Layla's POV:
We are waiting for that stupid beta who is taking his sweet time to come out. My wolf is so agitated and angry that I didn't hear her when she warned me to go look for Moira but I was so stupid and didn't want to defy her leader's order that I had forgotten that she is my best friend.
I should have come to Alpha Zayreen soon and asked him to look for her.
We are not safe in this pack and the proof for that is we saw with our eyes when the pack members' eyes shone with hatred and anger towards us.
" How much time will he take to come out?" I snapped, waiting impatiently. I can't go alone in the woods as it's dark already and I know I won't be safe either.
" He will be here any moment." Alpha Zayreen grumbled, he looked irritated too, waiting for his beta.
" I think we should move forward and let him catch up with us when he seems to come out." We can't wait anymore and get going if we have to find Moira before something bad happened to her.
" Alpha! Sorry for the lateness but I was wrapping up a file I was looking into." I rolled my eyes at his stupid excuse. He knew that Moira was missing and he still came late.
" You seem so hardworking. Great to be you,right!" Every word dripped with sarcasm and he caught up on it. He narrowed his eyes but I just turned my head to the side not giving him anymore attention.
" If you guys are over with your staring contest then we can move ahead. It's already late." Alpha Zayreen growled, I can feel his anger coming out in waves and my wolf wants to submit to him and show my neck in submission.
" Sorry, Alpha. Let's go." His beta muttered, moving his eyes from me.
" Justin, You go and check all over the pack and the fighting grounds. Layla and I will look in the woods." Alpha Zayreen ordered, he was already walking towards the forest and I followed him.
" Does she always disappear when she is upset or angry?" He questioned, Moira has never disappeared in our pack whenever she was upset or angry because she was our leader and queen and she never abandoned her pack even for a second.
" No, Never. Moira was never like that and I'm sure, this time also she didn't disappear out of the blue." i was trying to console myself and my wolf that she really went somewhere to get a quick breath of fresh air as it's a new environment for her and her wolf but it's been more than an hour or two and she is not like that to just disappear for that long and not inform me where she is.
Dread started gnawing my insides and the guilt of not looking for her sooner started consuming like a slow poison.
How the hell I just let it go! I Am sure i will rot in hell if something happens to Moira.
" Let's hope that she is somewhere safe. Being a Rogue, she is not safe alone." Alpha Zayreen gritted out the words and I can sense worry and fear in his voice and his steps are hurried and he is practically running, if I was not with him then he would have sprinted deep into the forest.
" Alpha, I think we should shift into our wolves and search for Moira, that will be the easy and fastest way to find her." I suggested, he stop in his tracks and nodded his head acknowledging my words and I moved behind a tree to shift into my tree, who was restless and worried about her leader.
Once I shifted, everything seemed clear and bright to my Wolf's eyes. I came out from behind the tree and Alpha Zayreen was already shifted and waiting for me.
His majestic wolf stood tall and proud, his black fur shining in the moonlight. His golden eyes are narrowed and is scanning his surroundings and he seems so restless as his legs are positioned ready to bolt.
My wolf bowed to him as the Alpha aura was coming off of him making my wolf submit to his power and he acknowledged my greeting by tipping his head and he turned around and started sprinting into the woods as I followed him behind sniffing into the air and hearing my surroundings.
We ran too deep into the woods and there was no moonlight shining into these thick trees. I sniff the air and there is no smell but mud and trees.
A loud growl snapped me towards the sound and Alpha Zayreen was frantically sniffing and running from side to side. I tried to see and sniff what had him being frantic but even my heightened senses didn't help.
He ran some more into the trees and a faint smell of blood invaded my nose and I let out a growl too. The smell of the blood maye be of any wild animals but the faint scent of Moira lingering around us.
I started praying to the moon goddess that Moira is safe and nothing has happened to her.
What if some evil rogues attacked her! What if she is on the brink of death! I can't let myself think about those things before I see her with my own eyes.
By the time I reach where the scent of death and Moira is overwhelming, Alpha Zayreen has already shifted back into his human form and he is kneeling on the wet ground and he is clutching something.
There is so much darkness around us that I am unable to see clearly. I quickly shifted back too and wore the shirt I was holding in my mouth but Alpha Zayreen is still naked.
I ran towards him and my body froze itself at the scene in front of me. I feel like someone is crushing my heart with their bare hands seeing my best friend and our leader laying in Alpha Zayreen's laps covered in blood and wounds.
I don't know if her chest is moving or not. If she is breathing at all or not. My limbs felt like I had been paralyzed and I couldn't move.
