After seeing Doctor Zola's transmission complete, Meng Ran immediately grabbed the black box and stood with Rogers and Natasha.
Once they were together, dazzling golden light surged from Meng Ran. The golden light enveloped the three of them and instantly disappeared from the underground space.
In the blink of an eye, they had arrived far away from the dilapidated base. Fifteen seconds remained before the missiles hit.
Looking back towards the original location, the missiles speeding through the air had become tiny, faint black dots.
"One missile is enough to destroy that base, and the power of eight missiles will definitely affect the people around it," Natasha said with some concern, looking at the distant missiles.
"We can only do our best to save as many people as possible, but we can't save everyone. We're already lucky to survive this attack," Rogers comforted her after hearing what Natasha said.
As a veteran with rich combat experience, he had seen this kind of thing too many times. He used to think this way often, but now he had come to terms with it.
As a person, the most important thing is to recognize the limits of one's abilities. If you are constantly troubled by things beyond your capabilities, you may not even be able to do what you can next time.
Just as the two were talking, the eight small, black missile dots in the distance suddenly changed direction again, shooting towards the sky.
Seeing this familiar scene, Natasha and Rogers couldn't help but turn their heads to look at the place where the Evil Ghost had just been standing.
Sure enough, the Evil Ghost had already disappeared from their side.
Realizing that this was another of the Evil Ghost's tricks, Rogers and Natasha focused on watching the sky in the distance.
In the distant sky, the eight missiles shot straight up, as if they were satellites.
When they reached a very high altitude, a gray, bright blade of light, like a crescent moon, shot out from mid-air and flew towards the eight missiles.
When the blade of light contacted the eight missiles, the expected explosion did not occur.
In their vision, the missiles seemed to have suddenly disappeared into the sky.
In the instant the missiles vanished from their sight, the Evil Ghost's figure suddenly reappeared beside them.
Just now, Meng Ran had repeated his method, kicking those eight missiles into the air like balls, then using Cloud-Cutting's power of decay to unleash a "Moon-Cutting," returning them to dust.
Seeing the Evil Ghost suddenly appear beside them again, Natasha and Rogers felt nothing. They had been surprised at first, but they had become numb after seeing so much.
"Okay, things here are finished. Next, I'll take you to see an old acquaintance; I reckon you'll want to see him too." Meng Ran turned and walked to the side. He had sensed a car not far away that they could use.
Hearing the Evil Ghost's words, Natasha and Rogers were curious about who the acquaintance was, but they didn't ask. They just followed him.
After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at a nearby parking lot, where many vehicles of various sizes were parked.
Meng Ran planned to pick a lucky vehicle from there to use as their means of transportation.
After observing the parking lot for a moment, he finally chose an off-road vehicle that looked pretty good.
After selecting a vehicle, the group didn't waste any time. Meng Ran sat in the driver's seat, his finger transforming into a black key. He inserted it into the ignition, gave it a few twists, and started the car.
With Xiao Bai's route guidance, they headed towards the abandoned hydroelectric station where Nick Fury was hiding.
Meanwhile, in the parking lot, a bald middle-aged man held a soda and a burger, staring blankly at the empty parking space where his car should have been. Only a brick sat in the empty space.
The bald middle-aged man walked towards the brick and gently kicked it aside.
Underneath the brick was a stack of green banknotes, looking quite substantial. It was probably enough to buy two of the cars he had just parked there.
After a period of speeding, Meng Ran, Rogers, and Natasha finally arrived at the abandoned hydroelectric station where Nick Fury was located.
Meng Ran glanced at the hidden camera at the entrance and waved to the people inside.
Then, he led Rogers and Natasha directly inside. The chain on the dilapidated iron gate was easily sliced through by him.
This time, before Meng Ran could even reach the elevator at the end of the hall, Agent Hill came towards them with several agents.
"He's already waiting for you inside," Agent Hill said to the group, then led them forward.
Rogers and Natasha exchanged glances. After looking at each other, they followed Hill and Meng Ran deeper inside.
Agent Hill wasn't surprised by Meng Ran's appearance. After all, it was because she had sent Nick Fury the message that the Evil Ghost had been able to locate them.
Meng Ran once again entered the elevator with its flashy controls. After descending for a few seconds, they arrived in the underground space.
The elevator doors opened again, and the group followed Agent Hill out. The orange lights overhead provided the only source of illumination in the underground space.
After making several turns, Meng Ran and the others entered a room and arrived in front of a hospital bed.
It hadn't even been a day since Meng Ran had last been here, and Nick Fury's condition remained the same.
He was lying in bed at the moment, watching Rogers and Natasha walk in. He greeted them in a voice that was a little hoarse: "Captain, Agent Romanoff, I'm glad to see you're both alright."
"I thought you were dead," Rogers said, looking at Nick Fury on the bed.
"We watched those doctors operate on you, cut you open," Natasha said, frowning as well.
"Sorry, but I had to do it. I used a little bit of fugu toxin to make it look like I was dead."
"Why did you keep it so secret, even from us?" Rogers sighed, sitting wearily on the chair beside him. A series of chases and escapes had left him both physically and mentally exhausted.
Hearing Rogers' question, Agent Hill answered for Nick Fury: "Actually, it wasn't intentional to hide it from you. It was just to make people think that the Director was really murdered."
After Agent Hill finished speaking, Nick Fury added: "After all, there's no way to kill someone who's already dead."
"And, after something like this happened, I didn't know who to trust."
