Chapter 16 - Food and Change

Running through an elegant hallway was a short soldier who stood at about five feet five inches.

His hair was a dark blue that could almost be mistaken for black; on his back he carried a war bow with a quiver full of arrows.

He was running down the hallway of the manor belonging to Viscount Thomson, pushing down slaves and maids alike, not caring about any of them. The only thing that mattered was reporting the incident he just received the news about to the viscount.

Until he eventually reached the vancount's Study

Pushing the pristine gold doors open, he was met with the sight of the viscount sitting at his desk surrounded by mountains of paperwork, completely absorbed by them. So, he waited until he finally heard the viscount's voice after he noticed him.

The viscount stated while not even looking up from his work,

"Lou, I hope you have a good reason to justify why you are not only disturbing my work but why you are even in my home to begin with when I didn't summon you; otherwise, the only thing I can offer you is a painless death."

The soldier dropped to his knees, immediately getting into a deep bow before words finally managed to squeeze themselves out of his mouth.

"I'm deeply sorry for the intrusion, my lord; it's just I needed your orders immediately. My lord, the dungeon snow's wrath at the southern corner of the territory has had some unfortunate news: the slaves my lord bought and delivered to the dungeon have been killed, the artifact that keeps the mana beasts from respawning has been destroyed, and the entire 49th floor is covered in snow and mana beasts again, and we suspect that someone has gone into floor 50 because that is the only explanation."

Slowly putting down his pen, Viscount Thompson finally looked up from his desk at the kneeling soldier, Lou. The look on his face was one of absolute annoyance, like he did not care at all.

"So you're trying to tell me someone broke into one of the empire's most successful blue mana stone mines, killed the guards and slaves but only on floor forty-nine, only to then proceed to go further down the dungeon instead of just taking the supply of mana stones already down there?"

"Is that what your trying to say Lou because to me that makes absolutely no sense, does it make sense to you Lou?"

"N.nnno My lord it doesn't"

"That's what I thought because to do that they would have to sneak past all the guards outside and inside the dungeon, make it all the way to floor forty nine and even if someone could do that what could they possibly want the only valuable thing in that dungeon is the mana stones since it's just E ranked." He said his fat neck giggling as he talked

"Do you think the artifact just malfunctioned my lord"

"That's exactly what I think Lou, so evacuate the dungeon, get all the artifacts checked and buy six new ones to replace the ones on floor forty nine"

"Now get out, and Lou if you ever barge into my studie again I'll let kel give you the proper education ok" he said looking at Lou with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.

"Yes my lord it will never happen again" he said turning to close the door behind him then running off out the manner.

****Back in the dungeon****

Olivia and Azreal were sitting with their backs against a snowy caves walls taking in the warmth form the fire in front of them that Olivia started when suddenly Olivia heard a weird noise

Grrrrrr!!

Turning to look where it came from she found herself staring into Azrael's amber eyes before she started laughing

"Haheee I was wondering how you weren't hungry yet but it turns out it just hadn't caught up with you yet, it only just caught you hasn't it."

"You're one to talk, aren't you hungry as well?"

"I am but not as much as you though judging by that grumble of your stomach a couple seconds ago it sounds like your starving" she said getting up

"I'll be right back with something to eat, while am gone keep in mind the fire isn't food ok Az"

"Whatever"

After a couple minutes away he saw her coming back dragging a spiders corpse behind her

"What the hell liv we can't eat that do you want me to get poisoned"

"Don't worry about it Az I've already removed all the poison"

"Are you sure"

"Yes am sure what you don't trust me or something"

"I do trust you it's just I don't trust you did it right"

"What's that supposed to mean huh?"

"Nothing" he said going to the spiders leg and ripping it off to hold it over the fire until it was cooked all the way through before putting it up to his mouth

"Liv if I die from this ill curse you with my last breath" he said finally taking a bite

"Elll taste bad but it's not deadly so that's all that matters are you not going to have some" he said looking over at Olivia only to see her draining the things blood into her hands and drinking it

"What the hell are you doing"

"What I told you am half vampire so of course I drink blood, I actually get more sustenance from it than regular food"

"Why do you think I looked so skinny before even though I was getting food, and then as soon as we started fighting I got this healthy." She said with a teasing smile on her face all while gesturing to her body specifically her face which had gotten even more thick and defined.

" I don't know I've never really thought of it before, wait does that mean the only reason am here is so you have back up food if you can't find anything else!?"

"Yes that's right that's exactly why I wanted you here so I Drain you to the last drop and then devour you" she said stepping closer to him looking at the horrified look on his face.
