketplaces, speaking of the "Star of Beginning" as a "focal point of supernatural energy" and of the "Scribe" as an "architect of reality" who "seeks to develop a story." Abid explained how curses and incurable diseases might be "mistakes in the fabric of the story" that could be understood and corrected.

Banarf used her charisma to tell her story of the curse of the statue of Shulamun and how she had been freed thanks to Abid. Her words sparked hope in the hearts of the dwarves, who also suffered from mysterious illnesses or ancient curses. Iormed, despite her lingering curse, felt renewed inner strength as she saw hope blossom in people's eyes thanks to their words. She longed for the day she could heal and help others herself. Aipath stood beside them, her green eyes shining with deep insight. She watched the people's reactions, as if she could see the threads of the future changing thanks to their words.

Abid and his companions helped many ailing people. Banarf used the "Dwarven Heart," which contained the Shulamun Crystal, to soothe their pain or heal minor ailments, which were interpreted as "small flaws in the fabric of their personal reality." Its healing power improved with each use. Aipath, with her newfound ability to predict, would point out certain conditions that could be better helped or warn against those who would try to take advantage of them.

News of Abid and his companions spread like wildfire throughout the Aymluan Empire. They were dubbed the "Correctors" or "Followers of the Star." People began to flock to them from remote villages and cities, seeking help and healing. This fame grew rapidly, reaching the leaders and nobles of the empire.

The heroes finally arrived at Ishlundhesi, the capital of the Aymluan Empire. The massive city, carved into the rock, was teeming with people waiting for them. After spending some time helping more patients in the capital, they decided to cross into the Dahiya Sultanate.

Go young and spread the knowledge

In the heart of Eshlundhesi, the heroes stood before the Eshlundhesi Gate, a massive stone archway glowing a brilliant blue, connecting the major cities. Crossing the gate to Shab, the capital of the Dahiya Sultanate, was essential to their journey.

When they arrived in Shab, the bustling Arab city, they were greeted by a huge crowd of people who had heard about them. News of them had preceded them, and their names shone throughout the Sultanate of Dhahia. Abid and his companions continued their mission. In the crowded markets and public squares, Abid disseminated his knowledge of the "Scribe" and the "Star of Beginning," and of the "Faults in the Fabric of the Story." Banarf was sharing her story with him honestly, and Iormed stood beside them, watching Aipath, who was now a source of hope for them all. Aipath, with her powers of prophecy, saw a glimpse of a bright future, a future where they could change "the story" for the better.

The Dhahia Sultanate was where Abid had begun his journey after leaving his clan, and now he had returned with deeper knowledge and loyal companions. News of them had spread throughout the empire and sultanate, and people were beginning to realize that their world was not as simple as they had imagined. The knower's journey had reached a new turning point, one where Abid was no longer just a seeker of truth but a catalyst for change and awareness in the world of Seria.
