Chapter 75: The Return of the Skywing Clan
Kurtz stared at the smoking crater where the Dwarf Kingdom once stood, his hand trembling on the holy sword's hilt. He understood now.
"So that's it," he whispered. "First, the demons destroy the Dwarf Kingdom, then the Skywing Clan erases the evidence, and now they'll attack the elves."
The Elf Clan was powerful, thriving in both their ancestral Elf Forest and their war-dedicated Elf Kingdom. With superior magical talent, they would likely replace the Skywing race entirely once flight magic was invented.
But Kurtz knew better; in the future, elves would virtually disappear from the continent.
He understood the false god's plan now.
Serie grabbed his arm. "What are you talking about?"
Kurtz took a breath and met her eyes; he could see worry in her eyes, though she tried to hide it. "Serie, we need to return to the Elf Forest."
"Is the Elf Forest facing disaster?"
"Think about it." Kurtz couldn't reveal his knowledge of the future, but he could guide her logic. "Why did the monster army target the Elf Forest first? Why did the Skywing Clan abandon the battlefield at such a critical moment?"
Serie's eyes slowly widened as understanding hit. The Skywing Clan's actions required the goddess's command; they would never use God Strike otherwise. Once used, it left them weak and vulnerable for an extended period.
But did they know their goddess was false?
Without the Skywing army, could the remaining dwarven and elven forces withstand the monster assault?
Despite her stubborn claims about never returning, the Elf Forest remained Serie's homeland. She couldn't watch it become another smoking crater like the Dwarf Ancestral Land.
"But what can we do?" Norn asked. "In a racial war, individual power means nothing."
Kurtz looked down at Orger, the Sword of Divine Authority, and remained silent. He had no idea how to unleash the legendary God-Slaying blade's full power. If Orger hadn't protected them during the God Strike, they would all be dead.
The holy sword trembled in his grip, and power began to flow. Magic emanated from the blade in visible waves.
"Orger's magic power?" Serie felt her depleted reserves refilling.
"No, the holy relic's power."
As a dwarven holy sword, Orger stored vast amounts of magic power, far exceeding normal limits. Kurtz felt the blade pulse in rhythm with his heartbeat. The Holy Relic Stone Slab hadn't been a mere pedestal, it was Orger's scabbard. The sword could draw unlimited power from the holy relic.
"So that's it." Kurtz closed his eyes, feeling magic flood his body, then opened them. Blue light flickered in his pupils. "The Divine Authority Sword and the holy relic are one."
Serie watched in amazement as magic materialized around Kurtz in a visible glow, turning his pupils silver-blue. His magical aura exceeded even hers, though it seemed unstable, threatening to dissipate.
"Can you control this power?"
"Not completely," Kurtz gripped the hilt tighter, "but it's enough."
The moment he'd resonated with Orger, knowledge flooded his mind. The sword possessed two authorities: temporary magic enhancement, and the genuine light cannon attack.
The sky suddenly darkened.
Everyone looked up to see the Skywing Clan army returning, pure white wings blocking the sunlight.
Shortly after their departure, the goddess had sent another divine oracle, not just a message, but an entity of pure magic power.
"My dear children, your mission is not complete. Return to the Dwarf Ruins and kill every living creature you see!"
The goddess's figure appeared before them. Though her wings differed slightly from those on the divine kingdom's statue, none of the Skywing Clan questioned her. In their eyes, she was their goddess.
After speaking, the goddess's form dissolved into pure magic power, rapidly restoring what the Skywing Clan had lost using God Strike.
Soon they recovered to peak condition, wings spread wide above the crater, ready to descend.
