The bell rang, signaling the start of class, just as Meng Ran arrived.
Seeing an empty seat in the back row, he sat down.
"Hmm, this is a good spot. Back row, by the window, quiet, and with a view. Not bad, not bad at all." Meng Ran was quite pleased with his choice.
At this time, the students in the class had also taken their seats, and the teacher walked up to the podium.
Meng Ran was looking out the window when he suddenly heard someone call his name. Turning around, he realized the teacher wanted him to introduce himself.
So he walked to the podium and gave a brief introduction.
While on stage, Meng Ran saw Peter Parker sitting in front of him, and the blonde beauty he had met earlier was to his right.
She was looking at him with interest as he introduced himself.
After the introductions, Meng Ran walked off the stage, and the teacher began the lecture.
As soon as he sat down, Peter, in the seat in front of him, turned around and said shyly, "Hey, Meng, thanks for blocking the punch for me and catching my camera. I really, really appreciate it."
"No problem, buddy. You were pretty brave yourself. If I were a girl, I'd be in love with you," Meng Ran said with a laugh.
"Haha, if only there were a girl like that," Peter said humorously.
Meng Ran and Peter hit it off, even making plans to do homework together sometime.
After chatting for a while, Peter started listening attentively to the lecture, while Meng Ran idly gazed at the scenery. He had already learned the material the teacher was covering, so he was a bit bored.
Good thing I have a window seat, I can look at the scenery, otherwise my nails would be chewed to bits again, Meng Ran thought.
"Aren't you listening to the lecture?" Meng Ran, who was looking at the scenery, suddenly heard someone ask him. He turned around and saw the blonde beauty.
"My name is Gwen Stacy. You can call me Gwen," the little blonde beauty continued.
Meng Ran was thinking, So her name is Gwen, while smiling and replying, "Hello, Gwen."
"I just happened to be studying this part, so I was a little bored and spacing out."
"So that's how it is. I thought you might have something you didn't understand, and I was thinking I might be able to help you," Gwen realized.
Looking into Gwen's clear blue eyes, Meng Ran even felt like he could see his reflection in them.
His heartstrings were also strongly tugged by this gentle and lovely girl.
But no matter how much his heart was racing, Meng Ran kept a calm expression as he chatted with Gwen.
"Flash is the mainstay of the School Team. Do you think you can handle him, Meng?" As if remembering the earlier conflict between Meng Ran and Flash Thompson, Gwen asked with some concern.
"Flash is so annoying, always picking on other students."
Before Meng Ran could even answer, Gwen started complaining about the bully Flash.
Looking at Gwen's angry face, Meng Ran couldn't help but smile. "Don't worry, since I accepted his challenge, I'm confident. I'll teach him how to respect others." As he said this, Meng Ran winked at Gwen.
Gwen, seeing Meng Ran so confident, felt a little less worried.
Meng Ran's confidence wasn't unfounded, of course. He had gained some points a few nights ago during his efforts to fight crime.
He had spent a hundred points to raise his fighting skills to the intermediate level, leaving him with fifty for later. It was perfect timing, now.
Meng Ran spent twenty points to purchase a Basketball Skills (basic). Though it was only basic, it was more than enough.
Combined with his superhuman physical abilities, not only could he beat Flash, but he could even go play in the NBA.
Just as Meng Ran was having a friendly chat with Gwen, Peter was also drawn to the red-haired girl next to him.
"She's the girl who was just with Gwen," Peter thought, his gaze constantly drifting towards her.
Perhaps sensing Peter's attention, the girl turned her head and looked at him.
"Is there something on my face?" the girl asked, a smile playing on her lips.
Peter hadn't expected her to turn around so suddenly. Their eyes met, and awkwardness filled the air. Peter felt like a monkey stripped bare.
"Oh, no. I… I just feel like I've seen you somewhere before," Peter stammered, flustered.
At the same time, he was cursing himself internally: "Oh my god, what am I saying? Even Uncle Ben wouldn't say something so cliché. How could I be so stupid, ugh!"
Seeing Peter's reaction, the girl couldn't help but laugh. "Mr. Parker, that line is a bit old-fashioned, you know~"
"But it worked, I'm Mary Jane, nice to meet you~"
Hearing Mary Jane's teasing, Peter was a little embarrassed, but it seemed she wasn't too averse.
Thinking of this, Peter relaxed and began to steadily unleash his humor, slowly increasing Mary Jane's favorability towards him.
Sitting behind them, Meng Ran saw Peter's pleased expression and thought to himself, "Peter is actually quite humorous when he's on a roll, though he's still a bit behind me."
Meng Ran shamelessly praised himself again in his mind.
Ring, ring, ring!
With the ringing of the bell, today's classes were over. Everyone headed outside, going their separate ways.
Meng Ran also stood up and walked towards the basketball court with Peter.
Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane also walked with Meng Ran and Peter.
There were also many people walking towards the court, presumably because they had heard about the one-on-one game and wanted to watch. They walked together in groups of twos and threes, discussing it amongst themselves.
"I wonder who it is, daring to challenge Flash. He's a key player on the School Team. The challenger is really underestimating themselves," one person said to his friend as they walked along.
"I heard that person knows Kung Fu and is also really strong. Maybe they can win against Flash." His companion replied.
"What use is strength? It's not a weightlifting competition. You can't win at basketball with just brute force," another companion chimed in.
"That's true," the several boys said as they walked away.
Meng Ran and his group were also walking nearby, and they heard the boys' conversation clearly.
Meng Ran didn't think much of it. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. When he beat Flash in a moment, they would naturally know how foolish their thoughts were.
But Peter and the others' expressions weren't as relaxed as before. After all, they knew Flash a little, but they didn't know much about Meng Ran.
No one wanted Flash to win, but they inevitably felt a little worried for Meng Ran.
Seeing how relaxed Meng Ran was, they didn't want to discourage him. So, they kept their mouths shut, hoping he could actually beat Flash.
